Abstract

The development of digital technology has transformed conventional text-based poetry into a form of digital literature that integrates textual, auditory, and visual elements. This study aims to describe the physical and inner structures of poetry from a multimodal perspective on the Fiksionalisme YouTube channel. The research employed a qualitative descriptive method using a structuralist approach to poetry. The data consisted of words, phrases, lines, and multimodal elements, including audio and visual components, collected through observation, note-taking, and screenshot documentation techniques. The findings reveal that the physical structure of the poems is characterized by the use of connotative and metaphorical diction, dominant figurative language (metaphor, personification, hyperbole, and simile), natural free rhyme, and dynamic digital typography. The inner structure predominantly reflects themes of love, longing, admiration, and inner conflict, accompanied by romantic-melancholic tones and reflective atmospheres. From a multimodal perspective, vocal intonation, background music, and visual imagery function as integral meaning-making resources that reinforce emotional expression and audience engagement. These findings demonstrate that poetry presented on the Fiksionalisme YouTube channel represents a contemporary form of digital literature in which linguistic and multimodal elements interact synergistically to enrich literary aesthetics and appreciation in the digital era.

Abstract

Playwriting instruction in higher education should be designed to develop students’ writing competence, creativity, and critical thinking through systematic and contextual learning processes. However, in practice, such instruction still faces challenges, particularly the limited availability of comprehensive, applicable, and locally grounded instructional materials. This study aims to analyze, test, and evaluate the development of a local culture–based playwriting textbook in improving students’ writing competence. The study employs a Research and Development method using the 4D model, which includes the stages of Define, Design, Develop, and Disseminate. The research subjects were students enrolled in a playwriting course, with data collected through interviews, expert validation questionnaires, practicality questionnaires, and learning outcome tests in the form of pre-tests and post-tests. The research instruments consisted of validation sheets for content, language, and presentation, as well as a playwriting skills test, while data were analyzed using quantitative descriptive analysis, N-gain analysis, and qualitative interpretation of feedback from validators and users. The results indicate a significant improvement in students’ playwriting ability after using the developed textbook, particularly in the aspects of structure and development of dramatic elements, and show that the textbook is highly practical and suitable for instructional use. The study concludes that the local culture–based playwriting textbook is effective in enhancing students’ writing competence, creativity, and contextual understanding, highlighting the importance of developing culturally grounded instructional materials in higher education literary learning.

Abstract

This research aims to describe the representation of emotional intelligence in a bilingual Indonesian–Jambi Malay children’s story and its implications for multiliteracy learning for beginning readers. The object of this research is a children's storybook titled Batu Tuo Si Fosil Kayu by Eko Wahyudi. The research data consists of words, phrases, sentences, dialogues, narratives, and illustrations. The data source is a bilingual Indonesian–Jambi Malay children's storybook titled Batu Tuo Si Fosil Kayu by Eko Wahyudi, published by the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education in 2024. This research used a descriptive qualitative approach. The data were analyzed using the five components of emotional intelligence, as described by to Daniel Goleman’s theory. The research instrument was the researcher, with data analysis techniques including data classification, analysis, and interpretation, as well as the design of teaching materials for literacy learning. The results indicate that all indicators of emotional intelligence—namely self-awareness, emotional regulation, motivation, empathy, and social skills—are present in the analyzed children’s story. The most dominant indicators are empathy and social skills, reflected through character interactions. Furthermore, this bilingual children’s story features a simple plot, communicative language, and contextual illustrations, making it suitable for beginning readers. Therefore, a bilingual Indonesian–Jambi Malay children’s story has the potential to serve as an alternative, multiliteracies-based instructional material to strengthen the emotional intelligence of beginning readers.

Abstract

: This research is driven by the low poetry writing skills among students at SMP N 17 Tanjung Jabung Timur. The primary challenges identified include difficulties in generating ideas and utilizing meaningful diction. The objective of this study is to describe the improvement in students' poetry writing abilities through the application of a semiotic approach based on local wisdom. The implementation methods consisted of preparation, training, content production practice, as well as monitoring and evaluation. The research subjects involved 7th and 8th-grade students of SMP N 17 Tanjung Jabung Timur. Data collection techniques included poetry writing tests, classroom activity observations, and documentation. Data analysis was conducted using both descriptive qualitative and quantitative methods. The results indicate a significant increase in the average scores of students' poetry writing abilities. Qualitatively, students were able to transform local cultural signs—such as coastal community traditions and the mangrove ecosystem—into profound poetic metaphors through the analysis of icons, indices, and symbols. The study concludes that a semiotic approach based on local wisdom is effective in improving the quality of students' poetry while simultaneously strengthening local cultural literacy.
