Most teachers feels that time management become their major challenge in organizing classroom. They have set lesson plan, but sometimes the lesson does not work exactly the same. They have to work with mixed-level students, with students with learning difficulties, and with learners who are coming from different backgrounds. Teachers should be aware that it is part of teachers’ primary duty to cope with every student. Most students can learn a foreign language to some level, but there are many reasons why their improvements are not achieved significantly.

Abstract

Asynchronous learning can be the best choice to provide a new learning environment during the pandemic situation because asynchronous environments treat students as autonomous learners. Students can learn with no time limitation, and students can learn on online activities independently. E- EFL learning can be done by adopting asynchronous learning. This study examined the asynchronous learning effect on the students listening skills. This learning also adopts the principle of top-down and bottom-up listening strategies. Teachers modify and develop the listening activities to meet the students' needs by using the Google Form link. In this research, the researchers introduce news items as listening resources. The researchers conducted this study to study the listening proficiency of first-semester students before and after implementing the top-down and bottom-up listening processes in asynchronous learning environment. This experimental research is one group pretest and posttest only. To determine the effectiveness of the asynchronous top-down and bottom-up listening processes, the researchers used the Wilcoxon test to analyze the significant difference between the pre and posttest. The researchers conclude that the top-down and bottom-up process in listening is suitable for teaching news items. The paired sample test proved a significant difference between the pre and posttest data which then indicates that the students' listening comprehension on news items increases significantly. Asynchronous learning offers students many advantages while they are practicing online listening. Problems and listening difficulties challenge the teachers to develop the learning management for further achievement.

Abstract

An analysis is very important to know the students’ errors. Then the teacher can pay attention to the students’ errors. Therefore, the objectives of this research is to identify the error types which did by the eleventh-grade of SMA N 1 BAE KUDUS Academic Year 2022/2023 made in constructing conditional sentence type 1. The research employed the content analysis qualitative research. The subject of the research was the students of XI IPS 2 at SMAN 1 Bae Kudus Academic Year 2022/2023, while the sample were 36 students. In data collecting technique, the researcher used student daily assessment given by the English teacher. Then, the researcher analysed and classified the students error based on Surface Strategy Taxonomy by Dulay’s theory. They are omission, addition, missformation, and missorder. After analysing the data, the researcher found 166 incorrect items which made by the students in making conditional sentence type 1. The proportions (frequency and percentage) of the students error are omission 43 items or 25,9%, addition 74 items or 44,5%, missformation 39 items or 23,4%, and missorder 10 items or 6,2%. Therefore, the result from this research show that addition is the highest error was made by the students.Furthermore, we can conclude that the highest frequency types of error made by the students of XI IPS 2 at SMAN 1 Bae Kudus Academic Year 2022/2023 in writing conditional sentence type 1 found in their daily assessment is addition with the percentage 44,5% items of error.
