Abstract

Objectives. This study focuses on the horse kick technique in Pencak Silat, aiming to determine the improvement in horse kick skills through the use of a Swiss ball in the single artistic category. Materials and Methods. This research employed an action research method involving 20 students from the Pencak Silat extracurricular program at SMPN 251 Jakarta. A horse kick test instrument, consisting of 20 validated assessment aspects reviewed by three Pencak Silat experts, was used for evaluation. The study was conducted in one cycle comprising eight meetings. Results. The initial test results of the horse kick technique showed that the students had an average score of 87.55. At the beginning of the study, only 4 students (20%) met the success criteria. However, by the end of the cycle, all 20 students (100%) successfully improved their horse kick technique. Conclusions. The findings indicate that the use of a Swiss ball effectively enhances horse kick skills among students participating in the Pencak Silat extracurricular program at SMPN 251 Jakarta.

Abstract

Introduction: This study aims to develop a training model for ura mawashi geri kicking skills specifically designed for karateka aged 13-15 years. Objectives: The research background is motivated by the low effectiveness of ura mawashi geri kicks in karate competitions, despite this technique having high strategic value in martial arts performance. Method: The research methodology employed Research & Development approach using the ADDIE model, conducted at GOR Kelapa Gading, DKI Jakarta, during June-July 2025. The research subjects consisted of 30 karate athletes aged 13-15 years selected through purposive sampling technique with specific inclusion criteria including minimum 2 years karate training experience and absence of injury. The research instrument utilized validated ura mawashi geri kicking skill tests that had been evaluated and approved by martial arts experts. Data analysis employed both qualitative and quantitative approaches, with statistical significance testing conducted using paired-samples t-test and descriptive statistics for central tendencies analysis. Result: The research results demonstrated significant improvement from the pre-test average score of 76.00 to 89.06 in the post-test following the implementation of 15 specialized training models over 8 training sessions. Conclusion: The developed training model proved to be feasible and effective for enhancing ura mawashi geri kicking skills among karateka aged 13-15 years, providing valuable insights for martial arts training methodologies and competitive performance improvement.

Abstract

The accuracy of compound archery shots is influenced by various complex technical factors. This study aims to analyze the direct and indirect effects of drawing strength, horizontal and vertical arm stability, and arrow velocity on shooting accuracy at a distance of 50 meters. The method used is quantitative with an associative causal design through path analysis. The research subjects consisted of 27 compound archery athletes from DKI Jakarta. Data were collected through measurements of drawing strength, arm stability, arrow speed, and shooting accuracy, then analyzed using the Generalized Linear Model (GLM). The results showed that the three technical variables had a significant direct effect on accuracy: drawing strength (β = 0.396; p = 0.025), horizontal stability (β = 0.356; p = 0.042), and vertical stability (β = 0.349; p = 0.045). Arrow speed was also found to be a significant mediator for the indirect effect of the three independent variables on accuracy. The conclusion of this study is that shooting accuracy is complexly influenced by a combination of drawing strength, arm stability, and arrow speed.

Abstract

Background: The development of karate as both a competitive and educational sport highlights the importance of systematic athlete training programs supported by scientific evaluation. However, research in the Indonesian context, particularly at the undergraduate level, has often been limited to descriptive studies, creating a gap between academic research and the practical needs of athlete development. Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate the karate training program at the Student Education and Training Center (Pusat Pendidikan dan Latihan Mahasiswa, PPLM) Universitas Negeri Jakarta while simultaneously mapping the trends of undergraduate theses in the Sports Science Program between 2011 and 2022 through bibliometric analysis. Methods: A quantitative descriptive-comparative design was employed, involving 804 theses as bibliometric data and eight karate athletes as participants in physical fitness testing. Data collection included keyword extraction and network visualization using VOSviewer, as well as standardized field tests for flexibility, speed, muscular endurance, power, and aerobic capacity. Statistical analysis was performed with Friedman and Wilcoxon tests using SPSS version 25. Results: Bibliometric findings showed that “physical activity” appeared 88 times and “sports nutrition” 97 times, confirming their dominance as research themes, while performance-focused topics remained below 20 occurrences. Athlete testing revealed an increase in flexibility from 14.8 cm to 20.9 cm, muscular endurance from 43 to 51 push-ups, and power from 52.0 cm to 59.5 cm in vertical jump. Conversely, speed showed only a marginal change (2.99 to 2.92 s), and aerobic endurance remained stable (46.6 to 46.5 levels). Conclusion: These outcomes suggest that current training methods are effective in enhancing flexibility, muscular endurance, and power but less so for speed and aerobic endurance. The study contributes by integrating program evaluation with bibliometric mapping, bridging academic research and athlete training, and reinforcing the scientific foundation of sports development in Indonesia.

Abstract

Background: Precision sports like archery require high levels of balance and upper limb muscular endurance to maintain bow stability and aiming accuracy. While general strength training is often applied, research specifically investigating targeted physical conditioning methods—such as medicine ball load variations tailored for archers—is still limited. Research Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of medicine ball training on balance and upper limb muscular endurance among collegiate archery athletes. Methods: A total thirty university-level archers voluntarily participated and were randomly divided into three groups: a 3 kg medicine ball training group (MTG), a 4 kg medicine ball training group (MFG), and a control group (CAG), each consisting of 10 participants. A pretest and posttest true experimental design was applied over eight weeks of training. Finding/Results: Both MTG and MFG groups showed significant improvements in balance and upper limb muscular endurance (p < 0.05), while the control group showed no significant changes. However, no statistically significant difference was found between the two experimental groups, indicating that both 3 kg and 4 kg medicine ball loads were similarly effective. Conclusion: Medicine ball training—regardless of moderate load variation—is effective in enhancing archery-relevant physical fitness, particularly balance and muscular endurance. These findings support the integration of medicine ball exercises into archery training programs as a practical and evidence-based strategy. Future studies should examine load progression, gender-specific responses, and long-term performance outcomes.

Abstract

This study aimed to compare the effectiveness of the Girshoot Target Game and Zig-Zag Goal Target training methods in improving futsal shooting skills while considering students’ coordination levels (high and low). The study was conducted at SMK Dinamika Pembangunan I Jakarta using a 2 × 2 factorial experimental design. The population consisted of 107 students who participated in extracurricular futsal activities. Data were analyzed using two-way ANOVA to examine the effects of training methods, coordination levels, and their interaction on shooting performance. The results indicated significant differences in shooting skills between students trained using the Girshoot Target Game method and those trained using the Zig-Zag Goal Target method. Significant differences were also found between students with high and low coordination levels. Furthermore, a significant interaction effect was observed between training methods and coordination levels on shooting performance. The Girshoot Target Game method was found to be more effective for students with high coordination, whereas the Zig-Zag Goal Target method was more beneficial for students with low coordination. These findings suggest that the effectiveness of shooting training methods depends on players’ coordination abilities. Therefore, futsal coaches should consider coordination levels when designing training programs to maximize shooting performance and skill development.
