Abstract

Dari bulan Juli hingga Oktober 2018, Tim Pengabdian Masyarakat dari Fakultas MIPA Universitas Mataram mengadakan pelatihan deteksi telur dan cacing dewasa di Pusat Kesehatan Hewan (Puskeswan) Masbagik Lombok Timur dan pelatihan pembuatan obat cacing alternatif/herbal di Kelompok Peternak Punik Agung, Desa Kesik, Masbagik Lombok Timur dan. Kegiatan diawali dengan deteksi telur cacing dan cacing dewasa pada feses sapi yang dipelihara di kandang kolektif Kelompok Peternak Punik Agung, Desa Kesik. Hasil deteksi feses menunjukkan bahwa semua sapi yang dipelihara di kandang kolektif tersebut menderita cacingan (terdeteksi beberapa jenis/spesies cacing) dengan kategori ringan hingga sedang. Berdasarkan hasil deteksi tersebut, dilakukan pembuatan dan pemberian obat cacing alternatif/herbal. Tanaman yang dipilih sebagai obat herbal cacingan adalah pepaya/gedang (Carica papaya) dan widuri/rembiga (Calotropis gigantea). Dua tanaman ini paling mudah didapat di sekitar perumahan warga di Dusun Kesik dan paling mudah diproses untuk dijadikan obat cacing dibanding tanaman yang lain. Biji pepaya dan bunga widuri dikeringkan dan ditumbuk hingga membentuk serbuk halus untuk kemudian diberikan pada sapi yang menderita cacingan. Berdasarkan hasil deteksi diberikan pemberian obat cacing alternatif/herbal sebagai berikut. Satu kelombok diberi serbuk biji pepaya/gedang (2 hari pemberian sebagai dosis pengobatan), 1 kelompok diberikan serbuk bunga widuri/rembiga (1 hari pemberian sebagai dosis pengobatan) dan 1 kelompok lain diberian albendazol sebagai kontrol positif. Observasi terhadap jumlah telur dan cacing dewasa pasca pemberian obat dilakukan tiap 7 hari sebanyak 2 kali (selama 14 hari). Setelah 14 minggu pemberian obat anternatif/herbal, sapi yang mendapatkan bubuk biji pepaya/gedang menunjukkan penurunan infeksi yang lebih baik (berdasarkan pada penurunan persentase jumlah dan jenis cacing yang menginfeksi) dibandingan dengan bubuk bunga widuri/rembiga. Namun, penurunan tertinggi didapatkan dari sapi yang diberikan Albendazol (kontrol). Dengan demikian dapat disimpulkan bahwa, bubuk biji pepaya dapat digunakan sebagai obat alternatif untuk mengatasi kasus sapi cacingan, tapi tidak untuk menggantikan obat standar farmasi.

Abstract

Sampah organik adalah sampah yang paling banyak dihasilkan oleh aktivitas manusia, karenanya harus diolah sedemikian rupa sehingga tidak menyebabkan masalah kesehatan dan lingkungan, serta dapat dimanfaatkan kembali. Salah satu bentuk pengolahan dan pemanfataannya adalah dengan mengubahnya mejadi pupuk organik yang prosesnya dibantu oleh mikroba bakteri EM4®. Kegiatan pembuatan dan aplikasi pupuk organik berbasis mikroba rencananya akan dilaksanakan di Desa Penimbung, Lingsar - Lombok Barat. Kegiatan dan monitoring akan dilaksanakan selama 6 bulan (Mei s/d Oktober 2020). Kegiatan ini akan melibatkan beberapa dosen dan mahasiswa dari PS Biologi, FMIPA - UNRAM, serta pemuda karang taruna bersama warga Desa Penimbung, Lingsar - Lombok Barat. Kegiatan akan diisi dengan pelatihan pembuatan dan aplikasi pupuk kompos dan pupuk cair dari sisa makanan berbasis mikroba bakteri (EM4®). Pupuk yang sudah dibuat nantinya akan diaplikasikan pada tanaman kebun/pekarangan, menggantikan pupuk komersial.

