Abstract

The new curriculum which is the Merdeka Curriculum is designed to help students develop the numeracy skills they need to succeed in the twenty-first century. The success of elevating students’ numeracy skills depends on teachers’ perception of numeracy as it would impact their teaching method in mathematics learning. This study aimed to explore teachers’ perceptions of numeracy in mathematics learning in the Merdeka curriculum. A case study and purposive methodology sampling were employed in this qualitative research method. The subjects are six classroom teachers in one public elementary school in Kebumen Regency, Central Java. The research data were collected by interviews, observations, and documentation. It was analyzed by interactive technique done by collecting data, data reduction, data presentation, and pull conclusion. This study realized it was essential to build numeracy skills from early grades. They had a fair understanding of how important it is to prepare for the national assessment. However, they were missing a crucial point in which the focus on numeracy was to improve the quality of mathematics learning, yet teachers had a misunderstanding and did numeracy drills as a separate part of mathematics learning. Teachers were unaware of “AKM Kelas” and how helpful it could be to help them to teach at the right level. This study’s findings contributed to stakeholders to reflect and conduct intensive workshops for teachers to escalate their performance in designing learning environments that enrich students’ numeracy skills.

Abstract

The rapid development of science and technology produces consequences on the challenges that will be faced by students. Students need to develop 21st-century skills that include the ability to think critically, creatively, communicatively, and collaboratively. These skills can be obtained through the learning process, but in fact, in the field, there are still many teachers who adopt conventional learning models and tend to be teacher-centered. This kind of learning has an unfavorable impact on students' creativity, activeness, and critical thinking. This can be overcome by using the RADEC learning model. This research aims to find out the learning process that uses the RADEC model to increase student participation and student activeness in learning to foster 21st-century skills. This research uses the systematic literature review method with the PRISMA 2020 model. The 2020 prism model is used to assess the systematic review. The data collection process uses Google Scholar with a range of years 2019-2023. Data searches were carried out with the keyword Use of the RADEC Model in Elementary Schools. The results showed that 21st-century skills are crucial for students to have in facing the progress of modernization now. From the use of the RADEC model, the 21st-century skills that are improved include critical thinking, creativity, communication, and cooperation. In addition, the main challenge of RADEC model learning is if there are students who are not good at reading because the initial syntax of this model is reading. Students are required to be good at reading as an initial capital in finding information. Another challenge is that teachers must be able to analyze well related to the objectives and factors that affect the success of learning. It is hoped that this research can provide new knowledge for readers and can also be used as a reference in using the Radec learning model in schools.

Abstract

Learning environments should be where constructive and self-regulated learning is fostered. Teachers should transform their mathematics classes into something more challenging and fun while building students’ numeracy skills and learning character. Self-regulated learning is a learning character that students must have to become agentic life-long learners in an unpredictable, dynamic, and ever-changing society. This study aimed to describe students’ self-regulated learning on the division algorithm with a fair-share method. This was descriptive qualitative research using the case study method conducted in six weeks. The subjects of this study are ten students in grade four. The data sources were collected from self-regulated learning scales and students’ learning activity observation sheets. The data was analyzed through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. This study unveiled that a teaching division algorithm with a fair-share method could nourish students’ self-regulated learning. Proven that only 20% of students had moderate levels of self-regulated learning; 50% of students had high levels of self-regulated learning; and 30% of students had very high levels of self-regulated learning. Furthermore, the average score of self-regulated dimensions was classified as very good. The fair-share method also impacted students’ behavior to be excited in learning and exposing them to mathematical modeling through the dividing candies activity.

Abstract

The ability to think critically in the 21st century is a skill that must be possessed by every individual. This study, uses a UbD-based problem-based learning model with a conventional learning model to see which learning model has more influence on the critical thinking ability of grade IV students in science subjects. The UbD approach was chosen to be a supporter in the implementation of the problem-based learning model because it is considered to have the same goal, which is to provide students with a deep understanding to encourage students to be more active in the learning process which also encourages students to think critically. The research method used in this study is quasi-experimental. Researchers used all students in class IV A totaling 25 students as the control class and IV B totaling 32 students as the experimental class. The experimental group was given UbD-based problem-based learning model treatment while the control class was given conventional model treatment. The results showed that the experimental class with UbD-based problem-based learning model treatment was superior to its post-test value compared to the control class. The findings of this study can help teachers or instructors to find a suitable learning model that has a deep impact on students so that students can improve their critical thinking skills, which is a must-have ability in the 21st century.

Abstract

Food insecurity affects every aspect of student development. Cultivating food security through education can be implemented through the culturization of food security in nature schools, and it is encouraged to be managed at the elementary level. Research relating to differences in the influence of nature school management on food security has not yet been found. This research aims to analyze the differences in the influence of general and Islamic school management on the culturization of food security. This research used a quantitative approach with a multivariate analysis of variance method using SPSS software. Data were collected using questionnaires of 20 items consisting of three aspects: school policy, learning activity, and student engagement. The participants were 28 principals and representatives in 15 nature elementary schools in West Java Province, Indonesia. The respondents were chosen from a population of nature elementary school principals using purposive sampling. The sampling encompasses the distribution of nature elementary schools based on types of school management and their distributive location. The result of the multivariate test shows a value of 0,260 0.05. This result means that different types of school management have an insignificant impact on the culturization of food security. The weakest aspect is school policy, with a mean score of 15.93, while learning activity and student engagement obtain a mean score of 27.25 and 27.50 for each. These findings imply that school policy in nature elementary schools must be improved to support a food security culture.
