Abstract

Background: The increasing number of Indonesian students studying abroad, particularly in Malaysia, demands strengthening knowledge capacity from an early age to compete globally, including in the agribusiness sector. However, observations indicate that Indonesian students in Malaysia still have a limited understanding of basic agribusiness concepts. This international community service activity aims to improve basic agribusiness understanding through educational transfer through visual media. Method: The implementation method includes a preparation stage, direct learning implementation supported by visual video media, and evaluation using pre-test and post-test instruments. This activity involved 15 elementary school students in grades 4-5, aged 10-12 years, at a learning center in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Results: The results showed an increase in participants' average score from 50% on the pre-test to 81.25% on the post-test, a 31.25% increase. These findings indicate that the use of visual video media is effective in improving students' understanding of basic agribusiness concepts. Conclusion: This community service activity supports the transfer of agribusiness education to Indonesian students abroad and strengthens the implementation of the three pillars of higher education in the context of community service.

Abstract

The International Community Service Program (KKN Internasional) in Malaysia aims to improve basic farming skills among children aged 8 to 12 by teaching mustard seed sowing as a practical learning activity that involves direct hands-on experience. The program was implemented through interactive counseling, live demonstrations, and intensive guidance to ensure that participants fully understood the technical steps involved in seed sowing, transplanting seedlings, and plant care. The results of the program showed that rockwool media provided better plant growth compared to cotton and cocopeat, as indicated by superior plant height and leaf number at each observation stage. The children’s ability to perform the sowing process independently significantly increased, along with their interest in agricultural activities. This program also helped develop values of responsibility, independence, and environmental awareness from an early age. The outcomes indicate that simple agricultural education is highly effective as a learning medium for character building and food literacy within migrant communities. It is recommended that such activities be continuously implemented to strengthen household food security and support the development of non-formal education based on agricultural practices.

Abstract

Abstract

Balanced nutrition is a crucial factor in supporting the growth and development of elementary school children. However, students’ understanding of animal- and plant-based protein sources remains low due to the lack of engaging and contextual nutrition learning methods. Food literacy plays an important role in shaping nutritional awareness from an early age, especially for Indonesian students abroad who face cross-cultural food environments. This international community service program aimed to enhance the food literacy of students at the Indonesian School of Kuala Lumpur (SIKL) through interactive education on animal and plant-based protein sources. The activity was conducted from August 26–30, 2025, involving 60 elementary school students. The implementation method employed an educational approach based on interactive sticker games that combined visual and kinesthetic elements. Evaluation was carried out by comparing students’ ability to classify food sources before and after the activity using descriptive percentage analysis. The results showed a significant increase in students’ understanding, from 45% to 90% after the activity. Moreover, students demonstrated high enthusiasm and active participation throughout the learning process, which strengthened both cognitive and social aspects. The visual-kinesthetic approach proved effective in correcting conceptual misunderstandings and improving long-term memory retention. This program also strengthened international academic collaboration and contributed to the achievement of SDG 2 (Zero Hunger) and SDG 4 (Quality Education). Therefore, participatory game-based learning can serve as an effective and enjoyable strategy for fostering children’s food literacy in cross-national elementary education settings. Abstract

Purpose: This community service study examined whether a simple battery demonstration could support Indonesian elementary pupils’ understanding of household electrical energy sources and energy transformation. Research Methodology: The activity was conducted in August in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, with Indonesian elementary-age children. Fourteen pupils joined the learning session, while quantitative analysis used 14 complete pre-test and post-test score pairs available in the score sheet. The demonstration kit consisted of a battery, connecting wires, a light-emitting diode, a small propeller, and reused plastic bottles as the tool frame. Learning was implemented through a brief explanation, guided demonstration, hands-on practice, discussion, and a five-item test. Results: The mean score increased from 3.286 (SD = 0.825) before the activity to 4.357 (SD = 0.929) after the activity. A paired-sample t-test showed a significant improvement, t(13) = 4.020, p = 0.001, with a large within-participant effect size (Cohen’s dz = 1.074). Conclusions: The demonstration helped pupils observe that a battery can function as an electrical energy source and that electrical energy may be transformed into light and motion. Limitations: The study was limited by the small sample, short intervention, five-item instrument, and absence of a control group. Contributions: The article offers a low-cost, replicable model for elementary science outreach in Indonesian overseas learning communities.
