Abstract

Food security is an important issue in agricultural development in developing countries where the majority of the population depends on the agricultural sector. Poor households have low purchasing power, resulting in access to low quality food and unbalanced food consumption patterns. The aim of this research is to analyze the level of food security of dry land farming households in Sumbawa Regency. The research was conducted in Alas Barat District, Sumbawa Regency, from April to July 2023. The respondents used were 55 farming households who were determined based on the Slovin formula. The data collection technique was carried out using an accidental sampling survey method. Data were analyzed using income analysis and food security analysis based on the ratio approach of the share of food expenditure to total expenditure of farmer households. Analysis of food security is also seen from the aspects of household distribution and income groups. The results of the research show that farmers in the research location are declared as food secure farming households. Based on the distribution, there were 15 farmers who were declared as food insecure households (27.27%). Meanwhile, 40 households (72.73%) were declared food secure farmers. Based on income group, of the 12 high-income farmers, 41.67 percent of them were in the food insecure category.

Abstract

The issue of price variability has become an interesting debate in the Virginia tobacco economic chain. The existence of marketing institutions in the Virginia tobacco economic chain, on the one hand, provides price certainty for farmers, on the other hand, if the marketing chain is longer, the distribution of profits obtained by farmers will be smaller. This research aims to analyze marketing channels and marketing efficiency of Virginia tobacco farming in Central Lombok Regency. The method used in this research is the descriptive method. Virginia tobacco marketing channel analysis uses a descriptive analysis approach, while Virginia tobacco marketing efficiency uses marketing margin, farmer's share and profit distribution analysis. The results of the research show that there are 2 types of marketing channels for Virginia tobacco in Central Lombok Regency, namely Marketing Channel I: Farmers - Collectors - Wholesalers; and Marketing Channel II: Farmers – Wholesalers. Marketing channels I and II of Virginia tobacco in Central Lombok Regency are declared to be efficient because the farmer's share value is 95% with a margin of IDR 2,333 and the profit distribution value is 1 in marketing channel I; and the farmer's share value is 100% in marketing channel II.. Agreements that occur between links in the chain are carried out informally (orally) with cash transactions. Lack of assistance from the government for robusta coffee bean supply chain actors; (c) The supply chain structure includes 2 channels, namely channel I (farmers - village collectors - village collectors - sub-district collectors - wholesalers - inter-island traders) and channel II (farmers - village collectors - large traders - off-island traders (Lombok and Java) where each supply chain has a different role. The supply of robusta coffee beans from the Tambora District, Bima Regency has not been able to meet the demand of the processing industry; (d) Supply chain resources consist of physical resources that are different for each member of the chain according to the activities carried out, technological resources still use simple equipment, human resources use labor within and outside the family and capital resources are still limited using own capital and loans; (e) The supply chain business process consists of 3 streams, namely product flow, fund flow and information flow which are distributed evenly and smoothly. The risks faced by each link in the chain are related to fluctuating prices, damage to production results and market congestion and the way to build trust is to communicate smoothly and sell to the same actors. (2) Robusta coffee bean supply chain performance which is in a superior position that must be maintained, namely perfect order fulfillment, delivery performance and asset management (channels I & II), order fulfillment cycle and flexibility. The performance that must be further improved to a superior position is the order fulfillment cycle (parity) and flexibility (advantage) in channel II with the costs incurred by channel I being greater than those of channel II.
