Abstract

Islamic education is currently faced with complex challenges, both internal and external. The problem is how Islamic education is able to respond to the challenges and demands that arise due to these factors. Islamic education needs to seek a strategy so as not to be left behind in formulating a relevant curriculum and able to compete with the demands of changing times. The purpose of this study is to provide information regarding the challenges and demands faced by contemporary Islamic education and strategies to respond to them through curriculum development. This article is included in a qualitative study based on library research. The results show that the challenges faced by Islamic education today come from the internal and external areas of Islamic education. The internal challenges that must be achieved by Islamic education are the achievement of eight national education standards, the growth of Indonesia's population which grows the demographic bonus, and character issues. Islamic education is required to prepare human resources in accordance with the demands of the competence of the times so as to produce alumni who survive and are able to compete in the era of globalization. The external challenges facing Islamic education are more future-oriented challenges. Among them, Islamic education is required to prepare for future needs, relevant to community problems, advances in technology and information, the growth of the creative and cultural sector, and the internationalization of education such as World-class University.

Abstract

This paper aims to explain the implementation of the establishment of ma'had al-jami'ah UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang as a form of implementing the integration of higher education and Islamic boarding schools. This paper uses a descriptive-analytical approach. The technique used by researchers in collecting data is through library data and field observations. This paper complements the shortcomings of previous studies, the previous studies examine the integration of pesantren (boarding school) and university in 3 models; first, a study on the trend of pesantren establishing a university to increase religious knowledge called ma'had 'aly. Second, the Islamic boarding school, an attempt by pesantren to establish a university in the pesantren environment. The third, the efforts of university (PTKIN) are philosophically and conceptually concerned in the integration of science and religion which are implemented in the integration between university and pesantren. This study explains practically the development of the integration of Islamic higher education and pesantren/ma'had as a model of formal institutions capable of realizing the needs of newer system education. Development of the integration between Islamic Universities and Islamic boarding schools which produces superior scholars, mastering science, and technology (IPTEK) but it should not ignore the aspects of faith and piety (IMTAQ).

Abstract

Ahmad Dahlan was a figure who believed in modern thoughts. He raised awareness of the religious community to dare to think openly to new views, thoughts, and cultures through the modernization of Islamic education and da'wah. Ahmad Dahlan also encouraged religious communities to got out of the trap of poverty and ignorance, as well as the snares of imperialism that occurred in the early 20th century in Indonesia. His reform thinking in the field of religious education was the most prominent in his efforts to integrate Islamic sciences with modern knowledge and culture. This article describes Ahmad Dahlan's thoughts on Islamic education with the educational concept of Paulo Freire called "conscientization" critical awareness. Freire said that the main purpose of education was to liberate society from oppressive colonialism and structural poverty. This article is a research paper with a literature review approach that focuses on the discussion of the modernization concept of Ahmad Dahlan's Islamic education in the perspective of Freire's critical awareness. This manuscript concludes that through the modernization of Islamic education, Ahmad Dahlan has raised critical awareness of the religious community to got out of the shackles of poverty and ignorance, as well as the prison of imperialism.

Abstract

Humans are living currently in a global and multicultural era made easy with the advancement of Science and Technology, especially  Digital Technology that affects lifestyles and human behavior in all aspects of life. Islamic education plays a strategic role in preparing good people who are always serving Allah and benefiting others, especially in preparing a righteous people whocan surf in complexity, chaos, and turbulences. In this study, the authors research how the opportunities and challenges of Islamic Education in the global and multicultural era in preparing a righteous people who can surf in the global and multicultural era. This research with a qualitative approach, use a type of Library Research with descriptive methods. The results of the research show that Islamic Education has strategic opportunities to contribute and give solutions, especially for millennials to increase their faith, by enhancing the understanding, appreciation and human experience in practicing Islam. With the hope of helping them to become Muslim who have a strong faith and devotion to Allah SWT and have a noble character in their personal lives, society, nation, and state in the global and multicultural era. The challenges of Islamic Education demanded to adjust to the progress of the 21st century learning trends and Muslim educators have the necessary skills for the 21st Century. Including Islamic educational institutions need to hold a variety of innovations and creations in the face of a time that is changing rapidly and full of uncertainty, to continue to exist and be able to provide excellent service for the peoples.

Abstract

The An-Nashr method is a program owned by NU Pakis Islamic Junior High School to facilitate the students in learning to read Al-Quran properly and correctly while understanding the meaning contained in it by memorizing the Al-Qur'an verses translation. This research aimed to describe the implementation of the An-Nasr Method to improve the memorizing ability of Al-Quran verses translation of NU Pakis Islamic Junior High School Students. This research used a descriptive qualitative approach. The results of this research: 1) Implementation of the an-nasr method to improve the memorizing ability of Al-Quran verses translation of NU Pakis Islamic Junior High School Students through several processes, namely planning and implementation. In planning, an initial test is carried out on students which aims to facilitate class grouping based on students' ability to read Al-Quran. Then in its implementation, it follows the An-Nashr method manual in the learning process. 2) The improvement of students' ability to memorize the translation of Al-Quran verses can be seen from the student learning journal notes. 3) Learning Evaluation of the an-nasr method implementation can be done by means of an assessment of student memorization, a warning to a supervising teacher.

