Abstract

In the Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity, and Ambiguity (VUCA) era, organization in complex businesses and competitive environments with unprecedented challenges and opportunities. In this context, the development of innovation is required to survive throughwork behavior. Therefore, this research aimed to explore the influence of transformationalleadership on work behavior of employees, considering meaningful work as a mediating variable. The moderating role of ambidextrous organizational culture is also tested on ASN (civil servant) at the Indonesia Ministry of X (N = 210) using the self-report data collection method. The data were analyzed using the PROCESS Model 15 statistical method developed by Hayes. The result showed that meaningful work mediated the relationship between transformational leadership and innovative work behavior (B = .50, CI 95% [.15, .42]). Moreover, ambidextrous organizational culture played a significant role as a moderator of the direct relationship between the variables (B = .3449, p < .05), but does not play a role in the indirect relationship (B = -.1292, p > .05). Practical and innovative contributions were also provided to practitioners of industrial and organizational psychology, as well as ASN in exploring innovative work behavior.

Abstract

Adolescence is a transitional period from childhood to adulthood. The global adolescent population currently exceeds 1.2 billion, making up 16% of the world’s population. Adverse childhood experiences in adolescents contribute significantly to mental health issues and also have an impact on adult lives. These experiences can be influenced by various factors including demographic background. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the differences in adverse childhood experiences with demographic background in adolescents in Indonesia. A comparative quantitative method with subjects aged 12-21 was adopted in this study. Furthermore, the instrument used was the World Health Organization Adverse Childhood Experiences Questionnaire (WHO ACE-IQ) which was further analyzed using the Jamovi 2.3.21 program. The results showed that 65.3% of the subjects experienced multiple adversities dominated by adolescent girls. Additionally, the dimension of adverse childhood experiences was the highest in emotional neglect. Other results showed that there was a significant role of demographic background including age with the highest prevalence in late adolescence (18-21 years) and parental marital status with the largest group of divorce in adverse childhood experiences. Future studies were further expected to examine and conduct publications with an equal number of subjects in each province throughout Indonesia to calculate prevalence more accurately and explore the relationship betweendemographic background and adverse childhood experiences. In this context, the study provided implications for adolescents to possess an overview of adverse childhood experiences.

Abstract

Internet can be dangerous since it has become a new medium for sexual crimes against children and adolescents. This study aimed to investigate online child sexual exploitation and abuse (OCSEA) of children and adolescents. It also identified the vulnerability factors contributing to OCSEA and explored the measures to prevent and address this challenge. In this study, a systematic literature review method was used, along with the formation of PICO, language terminology, inclusion and exclusion criteria, and data collection through PRISMA. The literature review showed that OCSEA vulnerability factors included young age, perception, communication, economy, accessibility, emotional stability, population, gender, parental supervision, and children’s internet knowledge. Even though there were relevant policies, the process of handling vulnerability was still at the stage of developing framework, necessitating new and comprehensive laws to address OCSEA more explicitly. Therefore, the limited prevalence data and evidence on OCSEA prompted this study to conduct a literature review to better understand the concept, development, and context.

Abstract

In the past decade, artificial intelligence (AI) literacy has become a primary focus in digital literacy education research. However, the use of AI in early childhood education remains largely unexplored, prompting experts to conduct a scoping review. This scoping review aimed to explore various forms of AI application in early childhood education, and to identify commonly used methods in this topic. The database searches for scientific articles covered the period between 2016 to 2023. Inclusion and exclusion criteria were established, focusing on reviews related to AI literacy and early childhood education. Electronic databases such as Scopus, EBSCO Sciences, Emerald, Sinta, and Science Direct were used from December 2023 to February 2024. From the total of 260 articles selected for this analysis, only 10 met the inclusion criteria and were reviewed. The results showed that most articles used learning media tailored to children’s developmental stages to enhance literacy. These included smart toys integrating AI technology, particularly speech synthesis, virtual reality, robots, KIERO, and chatbots. Qualitative methods were commonly adopted, although some research used experimental methods and literature reviews. In summary, the integration of AI literacy in early childhood education contributed significantly to the development of active learning interventions for children.

Abstract

Parent emotion socialization (PES), a response used when reacting to the emotional expression of children, is classified into supportive and non-supportive categories and varies at each stage of development. In this context, emotion, which is measured based on a strong theoretical foundation, plays an important role in children and adolescent development in terms of social functioning, academic achievement, and the development of psychopathology. The status as a single domain of study depends on each theoretical perspective applied. Based on prediction, the types of related variables also vary depending on each theoretical perspective. Therefore, this study aimed to fill the gap of reviews on the types of emotion variables. The association between the dynamics of emotion variables and PES was determined by analyzing 15 international journals. The results showed that emotion regulation was the variable most associated with PES in children and adolescents, serving as a moderator or vice versa. Other variables included self-conscious emotion, social and emotional adjustment, expression of emotion, negative emotionality/lability, and emotion processing. In conclusion, practitioners were provided with considerations regarding the measurement, study, and development of PES topics and various emotion variables.

