Abstract

The Kepok Unti Sayang variety is a superior type of banana that is resistant to fusarium wilt. The high demand for Kepok Unti Sayang needs to be balanced with good seed production. One of the methods used for multiplying superior seeds of Kepok Unti Sayang is through tissue culture. This research aims to obtain the optimal concentration of Naphtaleine Acetic Acid (NAA) in the subculture media for the growth of root numbers in the Kepok Unti Sayang Banana. The second objective is to determine the optimal concentration of Benzyl Amino Purine (BAP) in the subculture medium for shoot number growth in Kepok Unti Sayang bananas. Another goal is to identify the best treatment combination that can produce the highest number of shoots in Kepok Unti Sayang bananas. The research was conducted at the Laboratory of Plant Physiology and Biotechnology at Sebelas Maret University from February to July 2025. The study was conducted with 4 levels of NAA treatment: 0; 0.5; 1; and 1.5 ppm. The BAP treatment was administered at 4 levels: 0; 1; 2; and 3 ppm. The variables observed in this study were the time of shoot emergence, number of shoots, time of root emergence, root length, and final height of the planlet. Data from each variable were then analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA) with an F-test at a significance level of 95%. Significantly different data were then followed by Duncan's Multiple Range Test (DMRT) at a significance level of 95%. The significant combination of NAA and BAP on the observed variables was then reanalyzed using regression tests. The results showed that the application of various concentrations of NAA does not affect the growth of the number of roots of Kepok bananas var. Unti Sayang. The application of 2 ppm BAP is optimal for the growth of the number of shoots of Kepok bananas var. Unti Sayang. The interaction between 1 ppm NAA and BAP at 1-2 ppm produces the most optimal average shoot emergence time.

Abstract

Abstract. Rahayu M, Yudono P, Indradewa D, Hanudin E. 2019. The diversity and physiological activities of weeds in land cultivated with various corn cultivars and fertilized with various nitrogen doses. Biodiversitas 20: 622-628. Both weeds and corn have nutrient needs. Nitrogen is one of the essential elements required by weeds and corn. Each corn cultivar and weed also has different ability to absorb nitrogen. This study aimed to determine the effect of corn cultivar and nitrogen dose on the diversity and physiological activities of weeds. The research was conducted in Banguntapan, Bantul, Yogyakarta from December 2016 to May 2017. The study used a completely randomized block design with 2 factors with three replications. The first factor was corn cultivar, consisting of four cultivars (Bisi 18, NK 33, DK 95 and Sukmaraga) and the second factor was the nitrogen dose, consisting of three levels (25 kg N ha-1, 150 kg N ha-1 and 275 kg N ha-1). The data were analyzed using 5% variance analysis and continued with Duncan test at 5% level. The results showed that the most commonly found weeds were broadleaves, but the most dominant weed was a grass, namely Dactyloctenium aegyptium, except Sukmaraga with nitrogen doses of 25 kg ha-1 and 150 kg ha-1 in 4 weeks after planting (WAP). In 8 WAP, weeds that grew in land planted with all combinations of cultivars and nitrogen doses were Cyperus rotundus, Dactyloctenium aegyptium, Digitaria ciliaris, Eleusine indica, Eragrostis tenella, Amaranthus spinosus, and Richardia scabra. There were no significant differences on the nitrate reductase activity, chlorophyll content, leaf area index, and dry weight among cultivars. The treatment of 25 kg N ha-1 resulted in the lowest leaf area index and total chlorophyll content, but the highest nitrate reductase activity.

