Abstract

Language can perpetuate gender bias. The formulation of language in media coverage also strengthens, soothes, even injustices against women in society, including actresses. The purpose of this research is to find and describe the variety of gender bias language in the reporting of post-divorce actresses. This research includes a qualitative descriptive study. The data source for this research is media coverage which is limited to news about post-divorce actresses. The data taken is in the form of gender biased news titles and contents. In collecting data using the read-read method, supported by orthographic techniques. Furthermore, the data were analyzed using constructivism analysis in sociolinguistics. The results of this study indicate that there are still media that place divorced actresses as news objects that are sexy and gender biased. The variety of language gender bias appears in the form of diction, phrases and sentences. These various forms of language can position women as sexual objects, such as various metaphors that refer to women's bodies, diction and sentences that point to the meaning that women are the cause of household breakdown, as well as various languages ​​in the form of labeling women or stigmatization.

Abstract

Penguatan SDM unggul di perguruan tinggi tidak lepas dari proses pembelajaran, termasuk pembelajaran menulis artikel ilmiah. Kualitas sebuah artikel ilmiah dapat dilihat dari konstruksi argumen-argumen yang dibangun penulisnya. Kajian ini bertujuan mendeskripsikan penguatan sumber daya manusia unggul melalui pembelajaran menulis artikel ilmiah bagi mahasiswa dengan model argumen Walton. Sumber data penelitian ini ialah 25 artikel jurnal mahasiswa dan hasil isian kuesioner. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui teknik baca-catat. Dalam analisis data digunakan model analisis Milles dan Huberman untuk data kualitatif, dan teknik statistik deskriptif untuk data kuantitatif. Hasil penelitian ini sebagai berikut. Pertama, dari 25 artikel jurnal ditemukan sebanyak 26 paragraf berisi argumen pendapat ahli dan 12 paragraf berupa argumen pendapat umum. Dari ke-26 paragraf argumen pendapat ahli itu diidentifikasi adanya 14 paragraf berwujud argumen dasar, 7 paragraf berwujud argumen konfirmasi, dan 5 paragraf berwujud argumen perbandingan. Sementara itu, dari 12 paragraf yang berisi argumen pendapat umum diidentifikasi bahwa terdapat 6 paragraf berwujud argumen teori/konsep, 3 paragraf berwujud argumen dalil/hukum, dan 4 paragraf berwujud argumen analogi. Kedua, berdasarkan sebaran kuesioner diperoleh hasil bahwa pada level C4 sebanyak 38 mahasiswa menyatakan dapat melakukan analisis terhadap model argumen pendapat ahli, sedangkan 26 sebaliknya. Pada tingkat C5, 30 mahasiswa menyatakan dapat membuat evaluasi, sedangkan 34 lainnya menyatakan tidak dapat membuat evaluasi. Pada level mencipta, sebanyak 23 menyatakan dapat merekonstruksi pendapat ahli, sedangkan 41 lainnya menyatakan sebaliknya. Hasil temuan ini dapat dimanfaatkan untuk studi lebih lanjut tentang pembelajaran menulis artikel jurnal bagi mahasiswa dengan model argumen Walton, dapat juga dimanfaatkan untuk meningkatkan mutu pembelajaran.

