Abstract

This study explores the interpretation of mutashabihat eschatological verses in the Qur'an, focusing on the evolving approaches of classical and modern exegetes. Classical scholars, such as Al-Ṭabarī and Al-Rāzī, predominantly employed tafwīḍ (submission of meaning), acknowledging the limits of human cognition regarding the ultimate reality of these verses. In contrast, modern exegetes like Quraish Shihab and Ibn ‘Āshūr have increasingly adopted ta’wīl (symbolic interpretation), offering deeper moral and spiritual insights while still preserving the Qur'anic messages. The study analyzes a purposive sample of mutashabihat eschatological verses, including those describing the Day of Judgment, Paradise, Hell, and eschatological concepts such as aṣ-Ṣirāt (the bridge) and al-Mīzān (the scale). The analysis identifies key trends in the interpretation of these verses, highlighting the shift from literal to symbolic readings and emphasizing the pedagogical role of eschatological imagery. This study contributes to the existing literature by providing a comprehensive examination of the transition from tafwīḍ to ta’wīl in the interpretation of eschatological verses and offering insights into how these interpretations can inform modern Islamic pedagogy. The implications of this study are significant for both scholarly engagement with Qur'anic exegesis and the teaching of ulūm al-Qur'an (sciences of the Qur'an), encouraging a flexible, contextually relevant approach to interpreting eschatological verses in light of contemporary theological and educational concerns.

Abstract

Curriculum reform policies often assume that schools are able to translate national directives into coherent classroom practice, yet empirical evidence shows that implementation is frequently uneven and shaped by local institutional contexts. This study examines how the Merdeka Curriculum is enacted as a public education policy in an Islamic junior high school, addressing the limited policy-focused literature on curriculum enactment in value-based school settings. Using a sequential explanatory mixed-methods design, the study analyzes teachers’ perceptions and practices to capture both broad implementation patterns and their contextual explanations at the school level. The findings reveal a selective and asymmetrical pattern of policy enactment. Components aligned with institutional values, such as religious school culture, leadership support, and character education, are enacted more strongly, while pedagogically demanding elements, particularly differentiated instruction, remain a persistent implementation bottleneck. The enactment of Pancasila Student Profile Projects (P5) emerges as a key mechanism of policy mediation, as national policy objectives are translated into religious routines and social-service activities that resonate with the school’s Islamic identity. However, the study also finds that authentic assessment practices, although positively perceived, are constrained by uneven rubric quality and limited documentation of learning evidence. The study concludes that religious school culture can function as an enabling infrastructure for curriculum policy enactment, but without sustained pedagogical support, especially in differentiation and assessment literacy, policy autonomy risks producing symbolic rather than substantive implementation.

Abstract

This study aimed to develop and validate an Islamic education-based learning management model to strengthen students’ character formation in public elementary schools in Bandar Lampung, Indonesia. The study was motivated by the finding that character education in public schools had not yet been systematically integrated into instructional management and remained largely partial, incidental, and dependent on individual teacher initiative. Using a research and development design adapted from Borg and Gall and supported by a mixed-methods approach, the study was conducted in three public elementary schools: SDN 2 Sukajawa, SDN 2 Kupang Teba, and SDN 1 Sukarame Dua. Data were collected through observation, questionnaires, interviews, documentation, and validation instruments, and were analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively to examine the model’s validity, practicality, and effectiveness. The findings showed that the developed model was categorized as valid by experts and positively accepted by teachers and school principals as practical and feasible for implementation. The model also produced significant improvements in students’ spiritual and social attitudes across the participating schools, as confirmed by the paired-samples t-test results (t = -29.911, p < .001) and a moderate N-gain score of 0.39. These results indicate that systematic integration of Islamic values into instructional planning, classroom implementation, habituation, and evaluation can strengthen character formation in public elementary school contexts. This study contributes to the literature by offering an empirically tested and contextually grounded learning management model that extends Islamic character education from value transmission alone to a structured managerial framework applicable in mainstream public education.

Abstract

Education does not only function as a process of knowledge transfer, but also plays a role in shaping character, values, and 21st century skills. The implementation of deep learning requires a paradigm shift from teacher-centered learning to learner-centered learning. The success of deep learning implementation is greatly influenced by the role of schools as learning communities that involve all school members and stakeholders. This article aims to describe the good practices of SMP Muhammadiyah 9 Surabaya as a learning community in supporting deep learning based on the Merdeka Curriculum. This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach based on good practices carried out through On-the-Job Training (OJT) activities in the odd semester of the 2025/2026 academic year. The implementation stages include assess, design, implement, measure, and reflect. The results of the study show an increase in teacher collaboration through professional learning communities, increased student involvement in learning activities, and stronger partnerships between schools, parents, and the community. This program encourages the formation of a culture of reflection and continuous learning in the school environment. The findings of the study indicate that schools as learning communities are an effective strategy in supporting meaningful and sustainable deep learning.

