Abstract

Despite the abundance of literature discussing Kuhnian views, it is rare to find studies that comprehensively compare the arguments of Kuhnian supporters and skeptics. This study aims to fill the gap by providing a comparative review and synthesis between the two groups of views using the systematic literature review (SLR) analysis technique. The researcher found 1,413 articles reduced with the standard prism protocol to 32 articles that examined Kuhn's views. Proponents support the existence of Kuhn's scientific paradigm where they not only strengthen and consider the importance of Kuhn's theory, but also expand its application to various fields, showing the flexibility and relevance of the theory in understanding the scientific revolution that occurred in various disciplines. Skeptics criticize Kuhn's views such as the ambiguity of the term "paradigm", the non-recognition of scientific revolutions that lead to scientific evolution, and the doubt of the concept of incommensurability in various disciplines. This shows that Thomas Kuhn made a great contribution to the world of scientific education because it can provoke experts to study his thoughts for the benefit of science. The findings of this study are expected to contribute to policy makers and other researchers in applying and studying Kuhn's paradigm.

Abstract

This study aims to create a Genially based interactive multimedia product to increase interest in learning civics among fifth-grade students. This research and development type uses the analyze, design, develop, implement, and evaluate (ADDIE) model. This study used three samples in the one-to-one stage, six in the small group stage, and 26 in the field test stage. This media produces media quality with a total score percentage of 88%, categorized as very feasible through media expert validation. This product also makes material quality with a total score percentage of 94%, classified as very feasible through content expert validation. The product effectiveness test through the N-Gain test obtained a total score percentage of 1%, which was included in the high category. This study concludes that Genially-based interactive multimedia effectively increases students' interest in civics.

Abstract

This bibliometric article examines the current state of publication in the field of classroom assessment, exploring the productivity and influence of countries, institutions, and authors. A search query of on the Scopus database using the term “classroom assessment” or “classroom-based assessment” or “assessment for learning” was performed retrieving 824 scholarly articles from 1985 to 2023. VOSviewer software was used to create maps based on network data of scientific publications displaying relationships among researchers, countries, and scientific journals. By analyzing citation patterns and keywords, it identifies popular themes among scholars and highlights areas requiring further research under keywords such as "assessment for learning", "feedback", and "validity". The study provides valuable insights into the evolving landscape of classroom assessment research, offering a comprehensive overview of the key contributors and trends shaping the field. Author keywords were used to explore the co-occurrence of different terms connected to classroom assessment. This study's findings provide a comprehensive comprehension of the current state of classroom assessment research, making a substantial contribution to the education and assessment literature and paving the way for future research directions.

Abstract

The study aimed at exploring, confirming, and validating the factor structure of sibling attachment inventory (SAI) within the Indian cultural context. The hypothesis posits that SAI will show reliable sibling attachment measures, evaluating its psychometric properties with 250 students enrolled in Class XI within govt and private schools, selected through stratified random sampling across 10 districts of Delhi. The research unfolded in three phases: i) data collection utilizing original 25-item SAI; ii) data purification and analysis using SPSS version 23.0; and iii) verification of the factor structure through factor analysis employing principal component analysis (PCA) with varimax rotation and confirming the factor structure using AMOS. The results revealed inclusion of 23 items across three factors viz. trust, communication, and alienation, with high reliability coefficients (α) of 0.954, 0.786, and 0.621 respectively. Preliminary analysis demonstrated commendable internal consistency. This study highlights the importance of considering sibling relationships in understanding adolescent well-being, thereby addressing existing research gaps by focusing on sibling relationships among adolescents, an area often overlooked in favor of parental and peer dynamics. Thus, SAI can support the assessment of sibling-adolescent attachment, thereby helping to enhance intervention, and expanding attachment research scope beyond traditional family dynamics.

Abstract

The objective of this study was to create and develop an employability model, and the factors that influence be investigated in a proper environment. These students are working at STIE SBI Yogyakarta to determine the adequacy of the model's shape in considering the field-occurring factors. The population of this study was all active students at STIE SBI in Yogyakarta who are currently working. The sample in this study was 101 working STIE SBI students. The technique of sampling in this research used accidental sampling. The data collection instrument used a scale of employability, scale resilience, and the peer social support scale. Data analysis techniques in this study were carried out quantitatively. The analytical method used equation modeling partial least squares path modeling (SEM-PLS) 4.0 through testing the outer and inner models. This study's results were the formation of resilience and peer support models on the employability of working students who appropriate with empirical data. There is a positive and very significant effect of resilience on the employability of working students. The theoretical model formed in this study was an appropriate model that can be used as a valid model reference in developing employability variables.

