Abstract

This study aims to identify and analyze the stages of students' onto-semiotic approach to solving mathematical problems. This research is based on the mathematical object of the onto-semiotic approach, namely language, concepts, propositions, procedures, situations, and arguments. This research is qualitative research with a phenomenological type. The research subjects were high school students of eleventh grade. The technique of taking the subject is using a purposeful sampling technique. The research instrument used a test in the form of a linear program description question. The results of the study show that the onto-semiotic approach contains language stages including changing contextual objects into variables, writing mathematical symbols, writing mathematical models, and others; the concept stage includes students creating and filling in tables by grouping the objects in the problem to make it easier to solve mathematical problems; the proposition stage consists of the reasons students cannot replace variables; the procedure stage include simplifying coefficients and constants, how to get the value of each variable, and others; the situation stage includes writing a mathematical model that will be used to find the value of each variable, find the point of intersection of the line, and others.

Abstract

Project-based learning is ommited by the curricula of various countries. For the future development, the extent of research related to project-based learning needs to be mapped. This literature review research does a bibliometric analysis of project-based learning research published in Scopus-indexed journals over the last ten years. There are 802 articles from the Scopus database in 2014-2023. The R package and VOSViewer tools are used to perform bibliometric analysis. The results are analyzed and intepreted, including the distribution per year, subject area, affiliation, country or region, citations, main information, treemap, authorship, most cited documents, relationships between years, dendrogram, collaboration between authors, collaboration between countries and continents, as well as the relationship between keywords in the article. The number of research increased significantly from 2014 to 2022. More than 50% of these came from social sciences field. Universitas Negeri Malang has published the most articles, while the United States is most publications country. Although the United States has the most documents, Spain is the the most cited country. The most cited document is written by Kokotsaki et al. in 2016. United States, China, Australia, France, and the United Kingdom often collaborate between countries and continents.

Abstract

This research aims to describe the challenges of junior high school mathematics teachers in Pekanbaru in preparing to implement the independent curriculum. This type of research is a mixture of quantitative and qualitative research. The subjects of this research were 10 teachers from 5 schools in Pekanbaru. Data was collected using interviews, FGD, and questionnaires. Based on the results of data analysis, the challenges for mathematics teachers in preparing an independent curriculum are as follows. First, training and socialization have not been able to provide complete understanding for teachers in preparing the Independent Curriculum. Second, teachers try to overcome difficulties in planning learning in the Independent Curriculum. Third, the implementation of learning is not appropriate and the facilities and infrastructure at school are not yet supportive, coupled with differences in the cognitive background of students. Fourth, teachers need to improve their understanding completely regarding the system for assessing and reporting learning outcomes in the Independent Curriculum. Then, if we trace it based on the questionnaire, we can conclude that the preparation for implementing the Independent Curriculum by junior high school mathematics teachers in Pekanbaru, even though they are still experiencing various challenges, is in the Good category (70% < score < 84%.), with details, 5 teachers are in the adequate category while 5 people are in the Good category.

Abstract

Critical thinking ability is one of the higher order thinking skills. Students who have high critical thinking skills are expected to have the ability to analyze problems properly and precisely. The purpose of the present study was to find out the differences in students' mathematical critical thinking skills who received learning using the conceptual change approach and those who received conventional learning, namely the scientific approach. This study was conducted at a junior high school in South Tangerang City, Banten Province. The research method used was a quasi-experimental research design with a post test only control design. The research sample consisted of 70 students consisting of 37 students in the experiment group and 33 students in the control group selected by a cluster random sampling technique. Results indicate that students' mathematical critical thinking skills who learned with the conceptual change approach are higher than those of students who learned by the scientific approach. The critical thinking skills of students who received learning by the conceptual change approach were 72.64%, on the indicator of analyzing arguments, 67.23%, on the indicator of  making conclusions,  84.46%, on evaluating, and 61.85%  on solving problems

Abstract

This study aims to describe the differences in the effectiveness of the realistic mathematics education approach with team assisted individualization settings and the realistic mathematics education approach in terms of problem solving abilities and students' motivation to learn mathematics. The type of research used is quasi-experimental. The population of this study was all eighth grade students of Junior High School Negeri di Yogyakarta and two classes were taken randomly. The instruments used to collect data are problem solving test questions and a motivational questionnaire for learning mathematics. The results showed: (1) the realistic mathematics education approach with team assisted individualization settings was effective in terms of problem solving abilities and students' mathematics learning motivation, (2) the realistic mathematics education approach was effective in terms of problem solving abilities and students' mathematics learning motivation, and (3 ) there is a difference in effectiveness between the realistic mathematics education approach and the team assisted individualization setting and the realistic mathematics education approach in terms of problem solving abilities and students' motivation to learn mathematics simultaneously

