Abstract

Introduction: The obesity pandemic is a source of problems in both developed countries. The obesity is associated with complications before and during pregnancy and even infant death. The study aims to find out the issue of obesity among women of reproductive age, particularly concerning its impact on maternal and fetal outcomes during pregnancy. Methods: This is a cross-sectional observational study using secondary data with medical records taken at Sebelas Maret University Hospital (UNS Hospital). Subjects were obese pregnant women who gave birth at UNS Hospital. Data from 284 single births were added maternal parameters, obstetric parameters, and newborn parameters were taken and then analyzed univariately, and bivariate analysis was carried out using the Kruskall-Wallis test and the Spearman test for comparison and correlation of each variable. Results: This study finds lower incidences of postdate pregnancy and instrumental deliveries among obese mothers, but a higher rate of emergency cesarean sections. Newborn anthropometric measurements increase with maternal BMI, indicating a direct association between maternal obesity and newborn health (p = 0.001), while APGAR scores show no significant differences among maternal BMI groups. The findings underscore the importance of addressing maternal obesity to improve both maternal and newborn health outcomes. Conclusion: The research indicates a correlation between maternal BMI, maternal obstetric characteristics, newborn anthropometric measurements, and APGAR scores. This suggests that interventions aimed at promoting healthy maternal BMI, beginning before conception, continuing throughout pregnancy, and extending into the post-pregnancy period, could potentially improve newborn health outcomes and give long-term health benefits.

Abstract

Background: Dysmenorrhea is a menstrual syndrome disorder that generally occurs in women of reproductive age before or during menstruation in a form of pain and discomfort around the pelvis, lower abdomen, and back. One of dysmenorrhea factors is the lack of daily physical activity (sedentary lifestyle). Sedentary lifestyle can cause ischemia that blocks the blood flow to the reproductive organs and the production of endorphins which help in reducing pain during menstruation. Objectives: To find out the correlation between sedentary lifestyle and the dysmenorrhea intensity among midwifery students, Faculty of Medicine, Sebelas Maret University.Method: This study used a quantitative method by applying a cross-sectional approach. The population of this study were 107 midwifery students. The sampling used a purposive sampling technique with the result of 85 respondents. The univariate data analysis used frequency distribution, while the bivariate analysis used Spearman Rank test with ?-value < 0.05.Result: The result showed that the majority of midwifery students of Medical Faculty, Sebelas Maret University, with low sedentary lifestyle were 52 respondents (61.2%) and the majority of the students with low dysmenorrhea intensity were 53 respondents (63%). There was a significant and strong connection between sedentary lifestyle and dysmenorrhea intensity among midwifery students (ρ-value=0.000) and (r=0.930).Conclusion: The positive value of the correlation showed a unidirectional relation between two variables where the higher sedentary lifestyle was, the higher dysmenorrhea intensity that would be experienced. There is a correlation between sedentary lifestyle and dysmenorrhea intensity.

Abstract

Background: During the covid-19 pandemic, there are changes in living habits that must be faced by everyone, including teenagers. Adolescents in orphanages in adjustment experience stress, depression and sleep disturbances that can affect the quality of life. For this reason, progressive muscle relaxation efforts can be used as a way to improve adolescent mental health. Methods: This type of research is an analitic observational. This research was conducted at the Marhdatillah Sukoharjo Orphanage, Central Java. The subjects in this study were 42 people living in the Mardhatillah orphanage which divided into control group (27 people) and intervention group (15 people). In both the control group and the intervention group, mental health assessments were carried out twice. In the intervention group, prior to the second mental health assessment, a progressive muscle relaxation intervention was performed. Data was collected using the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ) and intervention. Analyzed by independent t-test with SPSS 21.Results: The results of the independent t test were significant (p=0.042). The control group consisted of 27 subjects with a mean post-test SDQ score of 23.8 (abnormal) and post-test 13.22 (borderline). The intervention group consisted of 15 subjects with a mean SDQ score of 22.2 pre-test (abnormal) and 9.40 post-test (normal). Conclusion: Progressive muscle relaxation can improve mental health in adolescents who live in the Mardhatillah orphanage, Sukoharjo, Central Java.
