Abstract

This study aims to see the histopathology of muscle corvus cavernosum penis wistar rats (Rattus novergicus) hyperlipidemia seen in terms of thickness and picture of tissue abnormalities. Hyperlipidemia is a risk factor for erectile dysfunction ateriosklerosis in men. This research is an experimental research with one group prettest - posttest design. Samples in this study were 10 adult male aged 3-4 months wistar rats with a weight range 150-200 grams. Prior to treatment, surgery was performed for histopathology of 5-tailed rat samples at pretest. After that, sample were made with hyperhidemia by feeding fat for 50 days. Then performed surgery for histopathological preparation of corvus cavernosum muscle in posttest. The results showed that the thickness of the corvus cavernosum of the penile mouse of hyperlipidemia decreased significantly (P?0,05) when compared with the pretest group. In the histopathologic picture occurs muscle atrophy and the existence of abnormal structures of fibrotic and collagen tissue.

Abstract

The aim of this research was to investigate the impact of terasi, a traditional Indonesian condiment which is made from salted fermented seafood, on the sensory acceptance of beef consommé. Fifty four panelists compared the acceptance of beef consommé containing rebon terasi to the consommé containing fish terasi. The results showed that upon adjusting the salt content, the consommé containing rebon terasi was more preferred than the consommé containing fish terasi. By combining more strong spices or ingredients the acceptance of consommé might be improved while masking the pungent odor of terasi. In addition, six different types of rebon terasi varying in proximate composition, salt and water activity (aw) were added to beef consommé and were evaluated by 10 trained panelists for their specific intensity of taste/flavor (saltiness, sourness, sweetness, bitterness, umami, fishy and rebon). Together with those samples, other consommés were also compared; however, the salt was also added to adjust with the highest salt content among six types of terasi. The results showed that variations of terasi influenced the sensory characteristics of consommé. The salt content of rebon terasi influenced the sourness, bitterness and saltiness in consommé, whilst the salt content should also reach the certain level to fit their acceptance. The distinct flavor from each terasi did have a profound effect on the sensory acceptability. The knowledge of the flavor characteristics of consommé and the role of terasi when mixed in consommé will help to improve the sensory acceptability and marketability of terasi.

Abstract

Research on the exploration and identification of phosphate solvent fungi has never been carried out in West Bali National Park (TNBB), therefore researchers aims to explore and identify microscopic fungi to be used as phosphate solvent fungi which later will be taken from each plant soil samples (Lantana camara) that the presence is very common in TNBB. The research was implemented in two stages. The first stage is exploration of soil fungi in the field (TNBB) and identification of fungal species and the second stage is the phosphate solvent fungus test on Pikovskaya media. The results of the identification of the fungi obtained as follow: Aspergillus niger, Aspergillus bertholletius, Aspergillus flavus, Aspergillus isolate 4, Aspergillus isolate 5, Penicillium citrinum, and Trichoderma amazonicum. From the entire types of fungi obtained, there are onlybfour fungi that have the potential as phosphate solvents, namely Aspergillus niger, Aspergillus flavus, Aspergillus bertholletius and Penicillium citrinum with the presence of clear zones on Pikovskaya media. Fungi that has the best potential in the process of phosphate dissolution is Aspergillus niger. Key words: Rhizosfer, Lantana camara, clear zone, phosphate solvent fungus

Abstract

This study aims to determine the side effects of high-dose injections of vitamin C in a long term against liver histology. This study used a completely randomized design (CRD) with different long treatments of vitamin C injection in various doses of P0 (control), P1 (30 days injection), P2 (50 days injection), P3 (70 days injection) and P4 (90 days injection). Parameters measured were plasma levels of SGPT and SGOT, the percentage of hydropic degeneration,  fatty degeneration, pyknotik nuclei, and necrosis of liver cells, and also inflammatory cell infiltration and sinusoid congestion. SGOT levels showed a significant differences (P=0,009) between the treatment and control group by ANOVA test. The Kruskal Wallis test showed that ALT levels were not significantly different (P=0,86), however, the levels of creatinine showed significant differences (P=0,002). The hydropic degeneration were not significantly different (P=0,054) by Kruskal Wallis test, whereas the fatty degeneration were significantly different (P=0,000) between the treatment and control groups by ANOVA test. Pyknotik nuclei and necrotic cells showed significant differences between the control and treatment with the P value of 0,016 and 0,01 respetively. The injected white vitamin C in high doses for long periods decreased the physiological functions of female mice liver.

Abstract

Sodium nitrite (NaNO2) is a food preservative that is often added to processed meat products. Excessive consumption of NaNO2 can be detrimental to health. One effort to minimize the negative effects caused by NaNO2 is by consuming antioxidants. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of Eucheuma cotonii seaweed extract on improving blood profile, liver and kidney function in male white rats (Rattus norvegicus) induced by NaNO2. This research used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) consisting of two control groups and three treatment groups. Each group consists of six replications. Negative control (K-) receive aquades and CMC NA 0,5%. Positive control (K +) was only received 22.5 mg/kgBW NaNO2 for 35 days then on the day 36 until the day 45 only given 0,5% CMC Na. The treatment groups P1, P2, and P3 respectively on day 1 to day 15, only received 22.5 mg/kgBW NaNO2 in the morning, and then day 16 to day 35 received 22.5 mg/kgBW NaNO2 in the morning and received 150 mg/kgBW (P1), 300 mg/kgBW (P2), 450 mg/kgBW (P3) Eucheuma cottoni seaweed extract in the evening. Day 30 to day 45, the treatment groups only received Eucheuma cottoni seaweed extracts at each dose. Blood and liver were collected on day 46. Data analysis of serum alanine transaminase (ALT) and aspartate aminotransferase (AST) enzyme levels and liver histology were performed with Anova statistical test and continued with Duncan post hoc test. The results showed Eucheuma cottonii extract dose of 150 mg / kgBB significantly reduced the level of liver damage seen from the levels of ALT and AST and liver histology (percentage inflammatory cell infiltration, congestion, fatty degeneration and necrosis) in white rats induced by sodium nitrite (NaNO2). Abstract

Pollination is the most important live processes for plant especially for seedling plant. Some previous research results show that insects play an important role in helping the pollination process both in wild plants and in productive plants. The eggplant (Solanum melongena L.) is one of the important agricultural commodities. However, the eggplant production in the local farming system today often experiences obstacles when its production is not in sufficient quantities. The potential of Apis cerana L. as a pollinator is a chance solve the productions problems. The purpose of this study was to determine the role of honey bees (Apis cerana L.) in increasing yield of eggplant (Solanum melongena L.).This study obtained the eggplant productivity data. All data was collected and analyzed with SPSS 17 statistical program. Before analysis, all data normality were tested and it was analyzed by One-way ANOVA and when significant differences were found, analysis was continued with the Tuckey Test to find out the difference within treatment with a significance value ???? <0.05 .The results of this study note that bees have a certain amount of time to carry out their activities and the addition of bees colony to the experimental field produced two times more of yield compared with the other groups that were not treated with he colony.