Abstract

Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian survei yang bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan kemampuan numerasi dan tingkat growth mindset siswa SMP dan Madrasah Tsanawiyah di Kabupaten Purworejo. Penelitian dilakukan pada enam sekolah dengan total sampel sebanyak 171 siswa kelas VIII dari tiga SMP dan tiga Madrasah Tsanawiyah di Kabupaten Purworejo. Data dianalisis menggunakan estimasi parameter untuk melihat kemampuan numerasi dan tingkat growth mindset populasi serta uji korelasi untuk melihat hubungan kemampuan numerasi dan tingkat growth mindset siswa. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa secara umum rata-rata skor kemampuan numerasi siswa berada dalam kategori perlu intervensi khusus dan tingkat growth mindset siswa berada dalam kategori sedang. Berdasarkan uji korelasi didapatkan hubungan antara kemampuan numerasi dan growth mindset siswa yang signifikan namun rendah.This research is survey research that aims to describe the numeracy abilities and growth mindset level of junior high school and Tsanawiyah students in Purworejo Regency. The research was conducted at six schools with a total sample of 171 class VIII students from three junior high schools and three Madrasah Tsanawiyah in Purworejo Regency. The data was analyzed using parameter estimates to see numeracy abilities and population growth mindset levels as well as correlation tests to see the relationship between numeracy abilities and students' growth mindset levels. The research results show that in general the average score of students' numeracy skills is in the category that requires special intervention and the level of students' growth mindset is in the medium category. Based on the correlation test, it was found that the relationship between numeracy ability and students' growth mindset was significant but low.

Abstract

The STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) approach with a project-based learning model is one of the learning strategies that contribute to the development of 21st century skills. But how does this strategy apply to learning mathematics in elementary schools? In addition, can this strategy affect the interest in learning mathematics and numeracy skills of elementary school students? This study aims to answer these questions as well as develop and evaluate its application in mathematics learning in elementary schools. The research method used is Design-Based Research (DBR) which is conducted through active collaboration between researchers and classroom teachers. Data collection used questionnaires, tests, observations and interviews. Based on statistical analysis of learning interest data and numeracy skills, a significance value of 0.00 <0.05 was obtained so it can be concluded that learning mathematics using a project-based STEAM approach has a positive and significant effect on mathematics learning interest and numeracy literacy skills of elementary school students. Then its implementation based on observations and interviews can be effective and improve students' abilities. However, its application also has shortcomings so that it must be properly prepared.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to ascertain the Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) profile of prospective mathematics teachers in the microteaching course. The research methodology employed a survey research design. The target population for this investigation comprises prospective mathematics teacher students enrolled at a University in Banten, Indonesia. The sample for this study comprises students in their sixth semester of the Mathematics Education program who are currently enrolled in the microteaching course. The inclusion criteria for the sample require that these students have successfully completed coursework in foundational technology use, pedagogical principles, and both basic and advanced mathematics subjects. The research findings indicate that the majority of students exhibit a high level of Technological Content Knowledge (TCK) and Technological Pedagogical and Content Knowledge (TPACK), with percentages of 50% and 81.25% respectively. On the other hand, the majority of students demonstrate a moderate level of Pedagogical Knowledge (PK) and Technological Pedagogical Knowledge (TPK), with percentages of 56.25% and 31.25% respectively. Moreover, a significant portion of students show a low level of Technological Knowledge (TK) at 31.25%, Content Knowledge (CK) at 37.5%, and Pedagogical Content Knowledge (PCK) at 37.5%. It conluded, most prospective tezchers use the Technological Conten Knowledge (TCK) and Technological Pedagogical and Content Knowledge (TPACK) domains to conduct learning.

Abstract

It is of great importance for students to develop their mathematical communication skills. Mathematical communication skills play a pivotal role in mathematics education. Mathematical communication enables students to share ideas, clarify their understanding, and express their knowledge. The acquisition of proficient mathematical communication skills will facilitate a more profound comprehension of mathematical concepts. The objective of this study is to describe students' mathematical communication skills regarding flat-sided cubes and cuboids, with a focus on three indicators of mathematical communication skills as outlined by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM). The research design employed is that of descriptive research with a qualitative approach. The findings indicated that students exhibited a diverse range of mathematical communication skills. The students were divided into three categories according to their mathematical abilities. A more detailed examination of each category can be found in this article.

