Abstract

This study aims to map the competency levels of human resources (HR) at Hotel Grand Tamaro Parapat, focusing on three key dimensions: knowledge, skills, and attitude. The research is motivated by the critical importance of service quality in the hospitality industry, which relies heavily on the capability of its human resources. A qualitative approach was employed, utilizing data collection techniques such as observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Data were analyzed using a quadrant-based framework to categorize employees into four groups according to the combination of their knowledge, skills, and attitude. The findings reveal a significant competency gap across several departments, particularly in the dimensions of attitude and skills. The study recommends the implementation of regular training programs, professional certification schemes, and the cultivation of a supportive work culture as strategic efforts to sustainably enhance HR competencies.

Abstract

This study explores Memayu Hayuning Bawana, a traditional Javanese philosophy that emphasizes harmony, sustainability, and ethical responsibility, as a guiding framework for cultural-based tourism development in the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY), Indonesia. In the face of increasing globalization and cultural commodification, this research investigates how local philosophical wisdom can serve as an alternative paradigm to mainstream tourism strategies that often neglect cultural authenticity and ecological integrity.nUsing a qualitative, descriptive-analytical approach, data were collected through literature reviews and in-depth interviews with key stakeholders, including tourism village managers, cultural practitioners, and policy authorities in Yogyakarta. Thematic analysis was employed to interpret the integration of Memayu Hayuning Bawana within three dimensions: cultural preservation, environmental sustainability, and community empowerment.nFindings indicate that applying this philosophy helps revitalize traditional practices such as batik-making and gamelan performances, supports ecotourism initiatives based on ecological balance, and fosters inclusive tourism models through community-based enterprises. However, challenges such as the commodification of culture, unequal benefit distribution, and superficial environmental efforts highlight the need for balanced and inclusive governance.

Abstract

Tourism is a strategic sector that significantly contributes to Indonesia’s economy, especially in Bali as an international destination. Service quality and staff language proficiency are important factors in shaping a satisfying tourist experience. This study aims to analyze tourists’ perceptions of service quality and staff language proficiency at La Brisa Bali, a popular beach club in Canggu, Bali. A quantitative approach with a descriptive-verificative method and purposive sampling technique was used to collect data from 80 tourist respondents. Service quality measurement refers to the five SERVQUAL dimensions (tangibles, reliability, responsiveness, assurance, empathy), while language proficiency was assessed based on fluency, clarity of communication, and the use of foreign languages, particularly English. The results show that tourists rate La Brisa Bali’s service quality as good to very good, with an average score of 4.25. The reliability dimension received the highest score, indicating consistent and dependable service that satisfies visitors. Staff language proficiency also received a good rating (average 4.10), supporting effective interaction with international tourists. However, there remains room for improvement in staff responsiveness, empathy, and communication skills. These findings provide a strategic basis for La Brisa’s management to enhance service quality and staff language proficiency, aiming to strengthen tourist loyalty and maintain its reputation as a premium tourism destination in Bali.

Abstract

Theme parks serve as significant tourism attractions that necessitate strategic reorientation, given the evolving expectations and experiences of tourists. The diverse motivation segments of theme park visitors indicate varying incentives, which impact their decisions and actions while at the theme park. This study aims to segment theme park visitors based on their visitation motivations, utilizing four primary variables: Challenge, Curiosity and need for different, Escape and relaxation, and Socializing with family and friends. A quantitative method was employed, collecting data through structured questionnaires from 450 respondents who had visited a theme park. Data were reduced using Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and K-Means to form clusters. The research findings indicate several motivations influencing theme park visitation, namely: Experiential Enjoyment Seekers, Escape and Fun-Oriented Visitors and Relationship-Driven Companions. This study contributes to expanding the existing literature on visitor motivations and offers managerial implications for theme park managers to adjust their marketing strategies according to these clusters, thereby enhancing visitor satisfaction and loyalty towards the theme park.

Abstract

Among its many attractions, Sukabumi Regency offers a wealth of cultural and natural wonders, which attract visitors with their enchanting charm. Karang Hawu Beach in Cisolok, Sukabumi, in particular, is renowned for its mysterious atmosphere associated with the myth of Nyai Roro Kidul, the queen of the southern coast. Although the number of tourist visits tends to increase, enhancing the attractiveness of the Karang Hawu destination through improved facilities and security measures can encourage repeat visits and support economic growth. The study findings underline the importance of attractions in influencing visitors’ intention to return, with a positive correlation observed between destination attractiveness and revisit intention. Enhancing the charm of the Karang Hawu destination in Sukabumi Regency is essential to attract and retain tourists. Recommendations for tourism managers include improving facilities, promoting natural beauty through social media, and fostering positive experiences to encourage repeat visits and word-of-mouth recommendations. Abstract

This study investigates the adoption and impact of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) in tourism marketing, exploring the intersection of technology performance, user adoption, and task suitability through the dual perspectives of emerging talent and established professionals. A multi-method research design was employed, combining a quasi-experiment with higher education tourism students and semi-structured interviews with industry practitioners. The experiment compared the performance of a control group against an AI-prompted group on standardized marketing tasks. The interviews explored real-world adoption drivers, guided by an integrated framework of Task-Technology Fit (TTF) and the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT). Experimental results demonstrate that GenAI significantly enhances efficiency across all tasks. However, its impact on quality is task-dependent: it modestly improves long-form text, has a neutral effect on short-form content, and markedly decreases the quality of visual design outputs. The qualitative findings reveal that practitioner adoption is primarily driven by high TTF and strong Performance Expectancy. The study also identifies Effort Expectancy, Social Influence, and Facilitating Conditions as key factors, while highlighting Digital Literacy as a critical, overarching moderator that governs the effective utilization of AI tools. The study advocates for a fundamental shift in tourism education and professional development toward fostering critical AI literacy to ensure technology is leveraged as a collaborative tool that augments, rather than compromises, strategic and creative quality.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze macroeconomic and digital factors influencing tourist arrivals in the Riau Islands Province and to develop a multiple linear regression-based prediction model. The research utilizes monthly time-series data from January 2015 to June 2024, covering variables such as Gross Domestic Product (GDP), inflation, Rupiah–US Dollar exchange rate, and travel interest index derived from Google Trends. The findings reveal that the developed model demonstrates high accuracy, with an Adjusted R² of 0.87 and a Mean Absolute Percentage Error (MAPE) of 6.85%. Partially, GDP and the Google Trends index have a positive and significant effect on tourist arrivals, while inflation and exchange rate fluctuations show a negative and significant impact. Based on the model, tourist arrivals in the Riau Islands are projected to reach 2.45 million in 2025 and 2.62 million in 2026. These results highlight the importance of maintaining economic stability and strengthening data-driven digital marketing strategies to foster the tourism sector’s growth in the post-pandemic era.