Abstract

Understanding the factors influencing elementary school students' internet skills is critical in the rapidly evolving digital age. The research was conducted on the influence of gender, parental occupation, and school status on internet self-efficacy, interdependence, internet attitudes, and internet skills. Using logistic regression analysis, it was found that the male gender significantly affected internet self-efficacy and interdependence items with a value of p0.05; the largest finding on internet self-efficacy items showed a 3.846 times greater chance of helping others via the internet compared to females. Parents who work as non-government employees have a significant effect p05 on internet self-efficacy, interdependence, internet attitude, and internet skills items. The largest finding on internet skills is mainly increasing the ability to install applications in children, with 5.653 times greater odds than children from entrepreneurs. Students from private schools have the greatest chance of 3.840 times greater in developing internet skills information skills compared to public school students; significance (p0.05) was found in internet self-efficacy, interdependence, and internet skills items. The findings offer important insights for developing educational policies to improve primary school students' digital literacy, considering gender, parental occupation, and school status.

Abstract

This discussion explored the integration of creative thinking pedagogy and the anthropological theory of didactics in university-level algebra education, emphasizing the importance of understanding the perspectives of both learners and teachers. The work began by highlighting the necessity of considering these viewpoints to create effective and responsive educational experiences. We then focused on designing classroom sessions for algebra, blending creative thinking with cultural and historical contexts. These sessions included applying creative approaches to group theory, exploring algebraic topology through innovative means, and understanding ring theory in practical scenarios like cryptography. Feedback from both learners and teachers was generally positive, with students appreciating the engaging and practical aspects and teachers recognizing the benefits of creative pedagogies. However, challenges in implementation, such as resource constraints and the need for professional development, were also identified. Suggestions for improvement included deeper content exploration, enhanced use of technology, and better alignment of creative teaching methods with assessment strategies.

Abstract

Through qualitative study and semi-structured interviews, the researchers explored the learning experiences of Kalanguyan teachers when schools were locked-down during the COVID-19 pandemic in Malico Elementary School, San Nicolas, Pangasinan Philippines. The results revealed the learning gaps, experiences, sacrifices, and challenges encountered by the pupils and teachers. Utilizing Colaizzi’s method, the themes generated from the interviews conducted were presented to the participants and field experts to confirm their validity and authenticity. The themes generated were the Knowledge gap in science, social science, numeracy, and reading, after-work teaching sacrifices outside the classroom, language being ‘fluid’ for kindergarten and grade school pupils, the ability of pupils being compromised during the pandemic, module no hero, no Kalanguyan is left behind, guidance from parents-plus and minus-is a source of active-passive support, uniting learning and culture through curriculum and programs, yes is the key to the workplace on and off pandemic, and assessing technology for Kalanguyans using culture as lens. The study also conducted strengths, weakness, opportunities, and threat (SWOT) analysis. The findings will serve as basis for extension activities which will be headed by Pangasinan State University and collaboration of Department of Education (DepEd) and stakeholders that encompasses range of activities aimed at supporting the community’s educational needs.

Abstract

Students’ creativity is a fundamental goal in education. The school has a strategic role in developing students’ creativity. This study elaborates on classroom activities to develop students’ creativity. The study used a mixed-method sequential explanatory design. Quantitative data were obtained from six hundred and one students from junior and senior high schools in East Java, Indonesia. Qualitative data were obtained from nine teachers. Descriptive and regression analysis techniques are used to analyse quantitative data, while thematic analysis is used to analyse qualitative data. The results show that the hypothesis is accepted. It means that classroom climate affects students’ creativity. The findings also showed three classroom activities for developing students’ creativity: rule, positive teaching and teacher support. Teachers’ ability to manage learning in the classroom affects the high level of students’ creativity.

Abstract

The significance of flexibility in mathematics classrooms, particularly in interactive mathematics classrooms where students learn through hands-on experience, cannot be overstated. Teachers play a pivotal role in fostering students’ mathematical understanding by selecting appropriate tasks and providing expert guidance. Additionally, the patterns of interactions between teachers and students, such as elicitation and discussion patterns, and their relationship with teacher flexibility are examined. Developing adaptive expertise in mathematics involves the ability to think flexibly about mathematical concepts, which can be enhanced by teaching math in a way that promotes the development of expertise. Mathematical flexibility, a crucial aspect of mathematical competence, involves the creative and innovative use of mathematical concepts, numerical relations, and strategies. It requires a combination of procedural and conceptual knowledge, skills, and understanding, as well as motivational and affective dispositions. Pedagogical flexibility can significantly contribute to innovating classroom teaching and learning, and exploring the relationships between teachers’ pedagogical flexibility and students’ potential and actual mathematical flexibility development. The article also emphasizes the importance of developing adaptive competencies in mathematics education to prepare students for an uncertain future, with creativity being considered a key competency and flexibility being viewed as a vital element of creativity.
