Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to examine the influence of peer teaching that incorporates the local wisdom of gusjigang on the algebraic thinking skills of the student with introverted personality. Method: The research employed a descriptive quantitative approach with a Single Subject Research (SSR) A-B design. The participant was a second-semester mathematics student identified as an introvert. Data were collected through tests, observations and interviews. Analysis was conducted by comparing two phases: the baseline and the intervention. The within-phase analysis considered factors, such as interval duration, trend direction, stability, rate of change and data patterns. The between-phase analysis explored differences in variable values, trend shifts and changes in data levels across the two phases. Findings: The results demonstrate that peer teaching based on gusjigang local wisdom has a positive impact on the algebraic thinking abilities of the introverted student. This is reflected in the increase in the subject’s average score from 21.5 before the intervention to 68.5 after the intervention was implemented. Significance: The implementation of peer teaching infused with local wisdom plays an important role in encouraging introverted students to become more engaged in learning. By creating a more inclusive and supportive classroom environment, this approach helps to improve the algebraic thinking skills of students who are typically less active during mathematics instruction.

Abstract

Mathematics learning, which is still dominated by an abstract approach, causes low interest and understanding of mathematical concepts among students. Therefore, the ethnomathematics approach is considered capable of bridging between local culture and mathematics education in a more contextual and meaningful way. This study aims to explore the forms of ethnomathematics contained in Saudagar-style Kudus traditional clothes and review them based on aspects of mathematical literacy, namely content, context, and process. This research used a qualitative method with an ethnographic approach. Data were collected through direct observation, semi-structured interviews with cultural figures, and visual documentation of the elements of Kudus traditional clothing. The results showed that Kudus traditional clothes contain various mathematical concepts such as flat and spatial shapes (rectangles, circles, cones, tubes), the concept of tangent lines, and arithmetic rows and series. The findings also represent aspects of mathematical literacy as a whole: content (space and shape, quantity, change and relationship), context (personal, occupational, societal, scientific), and process (formulate, employ, interpret, evaluate). Thus, Saudagar-style Kudus traditional clothes have great potential to be used as a contextual learning resource to improve students' mathematical literacy skills.

Abstract

One of the problems in learning mathematics is the lack of student's ability to solve story problems. Story questions can provide many benefits for students. Improving mathematical literacy skills is one solution that can be done to overcome this problem. Improvement can be done through a habituation process. Based on the problem description, mathematical literacy questions were developed which could be used as material for students' reflection. This research uses a design research approach with preliminary research stages, a prototyping stage, summative evaluation, and systematic reflection and documentation. The mathematical literacy question instrument that had been developed was also validated by two validators and the results were very valid. Next, the instrument was tested on class VIII students at one of the MTs in Kudus, and the majority of students had low mathematical literacy skills. This condition also influences the low ability of students to solve story problems. Based on the research results, it is necessary to carry out more intensive training in mathematics learning.

Abstract

The urgency and proficiency of students’ mathematical literacy in Bandung that have not been optimal are the basis of this study. The aim of this study is to explain the enhancement of students' mathematical literacy proficiency due to the implementation of the inquiry co-operation model (experimental class) and conventional learning (control class) in terms of basic mathematical proficiency. This study is a quasi-experimental study with a non-equivalent control group design, and the research subjects were seventy students of class VIII of Bandung that were selected through a purposive sampling technique. The research data was obtained through mathematical literacy tests of material in a polyhedron. The results of the data analysis showed that: (1) the enhancement in mathematical literacy proficiency of the experimental students class was better than the control studentsclass in terms of the basic mathematical proficiency (high and medium); (2) there is no significant difference in the increase of mathematical literacy proficiency in experimental students class in terms of the basic mathematical proficiency. It can be concluded that inquiry co-operation model espouses the enhancement of students' mathematical literacy proficiency.
