Abstract

This study examines the motivations behind students’ choices to pursue a major in Primary Islamic Education Teacher Training (PGMI) at the Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training, UIN Ar-Raniry Banda Aceh. PGMI aims to prepare graduates with competencies in foundational Islamic education and child development, equipping them to be creative, productive, and independent educators. Given the varied internal and external motivations influencing student decisions, understanding these motivations is essential, as they play a crucial role in academic success and career satisfaction. Accurate choice of major can significantly impact student achievement and future opportunities, while an inappropriate choice may hinder career potential. Employing a quantitative, descriptive-exploratory approach, this study seeks to answer the question, "What motivates students to choose PGMI as their major?" Participants included PGMI students from the 2019 cohort at UIN Ar-Raniry Banda Aceh. Data collection involved questionnaires and observations, with results analyzed through descriptive statistics. Findings revealed two primary motivational factors influencing students’ choice of PGMI: (1) a strong aspiration to become teachers and (2) respect for parental expectations. This research contributes insights into student motivation, supporting universities in aligning programs with student interests and career goals. Keywords: Student Motivation, Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Teacher Education, PGMI, Major Selection, Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training, UIN Ar-Raniry, Career Motivation

Abstract

This study aims to compare the results of instrument testing methods between applying classical test theory and item response theory using the Rasch model in question instruments on respiratory system material. This study employed descriptive quantitative methodology, with a sample involving 36 students. The analyzed instrument consisted of 40 multiple-choice questions on respiratory system material. Instrument analysis utilized classical test theory with Microsoft Excel and item response theory with Winstep Rasch ver 4.5.2.0. The data analysis from classical test theory and item response theory offers slightly different interpretations but is mutually complementary. Both classical test theory and item response theory may assess the validity, reliability, distractor effectiveness, difficulty level, and discriminating power of questions. Item response theory provides a comprehensive analysis of test results through the use of the Wright map as a bar which helps determine a student's ability about the difficulty level of the question. Scalogram is used to identify patterns in students’ responses, allowing for the detection of cheating and inaccuracies in answering questions. Additionally, DIF items are employed to identify item bias. This study concludes that any developed instrument must possess the characteristics that meet the requirements to measure competency effectively. The requirements for an instrument can be analyzed using item response theory with the Rasch model, which provides in-depth interpretation. Keywords: Classical test theory, item response theory, Rasch model, instrument

Abstract

This study is inspired by the potency of positive school culture in enhancing education quality, especially within the madrasah environment. A strong school culture has been considered crucial, but efforts toward strong strategic management to support the school culture still face many challenges. Among the most urgent issues are adjustments to the constantly evolving standards for accreditation, such as the 2020 Accreditation Certification Tool. The present study analyzes how strategic management influences the school culture to achieve standards in MIN Bandung. This case study, using a qualitative approach, has collected data through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation, then analyzed using thematic techniques in identifying management patterns that support school culture. It is observed that MIN Bandung can instill into the culture the values of honesty, cooperation, and compassion, so that student motivation positively influences performance. On the contrary, what needs to be faced in the current era is the sustainability of value implementation and resource limitation. The conclusion suggests that the strategy should become more adaptive and holistic to be compatible with the 2020 accreditation standards. Keywords: Strategic management, school culture, accreditation.