Abstract

Religious moderation has become a new trend upon conflict and intolerance resolution among religious communities, especially in Indonesian universities. This paper aims to explain the process of implementing religious moderation to enhance appropriate socio-religious attitudes and religious tolerance at Universitas Merdeka Malang. It is a case study with an in-depth interview followed by observation and documentation study. This study finds that the implementation of religious moderation is carried out in 3 stages, namely (1) coordination meetings of lecturers in the religious study forum (RSA) to discuss lecture material, (2) Preparation of RPS or Rencana Pembelajaran Semester or syllabus by including religious moderation material, (3) applying religious moderation through (a) religious education lecture, citizenship education, and religious enrichment. (b) off-campus classroom through (i) students’ religious activity units (SAU), including Jubilee SAU (Christian), Loyola SAU (Catholic), Alhuda SAU (Islamic) and Dharma WTC SAU (Hindu). Non-Muslim religious activities can be carried out at the mosque since this is the center of worship building on campus, (ii) activating a student’ council Instagram account for broadcasting information about religious moderation, and the existence of local cultures to represent national commitment and accommodative attitudes towards local cultures.

Abstract

As a religious and fanatical ethnicity, Madura's people has practiced the values of the Madura’s character which has been and has become an identity for a long time, an attitude of resignation, courtesy, and empathy. The distinctive Maduran character does not escape the influence of a kiai as the main character in the nyabis tradition who historically and in reality is an expert in religious science and is very influential for the Madurese community. The purpose of this study is to find out the values of Islamic character in the nyabis tradition and how people internalize these values in everyday life. This research is a qualitative research type of phenomenological study, the methods for collecting data are interviews (semi structured), participant and non-participant observation, and documentation. To process data: data reduction, data presentation, data verification. The research findings show that the values of Islamic character in the nyabis tradition are the values of aqidah, ubudiah and ahlakul karimah values. These three values then become a norm that is commonly used as a basis in everyday life.

Abstract

The world has been shocked by the outbreak of a virus called Corona or often referred to as Covid-19 (Corona Virus Diseases-19). This virus began to endemic for the first time in Wuhan City, the capital of China's Hubei Province and the transmission of this virus spread very quickly throughout the world, including Indonesia. The Corona outbreak has greatly affected all sectors, both in the economic, social and educational sectors. The impact of this Corona virus pandemic in the field of Education is very significant. This is evidenced by the totality of changes in the learning process or teaching and learning activities both in institutions and non-formal. In non-formal institutions, the impact of the pandemic occurred, one of which was in institutions that held the Tahfidzul Qur'an program. The learning process of the program must also adapt to the conditions that occurred during the COVID-19 pandemic, namely the online teaching and learning process, in this case via the Whatsapp application. This study uses a qualitative approach with the type of literature Library Research while the method used is descriptive. The results of this study indicate that the learning problems of the Tahfidzul Qur'an program occur during a pandemic which includes the limitations of internet access that occur in certain areas, signal services that are also not maximized, limited mastery of technology media experienced by some teachers and students as well as management less efficient and good time. This problem resulted in decreased morale, laziness, and boredom for students who took part in the program.

Abstract

Professional competence is one of the four competencies that must be possessed by teachers. Efforts to increase professional competence as a teacher's performance certainly do not stand alone, but have a conducting factor. This study identified and tested some of these conducting factors. Three factors were tested in this study: education and training, activeness in professional organizations, and writing and publishing scientific papers. The study used a survey approach. The target population is teachers who take part in the Teacher Professional Education (PPG) program in office, as many as 150 people. The sample was obtained by simple random sampling determined at 30% or a number of 60 people. Data collection using a questionnaire, distributed via google forms. Data analysis techniques using computer assistance with software SmartPLS 3.2. The research findings obtained from hypothesis testing explain that: 1) The education and training factor has a significant and positive influence of 23% on efforts to improve teacher professionalism; 2) The active factor in professional organizations has a significant and positive influence of 28.5% on efforts to increase teacher professional competence; 3) The factor of writing and publishing scientific papers has a significant and positive influence of 28.5% on efforts to increase teacher professional competence. Therefore, educational organizations can consider this finding so that they always pay attention to the factors that lead to efforts to increase teacher professional competence.

Abstract

Inequality that occurs in this life is caused by poor human character. Efforts to equip generations with character education continue to be a concern. The purpose of this research is to reveal; (1) the form of reconceptualization of Islamic-based character education in the Singapore Perdaus institution, (2) the influencing factors, and (3) the impact or implications. The approach used is qualitative, the research data is information about character education in the Perdaus Singapore institution, the data analysis is descriptive-qualitative. The findings of this study are (1) the concept of character education in the Singapore Perdaus institution is implemented in the form of character education through the al-Quran, kurban activities, early childhood education, and character education for youth, (2) there are two influencing factors, namely; External factors include government support, public awareness, well-established community conditions, and high intensity of career women. As for the internal factors in the form of competent human resources, open institutions, and innovation and adequate facilities, (3) the positive impact is the strengthening of public trust in Islamic institutions, the birth of a cultured generation of advanced society, and the opening of job opportunities. The conclusion of this study shows that the values of universal Islamic character do not conflict with the life of developed societies.
