Abstract

The Creative Writing Course is one of the curriculum components with the potential to develop students' creative thinking skills, particularly in the Islamic Library and Information Science Study Program at UIN Raden Intan Lampung. This study aims to explore the role of the Creative Writing Course in developing students' creative thinking abilities. Using a qualitative approach, this research employed structured interviews with eight student informants who had completed the course. Data were analyzed using thematic analysis. The findings indicate that the Creative Writing Course significantly contributes to the development of students' creative thinking skills, as evidenced by progress across the stages of pre-writing, drafting, discussion and feedback, and revision. The recursive nature of the writing process encourages students to develop their ideas flexibly and deeply. The main obstacles faced by students include limited ideas, time management challenges, and the minimal writing culture in the academic environment. This study affirms that structured, process-based creative writing instruction can be an effective strategy for fostering creativity among library science students.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of local wisdom corner services in preserving Batak culture at the University of North Sumatra (USU) Library. The research method used is qualitative with a case study approach through interviews, observations, documentation and literature review. The results of the study indicate that cultural preservation is carried out through collection management, distribution, physical preservation of library materials of Batak cultural collections and even efforts to digitize the collection. The process of preserving Batak cultural knowledge is carried out through six stages, namely identification, validation, documentation, storage, transfer, and dissemination. The preserved cultural collections reflect the cultural dimensions according to Hofstede, which include symbols, figures, rituals, and values. However, there are several obstacles that cause this service to be less than optimal, such as limited collections, lack of collaboration, the absence of SOPs and the lack of cultural programs or promotions. This study confirms that local wisdom corner services can be a model for university library-based cultural preservation that not only functions as a collection provider, but also as a manager and disseminator of indigenous knowledge. Therefore, policy support, collaboration with cultural institutions, and sustainable service development are needed so that cultural preservation can run more optimally.

Abstract

Research on children's literacy services through kids corners generally focuses on spatial design and service activities, while functional analysis of children's library services in the context of university libraries is still relatively limited. This study aims to analyze the implementation of kids' corner services as a children's literacy innovation at the UPT Library of UIN Fatmawati Sukarno Bengkulu through an adaptation of the children's library service framework according to Akanwa (2013). The study used a qualitative approach with data collection techniques through observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation of the managing librarian and teacher accompanying literacy activities. The results show that the kids' corner service not only functions as a provider of children's reading collections, but also as a space for early literacy learning that integrates the provision of information, development of reading skills, formation of cultural knowledge, and participatory learning about library utilization. However, optimization of collection diversity and program consistency are still needed to strengthen the sustainability of the service. This study offers conceptual novelty through the adaptation of the children's library service framework to the context of university libraries and systematically mapping the implementation of children's literacy services as a service evaluation model. Practically, the research findings provide a basis for developing a kids' corner service model that is more structured, sustainable, and has the potential to be replicated in other university libraries.

Abstract

Tacit knowledge is a strategic organizational asset in the form of individual experience, expertise, and intuition that is difficult to manage due to its implicit and contextual nature. Previous studies have extensively explored knowledge management practices, but limited attention has been paid to understanding the preservation of tacit knowledge within organizations. This article aims to systematically identify the forms of tacit knowledge managed by organizations, their preservation mechanisms, and the challenges organizations face in implementing such management and preservation. The research method used was a Systematic Literature Review (SLR), which examined reputable scientific articles relevant to the theme of tacit knowledge management and preservation in organizations. The PRISMA method was used to select articles, resulting in 33 articles relevant to the research objectives. The results indicate that tacit knowledge in organizations generally takes the form of practical experience, individual insights, technical skills, and community insights. Management and preservation are carried out through informal sharing mechanisms, mentoring, formal training, the use of technology, and Communities of Practice (CoP). However, the management and preservation of tacit knowledge face various challenges, particularly related to a lack of organizational support, a lack of trust between individuals, difficulties in standardization, ineffective use of technology, rigid bureaucracies, and limited organizational resources. This study offers novelty by integrating forms of tacit knowledge, preservation mechanisms, and organizational challenges into a unified analytical framework, highlighting the importance of a socio-technical approach to maintaining organizational memory. The results provide theoretical contributions to advancing knowledge management literature, as well as practical implications for organizations in designing adaptive strategies to preserve strategic intellectual assets in dynamic environments.

