Abstract

ABSTRACT Marginal adaptation in the form of absolute marginal discrepancy and marginal gap is one of the parameters for long-term clinical success in single crown restorations. The use of 3D printing digital light processing (DLP) additive manufacturing technology can produce accurate and efficient restorations. However, one of the printing parameter, layer thickness, can affect the accuracy of marginal adaptation. This review aims to evaluate the effect of layer thickness variation on absolute marginal discrepancy and marginal gap in definitive hybrid ceramic-resin crown manufactured using 3D DLP printing technology. Results show that a layer thickness parameter of 50 µm is preferred for good fitting accuracy and small cumulative deviation. Smaller layer thickness will increase the number of layers, and manufacturing time but on the other hand will reduce accuracy. Optimalization of the layer thickness is required to obtain the best marginal adaptation of a single crown. Abstract

Temperature checks and wearing masks are an effort to reduce the transmission of Covid-19. Manual checking is impractical and spent time screening many people in public areas. This work propose a portable smart door that simultaneously detects the body temperature and mask of the people. Temperature detection uses MLX90614 sensor and Arduino, while mask recognition uses digital camera with artificial neural network (ANN). Component test and completion test are conducted to examine the smart door performance involving 20 volunteers. The door was tested to measure the body temperature of the volunteers with and without a mask. The measured temperature was compared with measurements of a thermal gun. The door will open automatically if the temperature is below 37.2°C and wearing a mask, while remaining closed if above 37.2°C or not wearing a mask. The temperature sensor works properly with a small deviation and saving time almost half of thermalgun response time. The accuracy of mask detection by the ANN is also at a high level of confidence. These findings demonstrate the applicability of the smart door for screening body temperature and mask in public areas for faster and precise.

Abstract

Background: The parameters for the long-term success of fixed dentures are retention and resistance. Fixed denture treatment for short abutments requires modification of tooth preparation to increase retention and resistance. The proximal area of the preparation can be modified to increase retention by adding grooves, boxes, and frustums. To increase resistance, proximal modifications in the form of adding grooves and boxes, and cervical angle of convergence modification can be used. Objectives: To analyze retention and resistance based on convergence angle and tooth preparation modification on short abutment. In abutment with ideal convergence angle, addition of grooves and boxes will causes the cement-restoration interface to increase. The frustrum-shaped preparation will convert the retention value from the shear strength of the cement material into the compressive strength of the cement material. In abutment with compromised convergence angle, proksimal modification in the form of grooves and boxes, as well as reducing the convergence angles in the cervical region will result in paralleling of axial walls and increase the resistance. Conclusion: In cases of a short abutment with an ideal convergence angle, the highest retention is obtained by modifying the proximal area with a frustum shape. Meanwhile, if the convergence angles are compromised, reducing the convergence angle in the cervical region would be the most effective method to improve the resistance.

Abstract

Background: One of the successes in making an ocular prosthesis is sufficient eye socket condition, so post-enucleated patient treatment with lower eyelid laxity is a challenge for prosthodontists due to its difficulty in obtaining the retention of an ocular prosthesis. Long-term use of an ill-fitting ocular prosthesis will cause lower eyelid laxity and irritation due to the movement of the prosthesis that is insubordinate with the eye muscles when it is functioning. Objectives: This paper represents the management of lower eyelid laxity in a post-enucleated patient with pressure using conformer and custom ocular prosthesis. Case Report: A twenty-year-old female patient came to Dental Hospital Universitas Sumatera Utara with a red, swollen, and frequent discharge from the eye socket. The custom ocular prosthesis used by the patient often falls out of the socket and she requests a new custom ocular prosthesis. The patient was referred to an ophthalmologist for irritated socket. Then, a definitive impression is made. Two sclera waxes were fabricated in a definitive cast to obtain a conformer and custom ocular prosthesis. Conformer was worn for three weeks to ensure an adequate lower eyelid. Then, a new custom ocular prosthesis was inserted into the socket. Pressing the conformer towards the lower eyelid will stimulate and train the eyelid muscles to move and prevent atrophy, so it can restore the support of the lower eyelid. Conclusion: Lower eyelid laxity can be corrected with a pressure-assisted conformer, resulting in a functionally and aesthetically pleasing custom ocular prosthesis. Abstract

