Abstract

This research aims to determine the picture of premarital counseling practices in Indonesia, which have developed over the past five years (2019-2023) as a trend. The research design uses a literature review because the researcher wants to review several articles published in scientific journals. The research instrument uses content analysis guidelines containing four main aspects: counseling model, type of counselee, counseling strategy, and counseling results. The researcher analyzed data by selecting several articles published in scientific journals using inclusion and exclusion criteria. After the researcher collected the articles, the quality of the articles, which contained four main aspects, was assessed and synthesized. An overview of premarital counseling practices in Indonesia shows that they use more group counseling models than individual counseling models. The counselees who take part in premarital counseling are more prospective brides and grooms than students, developmentally most of whom are in early adulthood with an age range of 18-40 years. The counseling strategy used is providing information. Therefore, this program can be called educational counseling. The results of premarital counseling have more influence on increasing the counselee’s knowledge, and this increase in knowledge has implications for the counselee’s readiness to face marriage.

Abstract

Social media addiction deeply affects students academically and psychologically. Most studies, especially in the Indonesian context, focused on social media addiction; some studies focused on the healing process, especially in the educational context. This study focused on the impacts of social media addiction counseling intervention on SMA Negeri 5 Magelang students. The researcher used a quasi-experimental design while adopting 2 of the four experimental groups configured using different techniques, each consisting of 7 students. The first of these groups used a behavior contract approach and the second used a self-management approach. The researcher adopted the Social Media Addiction Scale. The described data was analyzed and interpreted using paired and independent sample t-tests alongside effect size determination. The findings indicated that the counseling objectives were achieved by both groups, albeit with contrasting outcomes, particularly with the contract group averaging 20.29, and self-management group 9.29, statistically significant. The contract group achieved the most positive change of 2.535, however both groups showed statistically significant and differential positive results due to the techniques applied. The contract technique was statistically proven to be more effective than self-management. The role of behavior contract–integrated group counseling activities to build students' discipline, self-control, and responsible behavior on and off social media is invaluable. Counsellors are encouraged to use behavior contracts as a proactive approach to addressing social media overuse. Future research should prioritize larger sample sizes, consider potential moderating variables, and examine the long-term effects of such interventions through a longitudinal approach

Abstract

Adolescents are among the risk groups for mental health problems. The prevalence of these issues is rising annually. Delivering psychoeducation on mental health literacy, which addresses the ability to recognize mental health problems, as well as the referral mechanism for themselves and others when they have mental health problems, constitutes a way to prevent adolescents’ mental health problems. The purpose of this study is to use expert’s opinions to assess the content validity of primary mental health literacy modules. There are five modules: physical, emotional, cognitive, social, and mental health literacy. Five professionals, including clinical psychologists and teachers or staff at school, were involved in this study. The evaluation regarding modules’ contents was gathered using expert judgment sheets. Data analysis was performed using Aiken’s V. The results revealed a value range of 0.9-1.0, suggesting that experts acknowledged that all modules must be delivered to adolescents in school to promote their mental health. However, two comments must be considered in implementing this module, including inserting the reflection moment for students, improving the delivery method, and using popular language that adolescents frequently use.

Abstract

Prevention of drug abuse in students is an effort that needs to be done by the school to minimize the illicit circulation of drugs in the school environment. The goal to be achieved in this study is to determine the implications of the implementation of peer counselors on the prevention of drug abuse in students. This study used a correlation research design with two variables, namely peer counselors and drug abuse prevention. Using accidental sampling techniques, a total of 250 peer counselors from 5 high schools were obtained, then data were collected using peer counselor implementation questionnaires and drug abuse prevention questionnaires after which they were analyzed using the Pearson Product Moment correlation coefficient. The results showed a positive and significant relationship with an rxy value of 0.745 with a rtable value obtained of 0.273. This shows that the rxy value is more than the rtable value, so there is a positive and significant influence from some of the implementation of anti-drug peer counselors on the variable of prevention of anthroba abuse in students with the level of influence between some independent and some dependent, in the high category (0.61 to 0.80). The information indicates that the presence of peer counselors spread across high schools in Bone Bolango Regency plays an important role in preventing drug abuse in students.

Abstract

Academic anxiety in students is a concern for education. The problem that arises is the high level of academic anxiety among students, which is caused by several factors. Ottens believes that academic anxiety arises when a person experiences disturbances in thought patterns, behavior, and physiological responses due to feelings of excessive worry about academic performance. It consists of 4 dimensions, namely anxiety that results in mental activity (patterns of anxiety-engendering mental activity), forms of interest that show the wrong direction (misdirected attention), physical distress (physiological distress), and inappropriate actions (inappropriate behaviors). It will reduce students’ learning motivation, so they tend to look for alternative ways to overcome their academic anxiety, for example, in a negative way, namely making cheat sheets during exams, which will reduce their academic integrity. Therefore, researchers will measure students’ academic anxiety levels at SMAN 75. The data in this study was obtained from 254 students at SMAN 75. Test the validity of this instrument using LISREL and Amos software with the confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) program. The results stated that of 27 items in this instrument, three were irrelevant or invalid. So, if you drop it, you are left with 24 items that are only one aspect.

Abstract

Career self-efficacy plays a crucial role in shaping career-related behaviors, such as academic performance, major selection, and career transitions. However, research on career self-efficacy as a distinct variable in Indonesia remains limited. This study examines gender differences in career self-efficacy among final-semester students at a university in Jakarta. Using a comparative quantitative approach, data were collected from 370 university students through a quota sampling technique. The findings indicate a significant difference between male and female students, with men exhibiting higher career self-efficacy scores. Additionally, most respondents demonstrated high career self-efficacy, suggesting confidence in completing career-related tasks and transitioning into the workforce. However, female students, despite overall high self-efficacy, reported lower confidence in technical and leadership-oriented tasks. These findings highlight the importance of gender-responsive career counseling and skill development programs to address self-efficacy disparities. This study contributes to the understanding of career self-efficacy in Indonesia and underscores the need for more comprehensive career interventions.

Abstract

The notion of “meaning of life” carries substantial importance when considering the holistic state of being throughout different phases of one’s existence. Adolescents with the cognitive ability to comprehend and determine the significance of existence frequently exhibit a feeling of contentment and overall welfare in their encounters. This research endeavour aimed to investigate the impact of life goal interpretation on the subjective well-being of adolescents of Minangkabau ethnicity. This investigation is quantitative and employs correlational methodology. Adolescents belonging to the Minangkabau ethnic group were assembled as subjects for this study. This research utilized a sample of 182 adolescents from the Minangkabau tribe. The research employs a subjective well-being instrument derived from Dineer, comprising 56 items, to assess cognitive and affective dimensions. Subsequently, elements of creative, experience, and attitude value are evaluated using a meaning of life instrument developed from Victor Frank’s theory, comprising 47 items. Methods for analyzing data consist of descriptive, correlation, and straightforward regression tests. Numerous studies indicate that adolescents consider life objectives of the utmost importance. On the other hand, adolescents of Minangkabau ethnicity should pay close attention to their subjective well-being. With a variance of 42.7%, the meaning of life is substantially impacts the subjective well-being of Minangkabau adolescents. These results suggest that the notion of life’s purpose significantly affects an individual’s subjective well-being. Investigating and comprehending the purpose of existence can cultivate positive emotions and generate sentiments of contentment and joy among adolescents.
