Abstract

Stunting remains a critical public health issue in Indonesia, particularly in underdeveloped areas such as Bengkalis District. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of communication strategies—specifically the implementation of the e-HDW (Human Development Worker) application—in reducing stunting prevalence, grounded in the Diffusion of Innovation theory and Health Belief Model to understand technology adoption and behavior change processes. This research applied a descriptive qualitative case study approach involving structured questionnaires, interviews, and documentation. Informants included local government officials, healthcare workers, and Human Development Cadres (KPM). The main outcome measured was the effectiveness of the e-HDW communication tool in increasing knowledge and adoption of stunting prevention behavior at the community level. The results indicate that the e-HDW application facilitated real-time nutrition monitoring and enhanced cross-sector collaboration, contributing to a measurable decline in stunting prevalence from 21.9% (2021) to 12.6% (2024). This supports previous findings that digital health interventions can significantly improve public health outcomes when combined with community-based communication strategies. The findings align with the theoretical framework, showing that communication agents like KPM accelerated technology adoption and behavior change. In conclusion, the e-HDW app is not merely a technical tool but an effective communication platform that fosters awareness, behavioral change, and inter-agency coordination. This study highlights the strategic role of communication technology in public health interventions and suggests replicability for similar contexts across Indonesia.

Abstract

This community service program was implemented to empower women's groups in Bungaraya Village, Siak Regency, through the development of value-added and competitive processed catfish products. This activity is part of the implementation of the Social Inclusion-Based Library Transformation (TPBIS), which prioritizes libraries as centers for improving literacy and community welfare. The approach used included discussion methods, direct practice, and coaching focused on improving technical skills (making catfish floss and crackers), strengthening branding, utilizing social media and marketplaces as marketing tools, and assistance with business legality. The results of the activity showed that participants experienced significant improvements in their understanding of entrepreneurship, productivity, and creativity in creating new products based on local potential. In addition, this activity also strengthened social relations among participants and increased women's confidence in entrepreneurship. This activity directly supports the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically goal 5 (gender equality) and goal 8 (inclusive economic growth). With a comprehensive approach, this program has proven effective in building economic independence and strengthening the role of women in community-based village development.

Abstract

Abstract

The palm oil industry is a strategic sector in Indonesia's economic development, but its expansion has also given rise to various ecological and social problems, particularly related to gender inequality in labor relations and natural resource management. In public discourse, narratives of palm oil development often portray women as part of economic success, but at the same time their experiences and voices are often marginalized. This phenomenon shows a battle of discourse between the dominant economic development narrative and the social experiences of women in plantation communities. This study aims to analyze how the discourse on women in the palm oil industry is represented in digital media and how women in palm oil interpret and negotiate their experiences in the context of social and ecological sustainability. The study uses a qualitative approach with Norman Fairclough's Critical Discourse Analysis method combined with an ecofeminist perspective. Primary data was obtained through the analysis of three YouTube documentary videos featuring the lives of female palm oil workers and in-depth interviews with 15 women in the Riau wetland area, namely Kampar, Bengkalis, and Siak. The results show that media representations shape an arena of discourse between the ideologies of industrial capitalism, liberal feminism, and critical ecofeminism. The media often depicts women as productive workers and symbols of resilience, but tends to obscure the structures of exploitation and ecological inequality in the palm oil industry. On the other hand, the experiences of women at the local level show the emergence of critical awareness and social practices that negotiate the relationship between gender, plantation economics, and environmental sustainability. These findings confirm that palm oil women are not only objects of development, but also actors who construct counter-narratives for social and ecological justice in the palm oil industry.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe data journalism practices on the TikTok account @riaupos and to identify the challenges encountered in implementing it as a form of data journalism. This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach using a case study method. Research data were collected through observation, documentation of several short video posts on the TikTok account @riaupos, and interviews. The data were analyzed using Paul Bradshaw’s data journalism model and Henry Jenkins’ theory of media convergence. The results indicate that data journalism practices on the TikTok account @riaupos involve processing data into short videos that combine visualization and narrative. Analysis of several pieces of content demonstrates the application of data journalism elements as defined by Paul Bradshaw. The primary challenges include difficulty obtaining data, a lengthy verification process, and a high workload. Additionally, Henry Jenkins’ media convergence theory is evident in multimedia integration, team collaboration, and cross-platform distribution.
