Abstract

The study aim was to determine the resistance of Escherichia coli to antibiotics that isolated in laying hens. A total of 100 samples of chicken feces were taken from Tabanan, Bangli and Karangasem districts. E. coli were isolated and identified by Carter (1990) method, followed by a bacterial susceptibility test with agar diffusion method from Kirby Bauer against antibiotics namely oxytetracycline (30 µg), ampicillin (10 µg), streptomycin (10 µg), sulfamethoxazole (30 µg), chloramphenicol (30 µg), and kanamycin (30 µg). The obtained data compared to the next sensitivity standard of the bacteria that classified as sensitive, intermediate, and resistant. The results showed that E. coli from chicken feces are sensitive to kanamycin, whereas the other antibiotics are intermediate or resistant. The increase in resistance is in line to the age of the chicken.

Abstract

There have been studies of the histological structure of male and female goat skins. The histological structure and histomorphometry were taken from two region of skin, which is the thorax and abdomen. The Samples were collected from 2-3 years old Etawah goat, and than was stained using a HarrisHematoxilin Eosin method. The data were analysis based on the region and sex. The results showed that the histological structure of Etawah cross breed consists of three layers were epidermis, dermis, and hipodermis respectively. The epidermis composed by stratum corneum, granulosum, spinosum, and basal. We were found keratin layer on the surface of epidermis. The dermis consists of papillare and reticulare stratum. That was found many sebaceous glands, sudorifera gland, pili muscle, hair follicles, blood vessels, and collagen fibers. The hypodermis layers of Etawah cross breed females skin mostly consists of the fatty tissue, whereas in males we have found thick and horizontally arranged connective tissue. The skin layer on male Etawah cross breed, thorax region thicker than the abdomen. The region and sex may have an effect on the histology structure and histomorphometry of Etawah cross breed skin.

Abstract

This study aims to prove that the Moringa leaf extract can improve renal histological structure of diabetic Wistar rats. Wistar rats were divided into six groups, so that each group has four replications. K1 as the positive control was not given the extract, K2 was administered the extract dose 100 mg/kg, K3 was administered the extract dose 200 mg/kg, K4 was administered the extract dose 300 mg/kg, K5 was administered the extract dose 400 mg/kg, K6 was administered the extract dose 500 mg/kg. The administrations of extract were held for five weeks. Rats then sacrificed and the kidneys were taken for the histopathology preparations with Hematoxylin-Eosin staining (HE). The observations indicate fatty degeneration and necrosis of the kidneys. Kruskal Wallis test results of all treatments showed p = 0.001 in both fatty degeneration and necrosis (p <0.05).

Abstract

Fracture is one of the cases that may occur in pets, especially dogs and cats. The principle to treatment cases of fracture is repositioned and immobilized in the area of ??the fracture. Large bone damage due to trauma can inhibit healing process and cause bone defects, so that graft material is needed to stimulate the healing process and to fill in the missing bone. This research was aimed to study radiographic imaging in the use of pig’s bone as graft material for the treatment of fractures in dogs. Eight male dogs aged 3-4 months were used in this study and were divided into 2 groups randomly. Group I (control) was 2 dogs who their bone diaphysis femur was drilled with a diameter of 1 cm without giving graft material. Group II was 6 dogs who were drilled as Group I and were given a graft material. Monitoring the progress of healing process by rontgent, was conducted at 24 hours, 2nd week, 4th week and 8th week post-surgery. Radiographic analysis showed that there has been a unification and mineralization of bone fragments in the 8th week post-surgery in the group II with bone density already seemed normal.

Abstract

Echocardiography is one of the health diagnostic techniques of cardiac organ by utilizing high-frequency sound waves that are non-invasive, safe, fast, and easy to do. This echocardiography study aims to observe the structure, position, and size of cardiac organ in the three species of phyton (Sanca), namely Sanca batik, Sanca bodo, and Sanca bola. The cardiac organs were imaged using ultrasonography of brightness mode with a 10 MHz linear type transducer and using a water medium as an ultrasound gel. Snakes were handled and restrained physically, without the use of sedation or anesthesia. The position of the cardiac organ is measured by the number of the ventral scales, while the size of the cardiac organ is measured by the sum of the number of ventral scales. The results indicate that the position of the cardiac organ is at the number 55-77 ventral scales, while the size of the cardiac organ ranges from 12-13 ventral scales. The position of the cardiac organ on Sanca batik tends to be more anterior than Sanca bodo and Sanca bola. Ultrasonographic in longitudinal standard view shows the cardiac parts of the sinus venosus, right atrium, left atrium, cavum arteriosum, cavum venosum, cavum pulmonale, pulmonary artery, and aorta. Whereas in transversal standard view shows parts of cavum venosum, cavum pulmonale, cavum arteriosum, and aorta. The muscle of the cardiac organs has a gray (hypoechoic) echogenicity with a blood vessel that appears to be black (anechoic). While the more clayey’s cardiac tissue appeared as white color (hyperechoic).

Abstract

Lactic acid bacteria (LAB) is a group of Gram-positive bacteria, in shape of coccus or bacilli and catalase-negative and also have the ability to produce lactic acid. LAB is also a microorganism which is not toxic and has the ability to produce antimicrobial compounds, known as bacteriocins. This research aimed to find out the physicochemical characteristic and the antimicrobial activities of bacteriocin isolated from isolates 15B originated from the bali cattle’colon. This study began by reculturing of isolates 15B and followed by cultivating the isolates, isolating, producing, and precipitating of bacteriocins. The physical and chemical properties of the bacteriocins were also tested before, antimicrobial activity test was conducted. The result of the cultivation showed that isolates 15B is a lactic acid bacteria characterized by the result of Gram staining as a Gram positive, catalase negative and grown on anaerobic condition. The result of chemical test, showed that bacteriocins producing isolates 15B were positive on Ninhydrin test, negative on Molisch test, and positive on Lowry test with 0,11 µg/ml concentration. Physical properties test using SDS PAGE showed negative result and antimicrobial activity test showed that the bacteriocin from isolates 15B has 35,82% effectiveness of inhibition.