To create quality education in the future, education in Indonesia should pay more attention to the quality of education. For example, prioritizing teacher abilities, a good educational curriculum, then thinking about creating outstanding students. The objectives of this research are: 1) To describe the increase in student learning achievement in learning changes in electrical energy through the Demonstration and Experiment Method, 2) To find out how complete the students' learning is in learning changes in electrical energy after using the Demonstration and Experiment Method. This research uses demonstration and experimental methods with the Kemmis and Taggart model of classroom action research (PTK) approach which consists of four stages: planning, action, observation and reflection. The research was conducted at SDN 1 Bayung Lencir on 20-28 October 2024, involving 38 students (11 boys and 9 girls). Data is collected through observation, learning results tests, and documentation, then analyzed using observation techniques, evaluation of test results, and documentation. From the results of this research, it was found that student learning achievement increased from each cycle, namely cycle I 50%, and cycle II 100%. This research shows that the application of the Demonstration and Experiment Method effectively increases student learning achievement in learning about changes in electrical energy. The results show an increase in student learning completeness from 50% in cycle I to 100% in cycle II. This proves that this method is able to help students understand concepts better through direct and interactive experience. The implications of this research are good for teachers, students and schools as well as other researchers.

Abstract

Background: Intraoral scanning is now widely used in clinical dental practice. The accuracy of impressions obtained using intraoral scanners is a critical factor in the success of fixed prosthodontic restorations. The accuracy of digital intraoral scanning is influenced by scanning distance and ambient lighting conditions. Objectives: This systematic review aims to evaluate the impact of scanning distance and ambient light on the accuracy of intraoral digital impressions. Methods: Following the PRISMA 2020 guidelines, this study conducted a thorough electronic search across PubMed, ScienceDirect, and ProQuest to identify relevant studies.. The Robins I tool assessed the risk of bias in various study types. Data extraction occurred based on predetermined parameters for studying specimens and assessing outcomes. Results: Multiple studies consistently highlight that maintaining an optimal intraoral scanner (IOS) tip distance, typically around 2,5-10 mm, is critical for achieving high-precision digital models, while both closer and farther distances tend to reduce accuracy. Furthermore, extremes in illumination intensity (0 lux and 1500 lux, especially at 7500 K) leading to diminished scan trueness and prolonged scanning times. Conclusion: Scanning distance and ambient lighting conditions affect the accuracy of digital impressions produced using intraoral scanners. Keywords: scanning distance, ambient light, precision, accuracy, intraoral scanners

Abstract

Background: Anterior ceramic fixed prostheses, such as bridges and resin-bonded fixed partial dentures (RBFPDs), often use zirconia or lithium disilicate. Their success depends on optimal flexural strength and favorable stress distribution to abutment teeth, both influenced by connector design. Objective: This systematic review evaluates the influence of connector design on stress distribution and flexural strength of anterior zirconia and lithium disilicate prostheses using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) or in vitro testing. Methods: Following PRISMA guidelines, studies published between 2015 and 2025 were searched in PubMed, Scopus, and Google Scholar. Eligible full-text English articles examined anterior fixed prostheses made of zirconia or lithium disilicate through FEA or in vitro testing. Results: Seven studies met the criteria. Round connectors in both materials showed the highest flexural strength under oblique loading, while triangular zirconia connectors performed best under vertical loading. Zirconia exhibited uniform stress distribution, whereas lithium disilicate showed balanced stress. Rectangular lithium disilicate connectors displayed more even stress distribution than trapezoidal designs. Double-ended RBFPDs had lower stress than single-ended designs. Conclusion: Connector design and ceramic material critically influence stress distribution and flexural strength in anterior fixed prostheses. Keywords: stress distribution, flexural strength, anterior fixed prostheses, connector design, zirconia, lithium disilicate, FEA

Abstract

Bonuses in the Multi-Level Marketing (MLM) system represent the income earned by each distributor. The purpose of providing bonuses by MLM companies is to show appreciation for each member who is able to expand their network and market products. This form of appreciation is why each distributor’s income varies, as it is based on performance, achievements, profits generated, education, and closing points, which differ for each distributor. Bonus income is measured through distributor performance, including the sales amount and inviting new distributors to join Tiens. The aim of this research is to determine the factors that influence the bonus income of Tiens distributors in Malang City. This research uses a descriptive quantitative method, utilizing both primary and secondary data sources. Data were analyzed using  Structural  Equation  Modeling  (SEM)  with SmartPLS. The results show that the variables of sales performance, network/team, and understanding of the marketing plan influence the intervening variable, which is closing points, and the dependent variable, bonus income. This research has implications for the Tiens or MLM company policy in determining bonus calculations for distributors, and also measuring bonus income as a target for distributor achievement.
