Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the improvement of cognitive function and self-efficacy among students through the application of blended learning methods. This classroom action research (CAR) was conducted in two cycles, with each cycle including planning, implementation, observation, and reflection stages. The subjects of the study were 36 students from class X MIPA 5 at SMA Negeri 2 Wonogiri. Cognitive function data were collected using cognitive tests, while self-efficacy data were gathered through a self-efficacy scale questionnaire. The results showed that the application of blended learning methods effectively improved students' cognitive function. Before the intervention, the average cognitive score of students was 59.0%, which increased to 66.8% after the first cycle and reached 76.8% after the second cycle. The most significant improvements were observed in the dimensions of analysis and evaluation skills, with the average score increasing from 58.0% to 76.0% for analysis, and from 55.5% to 73.5% for evaluation after two cycles. Additionally, students' self-efficacy also showed significant improvement, with 30% of students at a high level, 68% at a moderate level, and only 2% at a low level after the second cycle. This study concludes that the blended learning method not only enhances students' overall cognitive abilities but also strengthens their confidence in tackling academic tasks.

Abstract

Macronutrient content of post-exercise meal is a fundamental for achieving optimal recovery following exercise training. This study aimed to analyze the effects of a high-fat meal consumed after training on blood glucose and pressure levels in young male soccer athletes. Furthermore, examining the relationship among body composition variables was a secondary objective. A pre-post intervention study was conducted with 34 male soccer athletes (age: 16 ± 0.8 years). Participants consumed a high-fat meal (-45% of total intake 1061 kcal) immediately after strenuous training. Blood samples were collected at baseline, immediately post-training, and 1 h post-training to assess trends in blood glucose and pressure levels. Bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) was used to measure participant characteristics. Statistical analysis was performed using one-way repeated measures ANOVA followed by post hoc Bonferroni tests to determine significant differences between groups. Pearson correlation analysis was conducted to examine the relationships among the body composition variables. The average skeletal muscle mass and body fat percentage were approximately 59% and 24.6%, respectively. Glucose levels remained unchanged immediately after training but increased significantly by ~17% (p < 0.001) 1 h later. Systolic blood pressure (SBP) decreased by ~5% (p = 0.03) at 1 h post-training, while diastolic blood pressure (DBP) exhibited minimal change (p = 0.06). A correlation analysis indicated an inverse relationship between body mass and skeletal muscle mass, contrasting with the linear relationship between body mass and body fat. The results suggest that a high-fat meal consumed after exercise may lead to an increase in glucose levels 1 h post-exercise. The slight reduction in SBP observed 1 h post-training may represent a normal physiological response to exercise. Since the current study did not have the exercise-only group, further research is needed to confirm whether the change of the blood glucose levels was mainly from the diet.

Abstract

The 24-hour guidelines heavily consider the dietary intake, sleep patterns, and physical activity habits of children. This study aims to determine the validity of the Parent-SmalQ Indonesia content for each question item, facilitating clear communication, comprehension, and implementation as an assessment tool for investigating children's lifestyles, consists of physical activity habits, sleep patterns, and dietary intake (three domains). Methods: The research targets both children and their parents, integrating their behaviours into a cohesive unit of voluntary participants. This validity assessment employs the phases of the Content Validation Index (CVI) for specific computations. Resuls: The three evaluated indicators are generated from the clarity, relevance, and completeness of each question item, comprising a total of 20 questions, with 3 validation items for each question, derived from 6 domains (3 domains for children; 3 domains for parents). Results from content validation indicate that the CVI elements of clarity (0.80 > 0.78), relevance (0.85 > 0.78), and completeness (0.85 > 0.78) were satisfactory. Conclusion: The Parent-SmalQ Indonesia questionnaire has achieved an adequate level of validity as a tool for assessing physical activity habits, sleep patterns, and dietary consumption. The Parent-SmalQ Indonesia questionnaire, verified for content, can predict children's behavior based on parental behaviours about physical activity, sleep, and dietary intake.

Abstract

Sports and physical education have an essential role in improving morality in adolescents by implementing sports values, especially in overcoming juvenile delinquency and negative behaviour, one of which is bullying. This research seeks to investigate the comparison of sports values in students based on their environment. This study employs a numerical descriptive approach with a comparative survey design conducted in two schools, namely junior high schools and vocational high schools in Bandung Greater, with a total of 1,531 (869 students living in villages and 662 students living in cities) aged 14-17 years. The instrument in this study used the Youth Sport Values Questionnaire-2 (YSVQ-2), with data analysis using the Mann - Whitney U test. The Findings revealed a notable distinction in the Means Ranks value between villages and cities on Youth Sport Values (sig 0.011). The result show that urban areas have higher Youth Sport Values than rural areas. Several factors, including adequate sports facilities and a developing sports culture in the city, can influence this difference. These findings may indicate the importance of increasing access to sports facilities and emphasizing physical education in order to improve moral values and sportsmanship in students. Further research can examine more deeply the dynamics of the formation of sports values in various contexts using different research methods.

