Abstract

This study examines linguistic strategies in conveying women's empowerment messages through social media, specifically Instagram and YouTube. This study combines women's language theory by Robin Lakoff and presupposition theory by George Yule. The method used is descriptive qualitative with purposive sampling technique, focusing on posts and statements that contain elements of women's empowerment. The results show various features of women's language such as lexical hedges, intensifiers, and empty adjectives, as well as various types of presuppositions such as existential and factive presupposition, which implicitly reinforce empowerment narratives. This study shows how language on social media can shape powerful social discourses about women's identities and struggles.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the application of the Time Token learning model of students' speaking skills in Indonesian language subjects. The method used in this research is descriptive method with mixed research type of leatherative and quantitative. The research subjects were students of class VIII H SMP Negeri 9 Palu totaling 32 people, selected through simple random sampling technique. Data collection techniques used included observation, and documentation. The instruments used consisted of teacher and student activity observation sheets, as well as assessment of students' speaking skills through student learning outcomes data. The results showed that the teacher observation sheet was classified as very good, the student observation sheet also showed very effective results with a value of 91%, while the data on student learning outcomes in speaking skills reached 83 with a good category. These findings indicate that the application of the Time Token model is able to encourage equal distribution of speaking opportunities, increase student courage, and support active and structured speaking skills.

Abstract

This study explores how English language skills are used as a strategic tool by beginner content creators in the digital era, particularly in the Banyuwangi region. Using a qualitative approach and case study design, the research involved ten content creators from platforms such as YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation. The results show that although most participants have basic to intermediate English proficiency, they still use English for writing captions, video descriptions, and engaging with global audiences. The main challenges they face include limited vocabulary, grammatical difficulties, and low self-confidence. Despite these barriers, they show strong motivation to learn and express the need for more relevant and practical English training. This study contributes by providing a clearer picture of how English proficiency can support the professional growth of local content creators and act as a bridge to wider global opportunities. It also highlights the importance of contextual and need-based English education that aligns with the realities of the digital content industry.

Abstract

This study aimed to explore the impact of infographics on cognitive enhancement in English Language students. Infographics, as a visual medium that combines text and images, are believed to simplify the understanding of complex concepts and improve long-term memory retention. This research adopted a quantitative approach with a field experiment involving two groups of students: an experimental group taught using infographics and a control group taught with conventional methods. Data were collected through cognitive tests before and after the intervention, as well as surveys measuring students’ perceptions of infographics. The results showed that the use of infographics significantly enhances students' understanding of concepts and memory retention in English courses. These findings supported the hypothesis that visual media, such as infographics, can be an effective tool for enhancing cognition in students, particularly in the context of English education. The study also highlighted the importance of integrating visual technologies in learning to stimulate more active and in-depth cognitive interaction.

Abstract

The Independence curriculum provides various skills – listening, reading, speaking, and writing. However, many students lack motivation to learn speaking due to inadequate ideas, lack of self-confidence, and uninteresting learning media. On the contrary, motivation has a crucial role in English learning. This study aims to find out whether digital storytelling can increase learners' motivation to learn to speak. The method used is a descriptive case study. The research participants were 36 learners of Class X Social 1 in a private Islamic senior high school, Central Java, Indonesia. Data were collected by using close-ended questionnaires and focus group interviews. The research results showed a significant improvement of learners’ motivation in learning speaking after using digital storytelling. The questionnaire results showed that students' intrinsic motivation is higher than their extrinsic motivation. It can be proved that 55.56%-66.67% of students agree and 11.11%-22.22% of students strongly agree with all statements about intrinsic motivation in learning speaking. Interview results showed that learners' intrinsic motivation in learning speaking is high. Therefore, digital storytelling can increase students' motivation to learn to speak.

Abstract

Many university learners from non-English department have difficulties during the TOEFL preparation program. This research aims to evaluate the implementation of the TOEFL preparation program in an Indonesian University based on context, input, process, and product. The research participants were a TOEFL instructor and 121 management students in the seventh semester. This research was evaluation research. The research instruments were online observation, checklist, and one-on-one interview. The results indicated that the TOEFL preparation program had not fulfilled the context because there was no curriculum in the TOEFL preparation program. Then, the input was good because the instructor used the structured lesson plan, the TOEFL books, the TOEFL software, structured schedule, qualified human resource, and clear budget. The process was moderate because the instructor could explain the materials clearly, gave questions-answers and exercises to check students’ understanding of the material, but he still used teacher-centred learning. The product was in low category. Most students’ TOEFL scores were under 400. The researcher suggests that the instructor designs the TOEFL curriculum, uses student-centred learning, encourage learners to participate actively in the class, uses team teaching, emphasize vocabulary, and give more exercises to improve the quality of the TOEFL preparation program.

Abstract

One definition of deep learning is a strategy that prioritizes key knowledge application and conceptual comprehension. The goal of the research is to offer both theoretical and practical support for creating deep learning strategies that work in elementary school settings, particularly when it comes to teaching English. Observations, interviews, and an engineering triangulation approach are among the qualitative techniques employed. Teachers and elementary school pupils made up the study subjects. Through data reduction, data display, and conclusions, the gathered data is examined. The results of the study show that the application of Deep Learning to mathematical studies has a positive effect on students' understanding. This method encourages students' active involvement through various interactive activities, such as simulations and experiments, making the learning process more meaningful and enjoyable. However, the application of this method is also faced with a number of challenges, such as limited time to complete the curriculum and uneven access to technology among students

Abstract

This study aims to determine the character education values articulated in the Malin Kundang short story using Abraham Maslow Hierarchy of Needs theory with the Narrative Policy Framework (NPF) Analysis Framework, focusing on 18 character education values described by the Ministry of Education. The method used in this research is a qualitative descriptive method. The main data source used in the story is Malin Kundang. The analysis results revealed significant differences in the realization of values between Malin Kundang and his mother, underscoring the idea that achieving material success without moral integrity can lead to personal destruction. The innovative application of Abraham Maslow theoretical framework reveals Malin Kundang's psychological conflict between pursuing social needs and family ties. At the same time, the NPF analysis explains how narrative components effectively convey character education values. The results showed 7 data points of character education values, namely Discipline, Hard Work, Independence, Curiosity, Religious, Responsibility, and Friendship/communicative. This research contributes to the study of literature and character education by establishing a theoretical framework for the analysis of folklore that serves as an effective medium for character education, as well as suggesting the advancement of balanced moral competence.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the application of word chain games in learning English vocabulary and its impact on the involvement of students in class XI-S7 at MA Miftahul Ulum Bettet Pamekasan. The research method used is descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques through observation, interview, and documentation. The results showed that the word chain game was able to increase students' active participation during the learning process, help strengthen the memory of the vocabulary that had been learned, and create a fun and interactive learning atmosphere. In addition, this method also makes students more enthusiastic and confident in using new vocabulary. Thus, word chain game can be considered as an effective alternative strategy in English vocabulary learning at MA level. The use of this method is highly recommended to improve the quality of teaching-learning process which does not only focus on memorization, but also involves students actively.
