Abstract

Learning at vocational schools aims to prepare the younger generation for work or entrepreneurship. However, in Indonesia, vocational school graduates are the highest contributor to unemployment, namely 9.6%. To increase the competitiveness of graduates, vocational schools must improve the quality of education and vocational skills, especially scientific and mathematical process skills. The objective of this research is to assess the influence of incorporating the WhatsApp-assisted inquiry training on the science process skills and mathematical representation abilities of vocational school students enrolled in the electricity skills program. The study was carried out as a quasi-experiment employing a non-equivalent control group design. A saturated sample of 85 respondents from three classes, including one experimental class and two control classes, was utilized. Prior to the intervention, a pretest was administered. The experimental class received the inquiry training with WhatsApp, while the control class 1 received the inquiry training, and the control class 2 received the direct instruction. The findings of the study indicate that the inquiry training with WhatsApp yields a positive impact and is more effective in enhancing the science process skills and mathematical representation abilities of vocational school students in comparison to the inquiry training model and the direct instruction model, achieving an mean score of 84.16 and an N-Gain score of 0.72 in the high category.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the critical roles of digital literacy and analytical thinking skills in addressing misinformation challenges in the 21st-century digital era. Using a systematic literature review (SLR) guided by PRISMA methodology, ten peer-reviewed articles published in the last four years were analyzed to provide a comprehensive understanding. The results reveal that deficiencies in digital literacy and analytical thinking increase vulnerability to misinformation, hinder online participation, and limit educational opportunities. Conversely, these competencies empower individuals to evaluate information critically, foster civic engagement, and enhance learning experiences. Technological interventions, such as e-tutorials, project-based learning, and digital storytelling, effectively develop these skills when supported by structured teacher guidance. The study concludes that integrating these skills into educational frameworks is essential to foster resilience against misinformation and nurture informed digital citizens. It advocates for collaborative efforts among educators, policymakers, and technology experts to design adaptive and sustainable learning environments tailored to diverse needs. These insights contribute to the discourse on combating misinformation and preparing individuals for challenges in a rapidly evolving digital landscape.

Abstract

Gamification is the application of game elements in non-game contexts, has become an innovative trend in education to improve students' motivation, engagement, and learning experience. This study aims to systematically examine the effect of gamification on the affective domain of elementary school students, which includes aspects such as interest, attitude, and emotional values in learning. Using the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach based on the PRISMA method, this study analyzed relevant literature from leading databases. A total of 40 selected articles from leading journals, conferences, and literature were identified, involving empirical studies on the implementation of gamification in education. The results of the analysis showed that gamification consistently increased students' intrinsic motivation, emotional engagement, and positive attitudes towards learning. This study also found that the effect of gamification on the affective domain was greatly influenced by the implementation design, educational context, and teacher ability in utilizing technology. Thus, this study concludes that gamification has great potential to improve the affective aspect of learning at the elementary school level, but its success is highly dependent on proper design and implementation. This study recommends the development of a gamification model that is more inclusive and relevant to students' learning needs, as well as the integration of systematic evaluation elements to measure its long-term impact and make an important contribution to understanding the potential of gamification as a pedagogical approach that can improve the quality of learning, especially in the affective aspects of elementary school students.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the quality of education at SMA Negeri 1 Serang City through the implementation of the zoning-based New Student Admission (PPDB) policy, focusing on both academic and non-academic aspects. The zoning-based PPDB policy is expected to enhance educational equity by providing fairer opportunities for students to access nearby schools. This research employs a qualitative method with a case study approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and relevant document analysis. The research informants included teachers, students, and parents at SMA Negeri 1 Serang City. The findings indicate that the zoning-based PPDB policy has a positive impact on the quality of education in non-academic aspects, particularly in terms of student diversity and the improvement of social skills. However, from an academic perspective, several challenges were identified, such as significant disparities in students' competency levels, which affect the teaching and learning process in the classroom. Additionally, this policy presents new challenges for teachers in adapting instructional methods to meet the diverse needs of students. Although improvements in non-academic aspects have been observed, overall educational quality still requires adequate policy support and resources to address academic disparities. The findings of this study contribute to the understanding of the impact of the zoning-based PPDB policy on education quality and provide recommendations for improving more comprehensive educational services.
