Abstract

Personal responsibility is an individual's ability to identify and regulate one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors and the willingness to take responsibility for the choices and resulting social and personal outcomes. Through a quantitative correlational study, this study explores the role of personal responsibility and career planning in high school students/adolescents. A total of 465 adolescent subjects from Indonesia were sampled in this study. The data collection method used instruments tested for validity and reliability in measuring personal responsibility and career planning. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive statistics to describe the level of personal responsibility and career planning and inferential statistics, namely product moment and simple linear regression, to test the relationship between the two variables. The results showed that 50.9% of students showed that the level of personal responsibility was high, while 60.8% indicated that career planning was medium. Statistical analysis also shows a positive and significant relationship between personal responsibility and career planning, with a practical contribution of 88.1%, while other factors influence the rest. The implications of this study can be the basis for school counselors to help develop students' career planning skills. This study also encourages further researchers to use the study results as a basis for providing guidance and counseling service interventions, especially related to personal responsibility and career planning.

Abstract

Decision-making skills are essential life skills that need to be developed from an early age, as they contribute to children’s independence, self-confidence, and critical thinking abilities. The development of these skills is strongly influenced by parenting styles, particularly strict parents or authoritarian parenting, which is characterized by high control and limited child participation. This study aims to comprehensively examine children’s decision-making skills from the perspective of strict parents using a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach. Relevant peer-reviewed articles published over the last ten years were systematically selected and analyzed following the PRISMA guidelines and thematic synthesis techniques. The findings indicate that authoritarian parenting tends to have a negative impact on children’s decision-making skills, particularly in terms of autonomy, emotional regulation, and self-confidence. Although parental strictness may provide behavioral structure, its positive effects are limited unless accompanied by open communication and emotional support. This study highlights the importance of balancing parental control and autonomy support to foster optimal development of children’s decision-making skills across developmental stages

Abstract

Adolescents require assertiveness in socializing and interacting with their social environment in order to be able to express themselves well. However, there are still many adolescents who have not been able to express their thoughts, feelings, and hopes. This research aims to test the efficacy of group guidance services using the group investigation learning model to increase adolescent assertiveness. This research uses a one-group pretest-posttest research design to achieve the research objectives. The research subjects were six students at State Junior High School. The techniques and instruments used for data collection were an assertiveness scale. The assertiveness scale was tested for the level of validity and reliability through the Cronbach alpha formula. Furthermore, the data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon test. The results demonstrated a significant increase in student assertiveness after being given group guidance using the group investigation model. This indicates that the group investigation learning model is effective in increasing the assertiveness of adolescents.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the low level of emotional wellness among some junior high school students, characterized by difficulties in recognizing, understanding, and managing emotions adaptively, thereby impacting social behavior and learning processes at school. Previous studies have shown that emotion regulation-based interventions are effective in improving adolescents' emotional well-being. However, counseling interventions in schools that specifically target emotional regulation patterns to improve students' emotional wellness are still relatively limited in guidance and counseling services. Therefore, this study aims to examine the effectiveness of group counseling using the Mode Deactivation Counseling (MDC) model in improving the emotional wellness of junior high school students. This study uses a quantitative approach with a one-group pretest-posttest experimental design. The research subjects consisted of five eighth-grade students from a junior high school in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, selected using purposive sampling based on the criterion of low emotional wellness. Data were collected using an emotional wellness scale that had been tested for content validity through expert judgment and reliability. Data analysis was performed using the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test to determine differences in scores before and after treatment. The results show a significant difference between pretest and posttest emotional wellness scores after participating in MDC group counseling (p = 0.043 < 0.05). These findings indicate that MDC group counseling is effective in improving emotional wellness among junior high school students.