Abstract

Abstrak Dalam konstuksi sebuah wacana senantiasa terdapat unsur bahasa yang dilesapkan atau dihilangkan penulisnya. Unsur bahasa yang dilesapkan itu bisa berupa kata, frasa, atau klausa yang menduduki fungsi sintaksis tertentu. Kajian tentang pelesapan unsur bahasa Indonesia dianggap urgen mengingat hingga saat ini pola pelesapan bahasa Indonesia belum banyak diwacanakan di dalam kajian-kajian kebahasaan, juga belum dibakukan di dalam tata bahasa baku bahasa Indonesia. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan pola pelesapan unsur bahasa Indonesia, sebuah studi kasus pada kolom opini Kompas. Pengumpulan data penelitian ini memanfaatkan metode simak yang diterapkan melalui teknik baca dan catat. Dalam analisis data digunakan metode analisis konten yang diterapkan melalui beberapa langkah, yakni inventarisasi, identifikasi, klasifikasi, dan deskripsi data. Hasil penelitian ini dideskripsikan sebagaimana berikut. Pertama, dalam kolom opini Kompas ditemukan pola pelesapan berupa kategori. Pada tataran kategori ditemukan pola pelesapan berupa nomina dan verba yang dilesapkan secara kataforis dan anaforis. Kedua, dalam kolom opini Kompas ditemukan juga pola pelesapan pada kalimat koordinatif berupa (1) pelesapan subjek, (2) pelesapan subjek sekaligus predikat, dan (3) pelesapan objek. Ketiga, dalam kolom opini Kompas disibak bahwa pola pelesapan unsur bahasa pada kalimat subordinatif berupa (1) pelesapan subjek pada klausa anak dan (2) pelesapan subjek pada klausa induk. Dalam kasus tertentu, pelesapan pada kalimat subordinatif bersifat lebih kompleks, yakni terjadinya pelesapan subjek pada induk dan anak kalimat, juga pelesapan subjek dan predikat pada anak-anak kalimat. Abstract In the construction of a discourse, there is always an element of language that the author erases or removes. The language elements that are applied can be words, phrases, or clauses that occupy certain syntactic functions. The study of the immersion of elements of the Indonesian language is considered urgent considering that until now the pattern of immersion in Indonesian has not been much discussed in linguistic studies, nor has it been standardized in the standard grammar of the Indonesian language. This study aims to describe the pattern of impregnation of Indonesian elements, a case study in the Kompas opinion column. The data collection of this research utilizes the observation method which is applied through reading and note-taking techniques. In data analysis, the content analysis method is used which is applied through several steps, namely inventory, identification, classification, and data description. The results of this study are described as follows. First, in the Kompas opinion column found a pattern of infiltration in the form of categories. At the category level, there is a pattern of penetration in the form of nouns and verbs which are applied cataphorically and anaphorically. Second, in the opinion column of Kompas, there are also patterns of infiltration in coordinative sentences in the form of (1) subject infiltration, (2) subject as well as predicate infiltration, and (3) object penetration. Third, in the opinion column of Kompas, it is revealed that the pattern of embracing language elements in subordinative sentences is in the form of (1) immersion of the subject in the child clause and (2) penetrating the subject in the parent clause. In certain cases, the impingement of subordinate sentences is more complex, namely the occurrence of the subject and the predicate to the subordinate sentences.

Abstract

Academic literacy encompasses all literacy practices, including the scientific writing skills. This sort of writing requires critical, analytical, and evaluative thinking skills, which are closely linked to the construction of arguments within academic texts. This study aims to analyze students’ academic literacy skills as a pilot study for the development of an instructional module on scientific writing based on argumentation. The type of argumentation used in this study is the witness argument model proposed by Douglas Walton. A qualitative approach was employed through document study. The data sources for this research included the course syllabus and students’ journal article manuscripts. Content analysis was used for data analysis, involving procedures of data collection, reduction, and verification. The research findings are described as follows. First, the Academic Literacy course syllabus was designed to incorporate three competencies at the lower taxonomy levels (C1 and C2), four competencies at the medium levels (C3 and C4), and seven competencies at the higher levels (C5 and C6). Second, the representation of the witness argument type in students’ journal articles included expert opinion arguments, analogy arguments, practical reasoning arguments, fact-hypothesis arguments, exception arguments, and precedent arguments. The results of this pilot study may serve as a foundation for further research, particularly in the development of an instructional module for scientific writing based on the witness argument model.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memerikan nilai-nilai kearifan lokal dalam tradisi lisan Takanab berdasarkan perspektif ekolinguistik. Perspektif ekolinguistik didukung dengan studi etnografi komunikasi. Data penelitian ini dikumpulkan menggunakan metode simak, teknik catat (linguistik). Metode dan teknik itu dipadukan dengan metode percakapan etnografis, teknik rekam (etnografi). Dalam analisis data digunakan metode padan ekstralingual, teknik analisis kontekstual. Berdasarkan analisis data diperoleh hasil bahwa kearifan lokal dalam tradisi lisan Takanab termanifestasi melalui kearifan local berwujud nyata (tangible) berupa batu dan air, kain tenun motif, dan rumah adat; juga melalui kearifan lokal tidak berwujud nyata (intangible) berupa bidal, perumpamaan, petuah, dan syair. Setiap wujud kearifan lokal itu memanifestasikan nilai-nilai luhur yang mencerminkan penghayatan budaya kolektif masyarakat Dawan.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the ellipsis construction or removal of language elements in the discourse about corana virus diseases (Covid-19) in the Kompas newspaper opinion column. The discourses analyzed were sourced from Kompas opinions published from March to April 2020. The method used in data collection was the refer to method (read), which was applied through the note taking technique. The stages of data collection in this study, namely the inventory, identification and classification of data. The method of data analysis in this study is the agih method, which is applied with the technique of fade and replace for direct elements. Stages of data analysis in this study, namely reduction, interpretation, presentation, and discussion of the results of data analysis. The results of this research data analysis show that the ellipsis construction in the discourse about Covid-19 in the Kompas newspaper opinion column consists of the subject ellipsis, the subject ellipsis as well as the predicate, and the object ellipsis in equivalent (coordinative) compound sentences. Meanwhile, the ellipsis compound compound (subordinate) occurs in the function of the subject, both in the child clause (clause) and in the parent clause (parent sentence). Both in equivalent compound sentences and in multilevel compound sentences, the elements in each function are written in words both cataphoric and anaphoric.