Abstract

Abstract. Sudihardjo D, Samanhudi, Sholahuddin, Pujiasmanto B, Rahayu M, Setyawati A. 2023. Intensity attacks of Spodoptera frugiperda J.E. Smith (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) on several corn varieties in Kediri, East Java, Indonesia. Biodiversitas 24: 6979-6987. The presence of Spodoptera frugiperda J.E. Smith, 1797 attack on corn is one of the main causes of the decrease in yield. Local, composite, and hybrid corn have different characteristics and will affect intensity attack and foliar damage due to S. frugiperda attack. This study aimed to determine the intensity of the attack of several types of local corn, composites, and hybrids against S. frugiperda. The research was conducted in the Kediri region, East Java, one of the corn cultivation centers. The study used a completely randomized block design with three replications of 18 varieties of various local, composites, and hybrid corn varieties. Local corn varieties consist of Madura Putih, Kebo Bima, Manik Liu, Lameran-Latim, Seraye-Bali, Madura kuning, and Sumbawa. Composite corn varieties include Bisma, Puput Uri, Srikandi Ungu, and Sukmaraga. Furthermore, the hybrid varieties comprise ADV Jago, Bisi 18, DK 77, NK 6172, P 27, Pertiwi 3, and R7. The results showed the infestation of S. frugiperda in all corn varieties peaked at age 42 DAP, with the intensity attack reaching 100%. The lowest intensity attack rate of S. frugiperda was obtained by the Sukmaraga composite variety and the NK6172 hybrid variety tends to be more resistant to S. frugiperda attacks than composite and local varieties. All corn-tested varieties were attached by S. frugiperda, which varied for the percentage of plant damage, severity level, and the time the pest attack first attacked. The clustering groups of each corn variety were based on the intensity attack of S. frugiperda, number of larvae, severity level and early infestation founded group resistant, which have less foliar damage due to S. frugiperda larvae attacks consisting of 5 varieties: Madura kuning, Madura Putih, Bisma, NK6172, and Srikandi Ungu.

Abstract

Abstract. Lestariana DS, Purwanto E, Rahayu M, Supriyono. 2025. Responses of black soybean to rice husk-derived bio-silica nanoparticles and mycorrhiza on physiology and root development under drought stress. Biodiversitas 26: 5824-5837. This study investigated the combined effects of rice husk-derived bio-silica nanoparticles and Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi (AMF) on the physiological and root development responses of two contrasting black soybean (Glycine max) cultivars, Malika and Detam 2. A factorial experiment was arranged in a completely randomized design with three replicates. Treatment included two cultivars (Malika, Detam 2), AMF (inoculated, non-inoculated), and five biosilica nanoparticle concentrations (0, 50, 100, 150, 200 ppm). Data were analyzed using ANOVA, and mean differences were compared with Duncan's Multiple Range Test (DMRT). Results showed that cultivar Malika maintained 0.72% (p<0.05) lower H?O? accumulation and stronger antioxidant activity, while cultivar Detam 2 exhibited better root development when treated with 150-200 ppm biosilica nanoparticle and combined with AMF inoculation, showing the longest length (37 cm; p<0.05) and the greatest volume (3.17 cm³; p<0.05). These improvements indicate that bio silica nanoparticles supported redox stability and osmotic regulation, while AMF strengthened nutrient acquisition and root elongation. Overall, the integrated application of AMF and bio silica nanoparticles induced complementary biochemical and morphological tolerance mechanisms in both cultivars, enhancing drought resilience through reduced oxidative stress, improved osmotic balance, and strengthened root development. This study provides evidence of synergistic interactions between AMF and rice husk-derived bio-silica nanoparticles in black soybean, offering a sustainable, waste-based strategy to improve legume productivity under dryland and climate-stress conditions.

Abstract

Drought is a primary constraint to global maize (Zea mays L.) production, and both biochar amendments and bacterial plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) have shown potential to mitigate its effects. However, no maize-specific meta-analysis has quantified whether these interventions act synergistically. Following PRISMA 2020 guidelines, we searched Scopus and Web of Science, identified 1,270 records, and after systematic screening selected 148 studies (52 biochar-only, 55 bacteria-only, 41 combined) from 28 countries (2009-2026). Preliminary random-effects meta-analysis of 87 effect sizes from 16 studies with complete variance data showed that amendments significantly improved multiple drought tolerance indicators. Bacterial inoculation increased measured outcomes by 26.8% (95% CI: 15.8-38.8%, p < 0.001), while biochar improved them by 5.4% (95% CI: 3.1-7.8%, p < 0.001). Significant improvements were detected for chlorophyll content (+58.8%), root length (+31.4%), relative water content (+20.3%), shoot dry weight (+16.8%), and photosynthetic rate (+14.2%). Substantial heterogeneity (I2 = 78-100%) across most outcomes indicates strong moderation by experimental conditions. These findings directly contribute to Sustainable Development Goal 2 (Zero Hunger) and SDG 13 (Climate Action), SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), and SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth). This study provides a comprehensive framework and preliminary quantitative evidence supporting the use of integrated biochar-bacteria strategies for drought-resilient maize production, with full results forthcoming upon completion of data extraction from all 148 studies.