Abstract

Islamic Religious Education (IRE) plays a crucial role in fostering religious moderation and strengthening national character, which is essential for achieving Indonesia's Vision 2045. This study aims to explore how IRE can contribute to the development of moderate religious values and national commitment in students by analyzing the current practices and identifying gaps in existing educational frameworks. A qualitative research design with a literature review approach was employed to systematically map, explore, and synthesize relevant studies on IRE and religious moderation. The findings show that IRE plays a central role in promoting social cohesion and preventing religious-based conflicts, yet the integration of religious moderation values into the formal curriculum remains insufficient. The study also highlights the need for a more structured approach to incorporating religious moderation in educational content, teacher training, and assessment tools. This research provides a comprehensive analysis of how IRE aligns with the broader goals of Indonesia's Vision 2045 and offers practical recommendations for enhancing IRE’s role in building a tolerant, inclusive, and nationally committed generation. The novelty of this study lies in its integrative approach, which bridges IRE with contemporary challenges posed by digital media and social transformation, providing valuable insights for future curriculum development and policy-making in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study explores the role of teachers' creative strategies in enhancing students' learning motivation in Islamic Religious Education (IRE) at Vocational High School (SMK) Negeri 4 Kota Jambi, a vocational school in Indonesia. Using a qualitative descriptive research design with a case study approach, data were collected through classroom observations, semi-structured interviews with teachers and students, and document analysis. The findings indicate that creative teaching strategies, including interactive questioning, contextualization of Islamic values to students' vocational fields, and student-centered activities, positively influence students’ motivation, leading to higher levels of engagement and active participation. In contrast, traditional lecture-based instruction was found to reduce motivation and engagement. The study aligns with motivational theories such as Self-Determination Theory, Expectancy-Value Theory, and Achievement Goal Theory, emphasizing the importance of autonomy, relevance, and mastery in fostering motivation. Despite the positive impact of creative strategies, teachers faced challenges such as time constraints, curriculum demands, and a lack of resources, which limited the consistent implementation of these strategies. This study contributes to the growing body of research on creative teaching practices in vocational education and offers practical insights for improving IRE teaching strategies and motivating students in vocational school settings.

Abstract

This study aims to improve the learning outcomes of Fiqh on ablution material through the use of 3D animated video media "Upin and Ipin" at Madrasah Tsanawiyah Negeri 5 Jambi City. The background of this study is the low absorption of students towards procedural materials and the lack of variety of learning media used by teachers. The method used is Classroom Action Research (CAR) consisting of two cycles, with research subjects totaling 25 students of class VII B. Data were collected through learning outcome tests, student activity observation sheets, and interviews. The results of the study showed a significant increase in learning outcomes gradually. In the pre-cycle stage, the percentage of students learning completeness was only 44% with an average score of 73.20. After the actions were carried out in Cycle I, the completeness increased to 64% with an average score of 81.80. In Cycle II, through improved guidance techniques and more intensive use of media, learning completeness reached 84% with an average score of 87.20. In addition, student learning activities increased from the sufficient category to very good. The conclusion of this study is that the use of 3D animated video media "Upin and Ipin" is effective in improving students' Fiqh learning outcomes because it is able to visualize the material concretely and create a pleasant learning atmosphere (joyful learning). These findings recommend educators to integrate audio-visual technology in the learning of practical worship materials at the Madrasah Tsanawiyah level.

Abstract

Equitable access to Islamic education across various regions of Indonesia continues to face substantial disparities. These inequalities are reflected in significant differences in budget allocation, the availability of educational facilities and infrastructure, and the degree of policy support at the local level between madrasahs and public schools. This study aims to analyze the influence of educational planning regulations and the dynamics of budgetary politics on efforts to achieve equitable access to Islamic education at the regional level. This research adopts a qualitative approach with a policy study design. Data were collected through document analysis of national and regional education regulations, education budget documents (Regional Revenue and Expenditure Budget/APBD and Special Allocation Fund/DAK), as well as official data and publications from the Ministry of Religious Affairs and the Central Bureau of Statistics. Data were analyzed comprehensively using content analysis and public policy analysis techniques. The findings reveal that although educational planning regulations have normatively incorporated the principle of equity in access, the implementation of budgetary politics at the regional level still demonstrates systematic priority biases that tend to disadvantage Islamic education. The study also identifies a lack of synchronization in roles and authorities between local governments and relevant ministries in implementing affirmative policies. Furthermore, education budgeting schemes have not been fully based on the actual needs of Islamic education institutions, as they remain dominated by technocratic formula-based approaches and political considerations. Based on these findings, this study recommends strengthening binding affirmative regulations on budget allocation, improving policy synchronization and coordination between central and local governments, and shifting toward education planning and budgeting models oriented toward equitable access and performance accountability.

Abstract

The development of social media has brought significant changes to educational practices, including the delivery of Islamic Religious Education (IRE) materials. Social media is no longer merely a means of communication, but has evolved into an alternative space that facilitates the distribution, reinterpretation, and reproduction of IRE materials in the digital realm. This article aims to analyze how Islamic Religious Education materials undergo transformation when produced and disseminated through social media timelines. This study uses a qualitative approach with a literature review, through a systematic review of literature relevant to Islamic education and digital media. The results of the study show that this transformation is evident in changes to the form and format of PAI material, which tends to be more concise, visual, contextual, and responsive to current issues. In addition, social media also influences the pattern of material production, in which not only formal educational institutions play a role, but also digital actors who present PAI material in various styles of communication. This transformation expands access to religious learning, but at the same time presents pedagogical challenges in the form of material fragmentation and the potential simplification of teaching substance. These findings confirm that social media has shaped a new landscape for Islamic education in the digital age. Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen digital and religious literacy so that the transformation of Islamic Education material in the timeline remains in line with pedagogical principles and systematic Islamic scientific traditions.