Abstract

Kemampuan pemahaman konsep matematis siswa yang masih  tergolong rendah memerlukan suatu penanganan berupa pembelajaran yang sesuai dengan karakteristik siswa dan materi pembelajaran. Hal itu dapat dilakukan dengan menghadirkan media pembelajaran yang difasilitasi oleh guru sebagai produk saintifik hasil desain dan pengembangan program multimedia interaksi Articulate Storyline. Penelitian ini bertujuan : (1) mendeskripsikan proses dan  menghasilkan produk media pembelajaran Articulate Storyline yang valid dan praktis; (2)  mengkaji kepraktisan implementasi pembelajaran menggunakan produk media pembelajaran Articulate Storyline (3) mengkaji peningkatan kemampuan pemahaman konsep matematis siswa pada materi Turunan yang mengikuti pembelajaran berbantuan media pembelajaran Articulate Storyline. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode pengembangan dengan model prosedural ADDIE: Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, dan Evaluation. Penelitian melibatkan 32 siswa kelas XI di Konawe Selatan menggunakan Instrumen lembar tes, angket, dan validasi. Data penelitian dianalisis secara deskriptif dan inferensial. Hasil penelitian pengembangan   media pembelajaran berbasis Articulate Storyline didapatkan valid dan sangat layak berdasarkan penilaian dari ahli materi dengan skor rata-rata keseluruhan 92% dan  ahli media diperoleh skor rata-rata keseluruhan 89%. Penilaian kepraktisan media pembelajaran diperoleh skor rata-rata 82% yang termasuk kategori sangat praktis. Hasil analisis kepraktisan diperoleh kategori praktis berdasarkan respon siswa dan guru melalui implementasi pembelajaran. Hasil analisis peningkatan kemampuan pemahaman konsep turunan didapatkan rerata N-gain sebesar 0,548 yang dapat dimaknai bahwa kemampuan pemahaman konsep pada pembelajaran dengan media ini mengalami peningkatan dengan kategori sedang rata-rata  hasil test kemampuan pemahaman konsep siswa adalah 66,4 hasil pretest dengan nilai minimun 62,2; maximum 75,6 yang berada pada kategori  kemampuan pemahaman konsep siswa yang cukup. Rata-rata postest kemampuan pemahaman konsep siswa adalah 84,9 dengan nilai minimun 73,3; maximum 93,3 yang berada pada kategori kemampuan pemahaman konsep yang tinggi. Produk media pembelajaran Articulate Storyline pada materi Turunan diharapkan dapat menjadi alternatif media pembelajaran pada siswa kelas XI SMA.  The ability to understand students' mathematical concepts that are still relatively low requires a handling in the form of learning in accordance with student characteristics and learning material. This can be done by presenting learning media facilitated by teachers as scientific products resulting from the design and development of multimedia programs for Articulate Storyline interaction. This study aims to: (1) describe the process and produce valid and practical Articulate Storyline learning media products; (2) examine the practicality of learning implementation using Articulate Storyline learning media products (3) examine the improvement of students' ability to understand mathematical concepts in derivative material that follows learning assisted by Articulate Storyline learning media. The research data were analyzed descriptively and inferentially. This research uses development methods with ADDIE procedural models: Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The study involved 32 students of grade XI Science using test sheet instruments, questionnaires, and validation. The results of research on the development of learning media based on Articulate Storyline were obtained valid and very feasible based on the assessment of material experts with an overall average score of 92% and media experts obtained an overall average score of 89%. Assessment of the practicality of learning media obtained an average score of 82% which is included in the very practical category. The results of the practicality analysis obtained practical categories based on student and teacher responses through the implementation of learning. The results of the analysis of increasing the ability to understand derivative concepts obtained an average N-gain of 0.548 which can be interpreted that the ability to understand concepts in learning with this media has increased with the medium category, the average test result of the student's concept understanding ability is 66.4 pretest results with a minimum value of 62.2; Maximum 75.6 which is in the category of sufficient student concept understanding ability. The average postest of students' concept comprehension ability is 84.9 with a minimum score of 73.3; Maximum 93.3 which is in the category of high concept understanding ability. Articulate Storyline learning media products on Derivative material are expected to be an alternative learning media for grade XI high school students
