Abstract

This study evaluates the effects of laser acupuncture on jejunum morphometry and the differential leucocyte responses in rabbits. Twenty-four Hycole rabbits, aged four to twelve weeks with an average weight of 1046 g, were administered laser acupuncture once a week for six weeks. The rabbits were housed in individual cages and randomly divided into three groups. Group 1 (control) received inactive laser acupuncture for predetermined acupuncture points (Bladder 13, Bladder 15, and Bladder 21). Group 2 received active laser acupuncture at the exact points BL 13, BL 15, and BL 21, using a laser dose of 0.2 Joules. Group 3 received laser acupuncture near, but not precisely at, these exact points. Blood samples were collected at the end of the 12th week, and the jejunum was excised for histomorphometric analysis. The results indicated that rabbits in group 2 had significant increases (P0.05) in villus height (VH), and villus width (VW) compared to groups 1 and 3. The results of differential leucocytes measurements in groups 1, 2, and 3 were lymphocytes 64.2037%, 61.80.374%, 61.80.489% (normal: 30-85%); monocytes 130.447%, 12.20.374%, and 13.40.244% (normal: 4-13.4%), granulocytes 23.40.748%, 260.447%, and 24.80.374 (normal: 21-73%), respectively. These findings indicate that laser acupuncture targeted at BL13, BL15, and BL21 points promotes villi development and maintains differential leukocyte parameters within the normal range.

Abstract

Bladder stones represent a significant and increasingly common health issue in captive green iguanas (Iguana iguana), often resulting from improper husbandry practices. This case report examines the diversity and characteristics of bladder stones in five green iguanas (three females, two males) presenting with abdominal enlargement and decreased appetite. Surgical removal (cystotomy) was performed, followed by detailed morphometric and chemical analyses of the extracted stones. The stones varied in size (15.3655.01 g), shape, and color (white, cream, and dark brown), yet chemical composition was consistently dominated by calcium oxalate (5260%), tricalcium phosphate (2328%), and uric acid (1012%). Morphometric analysis showed low variation (50%) across measured parameters, indicating homogeneity among the samples. Notably, lighter iguanas tended to harbor heavier stones, suggesting a correlation with disease progression rather than sex or stone color. These findings reinforce the role of dietary imbalances, dehydration, and the anatomical peculiarities of the iguana urinary system in stone formation. Early detection, appropriate diet, and optimal hydration are critical to prevent urolithiasis. This report contributes to the limited data on iguana urolithiasis in Indonesia and highlights the need for broader studies to explore preventive strategies.

Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the effects of laser acupuncture on the hematological profile, total blood cholesterol, and total blood protein in rabbits, with potential applications for livestock. The blood profiles of laser acupuncture-treated rabbits were compared to those of rabbits of the same or different types. Twenty-four New Zealand White rabbits were randomly divided into three groups, with six rabbits in each group. Group One (control/placebo), Group Two (laser acupuncture at specific acupuncture points BL21, BL15, and BL13), and Group Three (laser acupuncture not precisely at acupuncture points). Treatments were administered six times over six weeks. The data presented is the average of the respective data in groups one, two, and three. Results showed that rabbits' hematological profiles, total blood cholesterol, and total blood protein were consistent with existing standards, with no significant deviations observed, indicating that laser acupuncture did not adversely affect rabbit health. These findings suggest that laser acupuncture does not adversely affect rabbit health and could be a safe technique for enhancing animal welfare, with potential applications in livestock management.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the muscle microstructure of longissimus dorsi Brahman cross (BX) cattle slaughtered at the slaughterhouse of North Aceh District. The meat samples for the study were taken from three male BX cattle aged 18-30 months with body weights ranging from 400 kg to 500 kg and the average body condition scores (BCS) of 3-4. The muscle used was the longissimus dorsi muscle. The mean (SE) diameter and cross-sectional area (CSA) of muscle fibers and the percentage of fast fibers in the longissimus dorsi BX muscle were 71.691.23 m, 4263.43305.69 m2 , and 48.178.81%, respectively. This study concluded that the longissimus dorsi muscle of the BX has relatively large muscle fibers, some of which in each fascicle are composed of fast muscle (fast fiber/type II).