Abstract

Scholarship information is time-sensitive, detailed, and closely related to educational decision-making, requiring digital media that can present information clearly, relevantly, and accessibly. This study analyzes the Instagram account @info_beasiswa as a medium for fulfilling scholarship information needs from the perspective of Media Richness Theory. The novelty of this study lies in applying Media Richness Theory to a popular Instagram account specifically dedicated to scholarship information in the context of educational information needs. This research employed a descriptive quantitative approach involving 100 followers selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using a four-point Likert-scale questionnaire consisting of 23 items and were supported by observation, documentation, and brief interviews with the account manager. The analysis focused on four dimensions: immediacy of feedback, multiple cues, language variety, and personal focus. The findings show that all dimensions were in the very high category, with multiple cues obtaining the highest grand mean score (3.53), followed by language variety (3.45), personal focus (3.39), and immediacy of feedback (3.31). These results indicate that @info_beasiswa mainly supports followers’ information needs through varied content formats, visual presentation, clear language, and relevant scholarship content, although rapid interpersonal feedback remains the least dominant dimension. This study contributes to library and information science by showing how Instagram can function as an intermediary information source for recognizing, understanding, and following up scholarship opportunities.

Abstract

The library at State Senior High School 1 Bandar Surabaya has a floor area of 150 square meters and features areas such as book shelves, reading tables, and a visitor registration desk, as well as a computer lab located near the library. In general, the library’s floor area meets national library standards. However, the collection size still falls short of the minimum standard 360 titles compared to the required minimum of 1,000 titles with a student population of 287. This study aims to analyze the use of the library as a learning space in developing a culture of literacy among students at SMA Negeri 1 Bandar Surabaya. This study used a qualitative approach, with data collection techniques through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results indicate that the library has been utilized as a source of information, a place for independent and group study, and a space for student literacy activities. This utilization is supported by the library's comfortable physical condition and the role of teachers in guiding students to utilize the library in the learning process. However, the research findings also indicate that library utilization remains at a functional stage, namely as a provider of learning resources and activity space, and has not yet fully developed into a literacy space that encourages critical thinking and in-depth information processing. Furthermore, limited technological facilities and policies restricting device use create a paradox: the library serves as a primary source of book-based literacy, but is not yet optimal in supporting students' digital literacy. Theoretically, this study contributes to strengthening the understanding that library utilization as a learning space is a process that depends not only on the availability of facilities, but also on the integration of physical space, learning activities, social interactions, and structured pedagogical support. These findings point to the development of a gradual model for school library utilization, moving from its basic function as an information provider to a more integrative role as an active and contextual literacy learning space. Thus, this research has implications for strengthening school-based literacy ecosystems by optimizing the library's role as a center for learning and developing students' literacy culture.

Abstract

The phenomenon of sharenting, the practice of parents sharing information about their children on social media, has become increasingly prominent in global discourses on child privacy, digital ethics, and online parenting. While previous studies have extensively addressed the risks of sharenting, there is limited research explaining how educated mothers transform knowledge about privacy, ethics, and digital parenting into everyday sharing practices, particularly in non-Western contexts. This study aims to understand how graduate students who are also mothers internalize knowledge about sharenting and translate it into concrete practices on social media. The study used a descriptive qualitative approach with in-depth interviews, observation of Instagram posts, and documentation of six purposively selected informants. The results show that sharenting decisions tend to be reflective and negotiated through considerations of benefits, risks, emotions, social norms, and cultural and religious values. Informants displayed implicit forms of privacy literacy through strategies such as obscuring children's identities, limiting audiences, setting accounts to private, and delaying posts. These findings also demonstrate that subjective norms in sharenting practices are shaped not only by family and friends, but also by local values such as the concepts of ‘ain and pamali. Theoretically, this study extends the Theory of Planned Behavior in the context of non-Western digital parenting and demonstrates that the transformation of knowledge within the Knowledge-to-Action framework is not always linear. Practically, these findings emphasize the importance of privacy literacy and digital ethics that are sensitive to cultural context. However, because this study only involved six informants from a single institution, the findings are contextual and not intended to be broadly generalized.

