Abstract

Al-Qur’an menceritakan banyak kisah binatang, salah satunya semut, sebagaimana termuat dalam QS. al-Naml ayat 18-19 dengan kalimat qālat namlatun (قَالَتْ نَمْلَةٌ).

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

This study investigates the diverse formats and categories of publications available for digital translations of the Holy Quran. Given the Quran's significance in Islam, its translation into various languages is vital for non-Arabic-speaking Muslims and scholars worldwide. The research delves into traditional printed translations, such as pocket sized editions, comprehensive annotated versions, and parallel text formats, comparing them to digital translations available in e-books, mobile applications, and online platforms. The study also examines the unique challenges posed by translating the Quran, including the preservation of its linguistic and theological nuances in different languages and mediums. By analyzing these aspects, the paper aims to shed light on the evolving methods of disseminating Quranic translations, emphasizing the balance between accessibility and the faithful representation of the sacred text. In this modern era, we cannot deny that the development of electronics is rapidly increase and has an impact on social life, even in this modern era we can get everything easily, including the model and type of digital Qur'an translation publications in the 5.0 era, this phenomenon raises several questions regarding the validity of the translation in the digital Qur'an model, is it in accordance with the provisions of the Indonesian LPMQ (Lajnah Pentashihan Mushaf al-Qur’an)? How does the birth of the digital Qur'an form of expression affect the study of the Qur'an in Indonesia? This article argues that these Qur'ans express interactivity in religion. The study of the model and type of Qur'an translation publications in this digital era aims to test the validity of the Qur'an translation.

Abstract

This article seeks to reevaluate the concept and distribution of social assistance as a means to achieve distributive justice. Utilising the Tafsīr Maqāṣidī approach — an interpretation that reflects God's intentions—this study reconstructs the principles and methods of distributing social assistance to effectively realise distributive justice. The primary focus is on Qur'an Surah Al-Hashr [59]:7, which delineates the guidelines for distributing wealth collected by the government, referred to as al-Fai’. The findings indicate that the distribution of al-Fai’ in the form of social assistance is designed to prevent the concentration of wealth among affluent groups, ensuring that resources are shared with the poor and marginalised (ḍu‘afā’), thereby mitigating societal inequality. From the perspective of Maqāṣid al-Sharī‘ah, the provision of social assistance aims to safeguard religion (ḥifẓ al-dīn), life (ḥifẓ al-nafs), and the state (ḥifẓ al-Dawlah). Furthermore, social assistance embodies principles of justice (al-‘adālah), humanity (al-Insāniyyah), equality (al-Musāwāh), freedom (al-ḥurriyah), and responsibility (al-Mas’ūliyyah). Consequently, it is deemed unacceptable for the distribution of social assistance to be exploited for personal gain or to secure public office. Additionally, applying the Tafsīr Maqāṣidī approach in this context demonstrates how the maqāṣidī -based normative framework can evaluate the ethical soundness of government-initiated programs like social assistance. This research contributes to developing public policy by using the tafsir approach, in this study using Tafsīr Maqāṣidī.

Abstract

This research departs from the growing tendency of state-affiliated institutions across various parts of the world to engage in the production of Qur’anic interpretations. Through the production of these interpretations, the involvement of state institutions as discourse actors becomes evident, highlighting their role in the contestation of religious authority within Qur’anic exegesis. Therefore, the central focus of this study is to examine how textual structures, cognition, and social context shape the interpretations produced by three state institutions: Tafsir Ilmi by the Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs (Kemenag RI), Tafsir al-Muntakhab by the Egyptian Ministry of Religious Affairs, and Tafsir al-Muyassar by the Saudi Ministry of Religious Affairs, particularly regarding the understanding of figurative language in QS Al-‘Ankabūt verse 41. This research is qualitative in nature and employs a library-based study. The primary data consist of the interpretations of QS Al-‘Ankabūt verse 41 from Tafsir Ilmi (Indonesia), Tafsir al-Muntakhab (Egypt), and Tafsir al-Muyassar (Saudi Arabia), analyzed using Teun A. van Dijk’s critical discourse analysis approach. The findings reveal that each institution presents a distinctive exegetical style aligned with its respective state ideology and vision of Islam: Tafsir Ilmi emphasizes the integration of science and religion within a framework of moderate Islam; Tafsir al-Muntakhab conveys religious messages through a rational and educational approach; whereas Tafsir al-Muyassar delivers messages of pure monotheism in a clear and normative manner.