Abstract

Self-perceived employability (SPE) is important for students entering the workforce in the digital era. This study aimed to explore the correlation between online social support (OSS), social media user types (SMUT), and SPE with career adaptability (CAD) serving as a mediator. It also examined the relationship of several covariates such as work experience, international exposure, and organizational experience. A total of 360 students comprising males (19.4%) and females (80.6%) participated voluntarily in this study. The data was further collected using a Likert scale measuring OSS ( = .88), SPE ( = .85), and CAD ( = .86) with eight items for all variables. Furthermore, a five item statement was used to assess SMUT where respondents selected the item most appropriate to the condition. The results of Structural Equation Model (SEM) testing carried out using RStudio with the Lavaan package version 0.6-18 showed that OSS played an important role in improving SPE both directly and through CAD. Although SMUT did not significantly affect SPE through CAD, it suggested a broader impact when considering the total effect. This study further emphasized the importance of fostering OSS to increase career adaptability and eventually improve SPE. Additionally, the results contributed to the literature by providing empirical evidence regarding the factors influencing students’ SPE. Practically, this study could support career development programs focused on student character.

Abstract

The integration of online learning greatly affects final-year students who are working on their thesis. One common challenge they face is academic procrastination. This quantitative study aimed to examine the relationship between self-control, time management, and authoritarian parenting on students’ academic procrastination. A total of 350 final-year students from the Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta were selected as participants through a convenience sampling method. Data was collected using scales for academic procrastination, self-control, time management, and authoritarian parenting. Data was analyzed using multiple regression, resulting in an F-value of 94.506 and a p-value of .000. The results showed that selfcontrol, time management, and authoritarian parenting were significantly correlated with academic procrastination. The beta coefficients for self-control and academic procrastination, as well as time management and academic procrastination, were negative, with values of -.286 and -.261, respectively. This indicated that high self-control and time management could reduce academic procrastination. Moreover, authoritarian parenting showed a significant value of .069, suggesting that students getting exposed to higher levels of such parenting style were more likely to engage in academic procrastination. The effective contribution of self-control, time management, and authoritarian parenting to academic procrastination was found to be 45%. Thus, improving self-control could be an effective strategy for reducing academic procrastination.

Abstract

The elderly population in Indonesia and childcare are associated with subjective wellbeing (SWB) of grandparents. On the other hand, achieving SWB is important for living a mentally healthy life. Therefore, this research aimed to predict grandparents SWB through social support, physical health, and self-esteem. A quantitative correlational method was used with 350 respondents aged 45-75 years obtained by simple random sampling technique. Data collection used four instruments, including the SWB, social support, health status, and self-esteem scale, while data analysis was performed with path analysis. The results showed that social support, health, and self-esteem affected grandparents SWB directly and indirectly. The indirect path of self-esteem as a mediator contributed more than the direct path of social support and health status. The implication of this research is to improve grandparents SWB by strengthening intergenerational relationships as a form of providing meaningful social support. This offers opportunities for grandparents to contribute to the family and community, participate in various social activities, and easily access health facilities.

Abstract

Over the past decade, the Basic Empathy Scale (BES) has become a standard tool for measuring empathy. Despite the reliability and cross-cultural applicability, challenges remain regarding the validity and generalizability. This study aimed to validate the BES using Rasch model to establish the reliability and validity of the instrument in measuring empathy. Participants in validation consisted of 200 students from Islamic Boarding Schools (Pesantren) in Java, Indonesia. This analysis was conducted using a quantitative method with Rasch model analysis by incorporating a Wright map, item fit analysis, a unidimensionality test, and Different Item Functioning (DIF). The results showed that the BES was reliable for measuring cognitive and affective empathy, confirming unidimensionality and item fit among participants. These findings implied that the BES was suitable for application among Islamic Boarding School students. DIF analysis further showed that some items might require revision to elicit more accurate results even though the instrument was considered valid and reliable.

Abstract

Work problems for millennial employees are increasingly complex and the values accepted by the generation tend to conflict with organizational citizenship behavior (OCB). Therefore, this research aimed to create and evaluate a theoretical framework that elucidated the impact of organizational climate on the OCB of millennial workers, with work-life balance as a moderator. A total of 384 millennial employees were obtained using purposive quota sampling. The data obtained were related to organizational climate, OCB, and work-life balance. Additionally, a quantitative method was adopted using data analysis through a structural equation model (SEM) and partial least squares path modeling (PLS-SEM). The results showed that the proposed model concerning the influence of organizational climate on citizenship behavior, with work-life balance serving as a moderating variable was consistent with empirical evidence. Organizational climate and work-life balance had a positive and highly significant impact on citizenship behavior. Furthermore, work-life balance effectively moderated the relationship between organizational climate and citizenship behavior of millennial employees. The implications of this research suggested that the model served as a valuable reference and could be implemented to address the challenges associated with OCB.
