Abstract

This study examines the communities in four countries—Indonesia, Iran, Pakistan, and Malaysia in Beyond Belief: Islamic Excursions Among the Converted Peoples, which portrays Muslim Through the character of "I," who evolves into an authoritative narrator, Naipaul seeks to justify the representations in the narrative as reflections of his own perspective. Despite the often negative depictions of Muslim societies in these countries, Naipaul aims to document aspects of the Muslim community that have remained unrecorded. His efforts to make Islam 'readable' are evident throughout the work, yet they evoke a sense of powerlessness among those subjected to such portrayals, who are unable to voice their own narratives. From a da’wah studies perspective, the implications of this research lie in critically assessing external narratives that marginalize Muslim voices. By deconstructing these representations, this study highlights the importance of reclaiming an authentic Islamic identity and countering misrepresentations. Furthermore, it invites reflection on how da’wah can respond to external narratives, promoting a more accurate and fair understanding of Islam in a fragmented global society.

Abstract

Artificial intelligence (AI) has made tremendous progress, and it is not surprising that its influence has also penetrated the realm of religion, which has had a significant impact, where AI technology has opened the door to new developments in spreading religious messages or da'wah. This study aims to analyze how AI can be used to analyze and predict patterns of community behavior in da'wah and how the results of the analysis can be used to improve the effectiveness of da'wah. The research method used is qualitative with a library approach. Data were collected from literature studies and documentation and using thematic analysis techniques. The results of this study show that the analysis and prediction model for community behavior, created with machine learning techniques and AI algorithms, can gather and examine data from different online sources like social media, discussion forums, and religious websites to understand how people behave when they receive and respond to da'wah messages. For example, AI-based chatbots can be used to answer questions about fiqh quickly and consistently, helping to reach mad'u who are reluctant to attend physical assemblies. Furthermore, da'wah strategies using AI can be carried out by segmenting the audience, personalizing messages, optimizing time, and using positive and inspiring content. However, AI in the preaching strategy should be used as a medium to help the effectiveness and efficiency of preaching activities, considering the limitations of the use of AI in preaching.

Abstract

Mosques are vital faith-based organizations (FBOs) that significantly contribute to the spiritual, social, educational, and economic welfare of communities—not only in Muslim-majority countries but also in regions where Muslims are minorities. While traditionally centered on worship, mosques today have evolved into multi-functional institutions that address diverse community needs. This study examines the historical roles of mosques from the era of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) through the Caliphates to the modern era, highlighting current challenges and strategies for empowerment, particularly in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. Using a qualitative approach, data were collected from 425 participants across eight prominent mosques in major Indonesian cities through surveys, observations, interviews, and secondary sources. Key findings reveal that mosques play an essential role in promoting moderate Islam, social cohesion, and inclusive community services. During and after the pandemic, mosques adapted by expanding digital outreach, enhancing women's participation, and launching economic and health initiatives. The study underscores the strategic importance of revitalizing mosques as inclusive, resilient institutions that foster both religious devotion and community empowerment. Insights from the Istiqlal Mosque in Jakarta demonstrate best practices that may inform mosque development globally.

Abstract

The Islamic Guidance and Counseling Study Program implements the MBKM curriculum by integrating inclusive and contextual cultural and da'wah values, where the MBKM policy demands adaptive and contextual curriculum innovation. The differences in cultural backgrounds between UIN Prof. K.H. Saifuddin Zuhri Purwokerto (Javanese culture) and UIN Sultan Aji Muhammad Idris Samarinda (Dayak and Malay culture) are an opportunity to develop a curriculum based on cultural integration and da'wah. This study aims to explore the adaptation of the MBKM curriculum of the Islamic Guidance and Counseling (BKI) study program based on cultural integration and da'wah. This study uses a qualitative approach with a phenomenological method. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation studies of study program managers at both institutions. The results of the study indicate that the implementation of the MBKM curriculum based on cultural integration and da'wah in the BKI Study Program at UIN Saizu Purwokerto and UINSI Samarinda can broaden students' horizons in understanding the socio-cultural dynamics of society. This curriculum encourages students to be more sensitive to the local context in counseling and da'wah practices, and to develop an inclusive and contextual approach. Cultural integration in the curriculum not only improves students' cross-cultural competence but also strengthens local wisdom-based preaching strategies that are relevant to the spirit of MBKM.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role and dakwah strategies of Islamic religious counselors in enhancing the religiosity of women in the Al-Hidayah Taklim Assembly. The research focuses on how religious counselors utilize various methods of da'wah to educate, guide, and strengthen the understanding and practice of Islamic teachings among women. A qualitative approach was employed in this study, with data collection techniques including in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation. The main informants in this research were religious counselors, while key and additional informants included taklim assembly participants, administrators, and local religious leaders. The findings reveal that religious counselors play a central role in motivating and guiding women to better understand and practice Islamic teachings through various da'wah methods, such as lectures, memorization, question-and-answer sessions, and personal mentoring. These regular and intensive da'wah strategies have proven to improve the religiosity of women, strengthen social bonds among the congregation, and enhance the quality of their worship. Additionally, support from families, local government, and religious leaders plays a significant role in facilitating the work of religious counselors. However, challenges such as weather conditions and psychological factors of the congregation need to be addressed to further enhance the effectiveness of da'wah. The implications of this study suggest that well-planned and continuous da'wah can have a significant impact on creating a more religious community, especially among the women of the Al-Hidayah Taklim Assembly.

Abstract

This research examines the impact of product and service quality on customer satisfaction within the context of Islamic aqiqah and catering services, integrating a da'wah (Islamic outreach) perspective. Aqiqah services hold significant religious importance in Islamic culture, serving not only as commercial enterprises but also as vehicles for preserving and promoting Islamic traditions. Customers often encounter challenges regarding product and service quality in the marketing process, which directly affects their satisfaction levels. This study employs a quantitative research method with data analysis conducted using SPSS software. Primary data were collected from 72 customers using simple random sampling from a population of 264 customers who have utilized aqiqah and catering services, while secondary data were obtained from service provider documents. The findings reveal that product and service quality collectively explain 24.5% of customer satisfaction variance (R² = 0.245), with the remaining 75.5% attributed to other variables not examined in this study. Specifically, the t-test results indicate that service quality significantly influences customer satisfaction (t = 4.604, p < 0.05), while product quality does not show significant impact (t = 0.082, p = 0.935). The F-test confirms that both variables together significantly affect customer satisfaction (F = 11.366, p < 0.05). These results suggest that customers prioritize service excellence over product attributes when evaluating religious-based services, indicating that da'wah through exceptional service delivery can enhance both commercial success and religious mission fulfillment in Islamic business enterprises.
