Abstract

The study examined the effect of Google Classroom on students' grammatical competence. The experiment was followed by a test. The group that received therapy was the experimental group, whereas the control group received no treatment. Using SPSS, the T-test was used to determine if the pre- and post-test scores of the control and experimental groups differed significantly. The results of the investigation were 1). the pre- and post-test mean scores for the control and experimental groups differ considerably. This indicates that the use of Google Classroom greatly improved students' Ekonomi Syariah performance in present grammar from excellent to very good. 2). the post-test mean scores of the control and experimental groups vary significantly. The usage of Google Classroom had a considerable impact on the test performance of the experimental group in particular.

Abstract

This study aims to delineate the structural form of the story in H.P. Lovecraft’s Color Out of Space considering from the author biography, the social structure of New England and word view of the author toward the short story. The social structure of short story becomes the genetic or origin of literary work. The analysis of this study applied Lucien Goldman’s genetic structuralism and descriptive qualitative method. The data were gathered from H.P. Lovecraft biography, the social condition of New England society in 1920s, and the view of the author toward the condition of New England society in Color Out of Space. The study found out that Lovecraft view the condition of New England after world war two and the earthquake in New York to delineate the horror, cosmic and color story.

Abstract

This research aimed at finding out the students’ barriers in writing class and the advantages of using LENTERA as the LMS platform of Islamic State University (UIN) Alauddin Makassar in writing class during Covid-19 pandemic. This research employed a qualitative method with 9 participants from English and Literature Department students. The data were collected by using in-depth interview and documentation, then it was analyzed by using Miles and Huberman theory. The results of this research showed that English and Literature students who learned writing courses by using LENTERA application had several barriers such as network problems, difficulty in understanding the lesson, and inaccessible application. In addition, the advantages encountered by English and Literature students in writing course by using LENTERA application were facilitating the process of teaching and learning, facilitating the students in submitting the assignment, and providing accessible file storage. The researchers recommended that LENTERA features should be enhanced and the teachers should organize the material in attractive way so that during the teaching process the barriers can be reduced.

Abstract

This research focuses on analyzing the young adult instagram users’ punctuation error on their instagram story. This present research uses qualitative design and the type is content analysis. The subjects of this research are taken from instagram users who belong to young adult instagram user and the researcher using snowball. This research employs documentation as the instrument of the study to collect the data. The findings of this research provided into 10 points; the researcher finds that there are 10 kinds of punctuation errors which are made by the young adult instagram users, they are (1) exclamation mark, (2) capital (capitalization), (3) period (full stop), (4) comma, (5) apostrophe, (6) question mark, (7) inverted comma (quotation mark), (8) ellipse, (9) hyphen, and (10) colon. The percentages of each error are exclamation mark 40.1%, capital (capitalization) 25.2%, period (full stop) 20.5%, comma 6.7%, apostrophe 2.3%, question mark 2.3%, inverted comma (quotation mark) 0.8%, hyphen 0.5%, colon 0.5%, and colon 0.2%. The findings of this study indicate that the most common punctuation error made by the young adult Instagram users was exclamation marks with a percentage of 40.1%.

Abstract

This study aims to find out how students' perceptions of learning English use google classroom media during the Covid-19 pandemic and to find out what are the inhibiting factors experienced by students d[1]uring the learning process of English using Google Classroom media.This type of research uses a qualitative approach, in data collection techniques the researcher uses the methods of observation, interviews, and documentation.Informants in this study were students of class XI. 1 TKJ and English teacher at SMK YPPP WONOMULYO.Based on the results of observations the conditions of the implementation of English language learning in the Pandemic Covid-19 are very different when the learning process carried out face-to-face where the teacher's English learning process no longer explains the material directly but the teacher uses the Google Classroom media as a forum to carry out the learning process for students then the interview process was carried out by researchers through Google Form.The results of the study stated that the majority of class XI students. 1 TKJ SMK YPPP WONOMULYO has a negative perception of online learning English. This is in accordance with the answers of students who said they preferred face-to-face learning because it was easier to understand and learning through Google Classroom experienced many obstacles, for example network connections were often bad or constrained by internet quotas. Then the students said the learning outcomes were unsatisfactory and less understood and unattractive. Then the inhibiting factors experienced by students are unstable networks, sometimes Google Classroom errors, inadequate quotas and lack of understanding of the material presented and lack of socializing with teachers and students.