Abstract

The translation of the Qur'an into regional languages such as Mongondow faces both linguistic and theological challenges, particularly when rendering theological verses that contain the concepts of “the Hand” and “the Power of Allah,” which carry the risk of anthropomorphic interpretations. This study aims to identify the translation problems of such verses in the Mongondow Qur'anic translation, with a focus on the accuracy of theological meaning and the relevance to local cultural contexts. Employing Anthony H. Johns' theory of vernacularization, the research analyzes translated texts through a library research method, structured interviews with religious and cultural figures, and descriptive-analytical analysis with theoretical triangulation. The findings indicate that the Mongondow translation tends to adopt a literal approach—for instance, translating yadullāh as lima (hand)—which poses a risk of theological misinterpretation, although in certain verses a metaphorical equivalent such as nonguasa (having power) is used. This inconsistency highlights linguistic, ideological, and epistemological challenges in preserving the Qur'an’s transcendent meanings. The study concludes that Qur'anic translation requires a more nuanced hermeneutic approach involving experts in exegesis and local culture. The academic contribution of this research lies in advancing the discourse on vernacularization in Qur'anic translation studies, offering an analytical framework applicable to other regional languages, and providing practical recommendations to enhance theological accuracy while preserving local cultural identity.

Abstract

This study investigates the Qur’anic concept of divine justice as it relates to inheritance distribution and the role of women in legal testimony, areas often debated for their gender-specific rulings. While these provisions may appear to privilege men, this research explores the underlying rationale that integrates social roles, economic responsibilities, and ethical principles within Islamic jurisprudence. According to Islamic teachings, the objective is to elucidate how these distinct legal norms contribute to a balanced and just society. Employing a Qur’anic semantic analysis, the study focuses on key verses from Surah ’Al-Nisā’ [4]: 11 , 176 and Surah Al-Baqarah [2]:282, supplemented by classical and contemporary interpretations and the maqāṣid al-shariah framework emphasising justice and social harmony. Findings reveal that the Qur’anic guidance aims to establish justice by recognizing equality in dignity while differentiating rights and duties based on social and financial roles. For example, the unequal inheritance shares reflect men’s broader financial obligations to family stability, and testimony rules prioritise evidentiary reliability over gender bias. The study concludes that the Qur’anic justice model balances individual rights with collective responsibilities, fostering social cohesion and challenging simplistic views of discrimination. This research contributes to scholarly discourse by clarifying the ethical and jurisprudence foundations of gender-specific legal provisions in Islam.

Abstract

The global climate crisis poses a serious threat to human sustainability that cannot be solved by technology alone. This article explores how thematic interpretation (tafsīr mawḍūʿī) of the Qur'an can help raise ecological awareness and responsibility, focusing on the environmental philosophy of Seyyed Hossein Nasr. Using a qualitative descriptive approach based on library research, the study analyses selected Qur'anic verses related to environmental ethics. It also reviews Nasr’s critique of modernity and his call to re-sacralise nature. The findings show that the Qur'an encourages environmental stewardship and ethical responsibility, while Nasr’s spiritual cosmology provides a strong theological basis for an ecological ethic grounded in the Qur'an. The study concludes that combining thematic Qur'anic interpretation with Nasr’s insights offers a comprehensive framework for addressing the climate crisis within Islamic thought. Additionally, institutional support, academic traditions, and digital platforms are essential to effectively promote these ecological values in contemporary Muslim communities.