Abstract

Drowning during swimming has become a significant public health concern that urged the World Health Organization to call for all school-aged children to be taught basic swimming skills, water safety, and rescue techniques. In this teaching, efficiency shall be obtained with the help of an effective learning model. This study will investigate the publication trends of research about swimming learning models carried out for students during the last 22 years, from 2002 until 2024, using the data from the Scopus database. The search was carried out on August 7, 2024, by title, abstract, and keywords, using the sets of words "swimming AND learning AND model AND for AND students," and obtained 47 documents, where 66% were articles, 12.8% conference reviews, 10.6% conference papers, 4.3% book chapters, 2.1% books, 2.1% notes, and 2.1% reviews. The most frequent year of publication corresponded to the year 2023, with a total of 10 documents. Three each by the International Journal of Human Movement and Sport Science and Emerald Emerging Markets Case Studies. Among the 15 contributing authors, only two documents were contributed by Firmansyah Dlis and Mao Jie. Affiliation-wise, two were contributed by Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta, Wuhan Sports University, Universitas Negeri Surabaya, and Universitas Negeri Jakarta. Nationally, China tops the list with eight documents. The most cited article, by Iserbyt et al. (2016), received 44 citations in 22 years. Based on the VOSviewer analysis, the "swimming learning model" item count is low (47 documents in 22 years). Thus, the visualization has been limited, with only a few networking-connected words. Such a scenario represents that research on swimming learning models for students still holds potential for further investigation.

Abstract

Wayang kulit is a Javanese cultural heritage that is full of moral and philosophical values, but adolescents' interest in it is decreasing. Therefore, an innovative approach is needed to reintroduce wayang kulit to the younger generation. This study aims to test the effectiveness of the Javanese Kickfun Game (J-KIG) in introducing puppetry to adolescents. The method used was a quasi-experiment with a one group pretest-posttest design. The research sample consisted of 14 adolescents from Pundong 1, Sleman, Indonesia. The instrument used was the J-KIG cognitive test, and the data analysis was carried out by the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test. The results of the normality test showed that the pretest data were normal and the posttest data were not distributed normally, so non-parametric analysis was used. The results of the Wilcoxon test showed a significant improvement between pretest and posttest scores (Z = −3.210; p = 0.001), with 13 respondents improving and 1 respondent having the same score. These findings show that J-KIG is effectively used as an educational medium to introduce the values of wayang kulit to adolescents. The implication of this study is that sports games combined with Wayang kulit, which is a Javanese cultural heritage rich in moral and philosophical values, can be an innovative strategy in physical education, character building, and cultural preservation.

Abstract

The growing health hazards associated with obesity and excess weight, particularly in young children, have made efforts to avoid these issues a top priority.  By employing a cross-sectional research design, this study seeks to determine the reasons for weight growth in young children. Fifty children served as research subjects.  Multivariate analysis was the method of analysis employed.  The study's findings indicated a substantial (p <0.05) correlation between early childhood weight gain and variation factors.  According to the study's findings, early childhood weight growth was associated with nutrition, parental genetics, and a lack of physical exercise. The growing health hazards associated with obesity and excess weight, particularly in young children, have made efforts to avoid these issues a top priority. This research was conducted in early childhood education and kindergartens in Kediri, East Java. Purposive sampling was used, meaning the sample was selected based on specific considerations, namely those who were overweight or obese. By employing a cross-sectional research design, this study seeks to determine the reasons for weight growth in young children. Fifty children served as research subjects. Multivariate analysis was the method of analysis employed. The results of the study were that the hereditary factor variable obtained a percentage of 56% with a p value of 0.045 which indicates p < 0.05 proving that there is a significant relationship between hereditary factors and weight gain. The dietary pattern variable accounted for the highest percentage, at 62%, with a p-value of 0.023, indicating a p < 0.05, demonstrating a significant relationship between dietary patterns and weight gain in early childhood. The final variable was physical activity, accounting for 54%. The p-value was 0.027, indicating a p < 0.05, indicating a significant relationship between physical activity and weight gain. The conclusion of this study is that the variables of poor dietary management and lack of daily physical activity are factors that have a higher risk of weight gain.