Abstract

Learning a language requires a large range of vocabulary in its language to position a learner on the communication level. Consequently, teaching vocabulary is spotted as important since it is becoming a key component of language proficiency and as basis of learners to develop their listening, speaking, reading and writing. Media in teaching vocabulary becomes significant as media existence is to help teachers to deliver the topic and help learners to easily understand the topic. There are many types of media available, and video is one of them. The recent study focuses on students’ perceptual experience on using video in learning English vocabulary at the 10th grade students of SMA Oikoumene in Manokwari, Papua Barat Province, and the hindrance faced by students. Therefore, to meet the aims, a questionnaire and an open-ended question were employed to collect the data from 23 participants filled the questionnaire and 10 participants interviewed. There were 20 items on the questionnaire which grouped into three themes namely general information related to the use of video in learning vocabulary, using video support students’ learning, and video motivate students. The data presented that the score of each theme was 3.00 which categorized as positive, and the biggest obstacle faced by students were the unstable internet networking and run out of credit. Finally, the use of video in teaching English at SMA Oikoumene Manokwari has to be kept up due to support and motivate students learning.

Abstract

Digital Reading is one of the options in the context of online learning to stop the Covid-19 virus from spreading since the Covid-19 pandemic has forced schools and colleges to close. The purpose of this study is to describe how students perceptions about learning English using digital reading  when the Covid-19 pandemic is occurring. This study employed a descriptive quantitative methodology. 40 of 6th semester students from English Education Study Program, Guide and Counseling Study Program and Early Childhood Teacher Training Study Program of Universitas Muhammadiyah Palopo, Indonesia were participants. To get data, a questionnaire about student perceptions of the practicality of digital reading was issued as a Google form. According to the study's findings, the majority of students are enthusiastic about the use of digital reading. it is thought to be more helpful and effective in supporting learning activity.

Abstract

This article represented the study of pragmatic to investigate directive act. The purpose of investigation is to find out the types of directive acts on movie “Joker 2019”. The researchers applied theory ofAllan (1997)about directive act. The researchdesignpresented in  the qualitative method.In collecting the data, the researchersappliedobservational method and note-taking technique. In analyzing the data,the researchers applied pragmatic identity method and classify technique by sudaryanto. In the analysis, the researchers found the types of directive speech act. This research had 15 data from types of directive speech acts which was separated into requestives (4 data), requirements (2 data), questions(2 data), prohibitives (2 data), permissives (1 data) and advisories.

Abstract

During an online learning environment, students organize and develop their ideas in writing using Google Docs, and they hold their online consultation through the comment section. The research aims to explore students’ perspectives towards Google Docs in writing classes. A survey method using a quantitative approach was employed to collect data for this research. The researcher composed a questionnaire consisting of 17 questions and an interview as the instrument of this research to explore EFL students’ perspectives regarding Google Docs and distributed it to 24 students in a Seminar on ELT D of the English Language Education Program at Universitas Brawijaya. After processing the findings of the questionnaire using SPSS ver. 25.0, the researcher found that the students of the Seminar on ELT D project had a positive perspective towards Google Docs in writing class. As an alternate writing tool in online learning, Google Docs can be useful to students. However, students prefer using face-to-face for consultation or employing synchronous learning, such as video conferencing, to assist students in better grasping how to develop and arrange their thoughts.

Abstract

The researchers identified types of commissive act that used in Fatherhood Movie that released in June 2021. This research used Yule’s and Searle’s theory to analyse the data. The research was conducted using qualitative research theory by creswell (2017). The researchers used observational technique to collect the data using Sudaryanto (2015). This research got the data from watching Fatherhood movie. From the results of this analysis, the researchers found 15 data divided into 6 types. There are 6 types for offering, 3 types for refusal, 2 types for promising, 2 types for guarantee, 2 types for threatening, and the last 1 type for volunteering. It can be concluded that the most common use of commissive act in the Fatherhood Movie is offering, while the least is volunteering.
