Abstract

Profitability of Islamic commercial banks in Indonesia is one of the important aspects in assessing the performance and sustainability of sharia-based financial institutions. One of the indicators used to measure the level of profitability is Return On Asset (ROA). ROA is the ratio between profit after tax to total assets. This ratio reflects the ability of bank management to use its investment resources to increase revenue. This study was conducted to analyze the factors affecting the profitability of Islamic Commercial Banks in Indonesia from 2015 to 2019. The research sample consists of quarterly data on economic growth and inflation from 2015 to 2019, as well as quarterly financial reports from 11 Islamic Commercial Banks in Indonesia that meet the criteria for complete annual financial reports during the period of 2015-2019, totaling 220 data points. The analytical technique used to interpret and analyze the data in this study is the Generalized Least Squares (GLS) panel data regression, operated using Eviews 9.0 software. In a partial analysis, the capital variable has a positive and significant effect on the profitability variable. The liquidity variable has a positive and significant effect on the profitability variable. The bank size variable has a positive and significant effect on the profitability variable. The inflation variable has a positive but not significant effect on the profitability variable. The economic growth variable has a positive and significant effect on the profitability variable.

Abstract

The southern coastal area of Java is an area directly bordering the Indian Ocean. This area often experiences high waves, which have an impact on community activities in coastal areas. High waves on the south coast of Java generally occur due to the impact of the Australian monsoon and tropical cyclones that form in the Indian Ocean. One of the tropical cyclones that emerged was Tropical Cyclone Marian, which occurred from February 27 to March 5, 2021. This research will use the Delft3D model, reanalysis, and observational data to determine these conditions. Based on the analysis results, the Delft3D Model can simulate tidal patterns and wave height conditions that occurred during the Mariana Tropical Cyclone in the Southern Java Waters region, supported by an RMSE correction of 0.2 to 0.4. The model results also show that in spatial conditions, there are fluctuations in sea level and wave height when cyclones occur, indicating that cyclones have sufficiently affected sea level and wave height conditions, which are supported by a comparison chart that shows sea level conditions tend to be higher than normal conditions and the model results. The wave height has fluctuations, indicating that the wave height corresponds to the cyclone period.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine how the number of visitors to Karo Regency and the number of tourist attractions impact Regional Original Income (PAD) in Karo Regency during the 2018–2023 period. The secondary data used in this study was obtained from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) and the Karo Regency Tourism Office. To determine the influence of the independent variables on the dependent variable, both partially and simultaneously, descriptive analysis and multiple linear regression were employed. The results indicate that the number of tourist attractions and the number of tourists have a significant simultaneous effect on PAD, with a coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.85, meaning that these two variables account for 85% of the variation in PAD. The number of tourist attractions has a significant partial effect on PAD, whereas the number of tourists does not. In addition to providing theoretical insights into the relationship between tourism and PAD, this study offers practical benefits in the form of strategic recommendations for tourism management in Karo Regency. However, the study is limited to data collected within a specific period and does not include additional variables such as hotel occupancy rates or tourist spending. Future research is expected to incorporate more variables and a broader dataset to provide a more comprehensive understanding of the topic.

Abstract

BPBD reported that a flash flood occurred in Lahat Regency due to high rainfall in the early hours of Wednesday, July 5, 2023. This led to an overflow of the Lematang River, causing flooding that submerged roads and parts of residential areas. Therefore, research is essential to understand atmospheric dynamics and review climatological conditions during the flash flood event in Lahat Regency, covering Pulau Pinang District, Lahat District, and Mulak Sebingkai District. This research is expected to serve as a scientific basis for mitigation and adaptation measures against hydrometeorological disasters. Global phenomena such as the Madden–Julian Oscillation (MJO), El Niño Southern Oscillation (ENSO), and monsoon activity have been analyzed. The analysis of local and regional-scale meteorological parameters was conducted using atmospheric reanalysis datasets from JRA-3Q, NCEP/NCAR, and NCICS. Additionally, a climatological review was carried out based on rainfall data from several cooperative rain gauge stations around the affected area, supplemented with GSMaP satellite data. The study indicates that the flash flood was caused by heavy to very heavy rainfall in the surrounding areas. This rainfall resulted from several factors, including the active MJO over the Indian Ocean, wind convergence, and the presence of the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) extending along the western part of Sumatra. The presence of a low-pressure area enhanced the potential for convective cloud formation, further intensified by atmospheric moisture levels exceeding 80% at the 850 mb layer, increasing water vapor content in the upper atmosphere. A historical data review shows that, climatologically, the rainfall during the flash flood event represented the highest recorded daily maximum rainfall for July within the observation period, surpassing pentad and decadal averages. The influence of global, regional, and local-scale phenomena contributed to the increased rainfall intensity in the flash flood-affected area.
