Abstract

This study is rooted in the issue of poverty, which has the potential to incite conflicts. In response to this, the research aims to explore social entrepreneurship as a tool for community empowerment to alleviate poverty and prevent conflicts. The research adopts a qualitative approach with a phenomenological design. The participants include village heads, leaders of cooperatives, tourism awareness groups, ecotourism managers, youth organization members, representatives of the village consultative body, cooperative administrators, managers of village-owned enterprises, neighborhood leaders, and village heads. These participants were selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected via semi-structured interviews, and the data analysis employed thematic analysis, with member checking used to ensure validity. The findings indicate that social entrepreneurship through ecotourism business units, underpinned by an ecological framework, has been successful in fostering contributions from individuals, microsystems, organizations, local communities, and the macrosystem. This approach to empowerment has proven effective in reducing poverty and preventing conflicts.

Abstract

The prevalence of sexual violence has been rising, particularly with the increasing reports of online sexual abuse. This study aims to examine the experiences of victims subjected to online sexual grooming, a form of sexual violence occurring in digital spaces. The research focuses on the manipulative tactics employed by perpetrators to exploit their victims. Using a qualitative approach and a phenomenological study design, the research involved two participants who had been victims of online sexual grooming by unknown perpetrators, with no prior face-to-face contact. Data were collected through interviews, and analysis followed the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. Findings reveal that prior to the grooming process, participants encountered the perpetrators via social media and engaged in frequent conversations. Throughout the grooming process, perpetrators employed various manipulative techniques such as conversational manipulation, sustained contact, secrecy, sexualization, compliments, erratic moods, and other grooming behaviors. The emotional impact of online sexual grooming on the victims included both positive and negative feelings, with the latter predominating during the grooming experience.

Abstract

In 2023, Indonesia reported approximately 7.86 million unemployed individuals, with a notably low employment absorption rate among university graduates. One contributing factor to this issue is the insufficient level of job readiness among graduates, which hinders their ability to secure employment. This study aims to examine the extent to which work motivation and social support predict job readiness among final-year students at Ahmad Dahlan University. The research involved 100 participants selected through purposive sampling, a form of non-probability sampling. A quantitative research approach was employed, utilizing validated scales to measure job readiness, work motivation, and social support. Content validity was established through expert judgment. Data were analyzed using multiple linear regression via SPSS version 16.0. The findings indicate that work motivation and social support collectively predict job readiness. However, while work motivation significantly contributes to job readiness, social support does not show a statistically significant effect. These results underscore the crucial role of internal factors particularly individual motivation in enhancing the job readiness of final-year students as they transition into the workforce, particularly within the context of the Indonesian labor market.

Abstract

In the face of increasingly complex challenges in modern life, there is a pressing need to integrate Islamic wisdom (hikmah) with the principles of positive psychology to achieve holistic well-being. Wisdom, as the capacity to comprehend and apply knowledge meaningfully, is deeply rooted in Islamic teachings. Concurrently, positive psychology emphasizes the cultivation of individual strengths and potential to promote psychological flourishing. This study aims to explore the intersections between hikmah as derived from the Qur’an and Hadith and the foundational tenets of positive psychology in promoting mental health, resilience, and life satisfaction as components of holistic well-being. A qualitative literature review was conducted using a meta-ethnographic synthesis approach. This method facilitates the integration of findings from multiple qualitative studies to generate new theoretical insights into a specific phenomenon. It is particularly suitable for research that investigates subjective experiences, perceptions, and behaviors in depth, with the potential to inform both theoretical development and practical applications. The literature search was conducted through major academic databases, including Google Scholar, SpringerLink, PubMed, and Cambridge University Press. Search terms included “wisdom,” “Islam,” “positive psychology,” and “well-being.” Inclusion criteria encompassed peer-reviewed articles published between 2020 and 2024 in either English or Indonesian. A total of eight relevant articles were selected for synthesis. The findings highlight a strong association between religiosity and social support with wisdom. Wisdom, in turn, exerts a positive influence on psychological well-being. Furthermore, religiosity and social support contribute indirectly to psychological well-being through the mediating role of wisdom. Positive psychology interventions were found to enhance wisdom, resilience, and cognitive flexibility. Additionally, spiritual and health-promoting behaviors were positively correlated with psychological well-being, with health-related behaviors serving as mediators. Wisdom was identified as a significant predictor of subjective well-being, particularly in later life stages. While spirituality supports mental health, its contribution to wisdom appears to be less pronounced compared to prosocial behavior and self-regulation. Interventions rooted in Islamic values have shown potential in improving psychological well-being, and multicomponent positive psychology programs have demonstrated efficacy in both enhancing well-being and alleviating depressive symptoms. Overall, wisdom and religiosity are positively associated with subjective well-being, with mastery and life purpose serving as mediating variables.