Abstract

A presidential election is an important national event where people use their right to vote as a form of their participation in affording a legitimate national leader. Santri is part of the community to vote in the 2024 Presidential Election. Santri are a community group that lives in an environment with distinctive characteristics such as a limited social environment, restrictions on the use of gadgets, and great obedience to kyai. This research aims to explore the students’ behavior in retrieving the information they need to vote in the election, to find out both the internal and external aspects that influence them in making their decisions. This research involves 67 informants taken from the students of Al Imdad Top Islamic High School, who have the right to vote in the 2024 Presidential Election. Data collection is done by asking open questions concerning the aspects of information searching, such as information sources, information search, information evaluation, and information use. Then the data are analyzed in 3 steps: coding, identifying the theme, pattern, and relation, and summarizing the data. The research result shows that basically the santri (students) have performed the four important aspects of information seeking but in different level of implementation. Limited access to electronic information plays a role in the process of gathering information about the presidential election. Therefore, human information sources in the santri environment, such as kyai and teachers become an alternative source and consequently, these figures influence santris in making decision. Although the students evaluate the information provided by these figures, it is less critical than it should be. This study ultimately found that santri have participated in the democratic process in Indonesia, but on the other hand, santri still need to have information literacy skills to ensure that they are able to search for, evaluate, and use information to participate in civic engagement, so that in making decisions they are not influenced by authoritative figures, but rather depend more on authoritative information sources.

Abstract

University library service effectiveness is heavily influenced by the psychological dynamics and quality of interaction between librarians and users. However, limited human resources often lead to high workloads and emotional fatigue, reducing responsiveness during peak hours. This study analyzes university librarians' attitudes toward circulation and reference services and identifies their underlying factors using Icek Ajzen’s Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) framework. Employing a qualitative descriptive method, data were gathered through direct observations, in-depth interviews with librarians at the Institute of Informatics and Business (IIB) Darmajaya Bandar Lampung, documentation, and data triangulation from the library’s suggestion box reports. The integration of TPB indicators reveals distinct behavioral patterns: under attitude toward the behavior, librarians successfully cultivate a welcoming environment through standard greeting courtesies; however, excessive workloads and multitasking significantly diminish service responsiveness during peak periods. Under subjective norms, structured guidance from superiors and a collaborative peer environment serve as vital social pressures that enforce librarian professionalism. Regarding perceived behavioral control, continuous professional training provided by the Indonesian College Library Forum (FPPTI) serves as an essential external resource that enhances librarians' emotional regulation and self-efficacy when handling diverse user characters. The study concludes that while structural constraints impair operational speed, social support and professional training effectively reinforce positive psychological controls and professional attitudes in library services.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze book borrowing patterns at the Library of the Faculty of Economics and Business, National University using the Apriori algorithm. The analysis was conducted on borrowing transaction data to identify relationships among book categories that are frequently borrowed together. The dataset consisted of 68 borrowing transactions covering 11 book categories. Although the number of transactions was relatively limited, the data were selected based on the availability of complete borrowing records during the observation period and were considered sufficient to identify initial borrowing patterns. The results reveal several significant patterns. The “Management” category obtained the highest support value of 40%, indicating that it was the most frequently borrowed category, while the rule “Management → General Management” achieved a confidence value of 70%, showing a strong tendency for both categories to be borrowed together. These findings demonstrate that the Apriori algorithm can effectively identify user borrowing preferences from circulation data. This study contributes to the development of data mining applications in library science, particularly in the use of association analysis to support evidence-based library management. The findings may assist librarians in optimizing collection arrangement, developing recommendation systems, and improving collection development strategies. Furthermore, this study highlights the potential of transaction data analysis as a practical approach for understanding user information needs in academic libraries.