Abstract

This study investigates the extent to which Islamic creed (ʿAqīdah) and social skills are associated with students’ emotional well-being. Utilizing a quantitative correlational design, the study involved 197 students aged 15–19 years from a state-funded Islamic secondary school. Participants were selected through cluster random sampling. Three validated instruments were employed: the Emotional Well-Being Scale based on Keyes’ conceptual framework (α = 0.803), the Islamic Creed Scale adapted from Al-Banna’s model (α = 0.893), and the RECS Social Skills Scale developed by Mantzouranis et al. (α = 0.896). Data were analyzed using multiple linear regression. The results revealed that Islamic creed and social skills jointly demonstrated a significant positive relationship with emotional well-being (p = 0.006). Further analysis showed that Islamic creed independently had a significant positive association with emotional well-being (p = 0.005), whereas social skills did not show a statistically significant effect (p = 0.142). These findings highlight the central role of religious belief in supporting adolescents' emotional well-being within faith-based educational contexts.

Abstract

Many university students encounter academic challenges that may lead to elevated levels of stress and anxiety, potentially indicating low psychological well-being. This study aims to examine the relationship between gratitude and social support with psychological well-being among university students. A total of 120 participants were selected using a cluster random sampling technique. The study employed a correlational quantitative research design, utilizing three standardized instruments: the Gratitude Scale, the Social Support Scale, and the Psychological Well-Being Scale. Data were analyzed using multiple linear regression with SPSS version 27.0. The primary hypothesis testing revealed a significant correlation, with a coefficient of determination R = 0.795 and p = 0.000 (p < 0.01), indicating a strong and statistically significant relationship between gratitude, social support, and psychological well-being. For the first sub-hypothesis, the partial correlation coefficient was 0.327 with a significance level of p = 0.000 (p < 0.01) and a beta value of 0.380, suggesting a significant positive relationship between gratitude and psychological well-being. The second sub-hypothesis showed a partial correlation coefficient of 0.380, a significance level of p = 0.000 (p < 0.01), and a beta value of 0.451, indicating a significant positive relationship between social support and psychological well-being. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that gratitude and social support collectively contribute to 63.2% of the variance in psychological well-being. These results underscore the importance of fostering gratitude and enhancing social support among university students to promote greater psychological well-being.

Abstract

Sexual violence perpetrated by authority figures such as teachers, lecturers, religious leaders, medical professionals, and law enforcement officers constitutes a severe violation of human rights with profound psychological consequences, particularly for women and children. This study employs a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) methodology to analyze 11 national and international journal articles published between 2020 and 2024. The aim of this review is to explore the dynamics of power relations, the psychological impact on survivors, barriers to recovery, and intervention strategies. Findings reveal that unequal power relations between perpetrators and victims significantly contribute to the occurrence of sexual violence and hinder the recovery process. Survivors frequently experience severe psychological symptoms, including post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, dissociation, and developmental disturbances especially in children. Recovery barriers include societal stigma, limited legal support, and the normalization of the perpetrator's authority. Effective recovery strategies identified include Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), emotional support from family, and community-based approaches. This study highlights the urgent need for integrated, trauma-informed interventions and the strengthening of legal protection systems to break the cycle of sexual violence perpetrated by authority figures.

Abstract

Subjective well-being is a crucial indicator of an individual's quality of life, particularly during middle adulthood a developmental stage marked by increased vulnerability to psychological stress due to life transitions. This study aims to examine the effect of social support on subjective well-being among middle-aged adults, employing a mediation model in which self-esteem functions as the mediating variable. Utilizing a quantitative approach with path analysis, data were collected from 384 middle-aged individuals aged 40–60 years residing in DKI Jakarta, selected through purposive sampling. The findings reveal that social support has a significant impact on subjective well-being, both directly and indirectly through the mediation of self-esteem. These results underscore the critical role of self-esteem in mediating the relationship between social support and subjective well-being during middle adulthood.

Abstract

Family caregivers are particularly vulnerable to psychological distress due to the cumulative burden of caregiving responsibilities and the challenges of balancing their own personal needs. Mindfulness-based approaches have been widely recognized as promising strategies for alleviating psychological distress. This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of a Brief Mindfulness Intervention (BMI) in reducing psychological distress among family caregivers of breast cancer patients. A quasi-experimental design was employed, and purposive sampling was used to recruit 30 family caregivers (15 in the intervention group and 15 in the control group). The intervention consisted of a single 90-minute session, and psychological distress was assessed using the DASS-21. The findings indicated significant reductions in depressive symptoms, anxiety, and stress following the BMI (depression: p = 0.002; anxiety: p = 0.000; stress: p = 0.000). Cohen’s d effect size demonstrated that BMI produced substantial effects, particularly on anxiety and stress (depression: d = 0.43338; anxiety: d = 1.6170; stress: d = 1.1240). These results suggest that BMI may serve as a feasible and preliminary coping strategy for mitigating psychological distress among family caregivers facing emotionally demanding caregiving situations.