Abstract

Bamboo plant is a potential source of plant growth promoting bacteria (PGPB). Phosphate solubilizing ability is an important characteristic of PGPB. This study aims to isolate phosphate solubilizing bacteria around the bamboo clumps using natural media. The bacteria around the bamboo clumps are trapped using natural media. The media consist of  70 gram cooked rice and 70 gram banana peel. The media were stored in plastic boxes with four types of treatments: 1) tightly closed, 2) covered with tissue, 3) covered with banana leaves, and 4) uncovered (open). Those plastic boxes are placed around the bamboo clump and left  for up to 5 days. The trapped phosphate solubilizing bacteria were isolated using Pikovskaya agar. A total of 17 isolates of phosphate solubilizing bacteria were successfully trapped, 8 isolates in cooked rice and 9 isolates in banana peel. The isolates showed a phosphate solubilization index, ranging from 0,2 to 1,40. The isolate NN01 has the highest ability to solubilize phosphate. This isolate was trapped in a cooked rice with an open plastic box condition. NN01 is a Gram positive rod-shaped bacterium. In this study it was revealed that the area of ​​the bamboo clumps is inhabited by various types of bacteria. The natural media of cooked rice and banana peels have a good ability to trap potential phosphate solubilizing bacteria around the bamboo clumps.

Abstract

Materi mikrobiologi sebagai bagian dari mata pelajaran Biologi SMA seringkali tidak bisa dilaksanakan praktikumnya, disebabkan alat dan bahan yang tidak tersedia di sekolah maupun prosedur yang cukup sulit &/ lama untuk dilakukan di laboratorium. Hal ini membuat materi mikrobiologi menjadi sulit dipahami oleh siswa SMA. Kegiatan Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat ini bertujuan memberikan pelatihan/ penyegaran bagi guru-guru Biologi SMA pada praktikum Mikrobiologi Dasar dan Mikrobiologi Terapan yang bisa dilaksanakan di laboratorium Biologi pada tingkat SMA. Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan di SMA Negeri I Jonggat, Lombok Tengah, selama 3 hari (13-15 September 2024). Materi yang diberikan adalah materi mikrobiologi dasar berupa tahapan dalam isolasi, kultur dan identifikasi bakteri tanah dan materi mikrobiologi terapannya berupa Pembuatan Yogurt dan Roti Dengan Peralatan yang Terdapat di Dapur Rmah Tangga. Kegiatan ini diikuti oleh para guru biologi SMA dan para siswa SMA yang tertarik dalam praktikum mikrobiologi. Hasil yang didapatkan pada kegiatan ini adalah beberapa para siswa mampu membuat kultur dan pewarnaan mikroba tanah dan mengidentifikasi mikroba yang dapat diisolasi dari tanah dengan cara yang sederhana. Para siswa juga mampu membuat minuman dan makanan fermentasi dengan cara yang sederhana menggunakan bahan dan alat yang tersedia di dapur rumah tangga.

Abstract

Busy activities make people prefer to consume ready-to-eat food which sometimes does not guarantee the level of cleanliness, so that cases of food poisoning often occur. Bacillus cereus is a bacteria that causes food poisoning which is usually found in rice. To overcome this problem, research was carried out to find new sources of medicine from endophytic fungi, namely fungi that live in plant tissue. The addition of clinical drugs derived from fungi has attracted interest in the discovery of new secondary metabolites derived from endophytic fungi. This research aims to (1) obtain endophytic fungal isolates isolated from red ginger rhizomes, (2) obtain endophytic fungal isolates that are antibacterial against Bacillus cereus. The method used is a laboratory experiment by randomizing and repeating the samples. The results showed that four isolates of endophytic fungi were successfully isolated from red ginger rhizomes with varying inhibitory abilities between isolates. The highest percentage of inhibitory power based on the in vitro dual culture assay was a cream colored isolate of 100 ± 0.0%.

Abstract

Cilok is a boiled snack made from starch with or without a mixture of minced meat, has a savory and chewy taste. Cilok is one of the favorite snacks in Indonesia. Most cilok sellers sell their cilok right on the side of the main road for hours. This allows cilok that are sold to be contaminated with various bacteria. This study aims to calculate the Total Plate Count (TPC) of bacteria and to identify Salmonella sp. in cilok and its sauce in Selaparang District, Mataram City. This study used quantitative method in the form of calculating the TPC of the bacteria and qualitative method in the form of sample isolation on selective media, sugar, and biochemical tests. The results of this study showed that the TPC of the bacteria from the cilok sellers samples number 1 to 8 were 1,2x102, 1x101, 1x101, 2x101, 1,2x102, 1,5x102, 3,9x101, and 3,5x102 cfu/g respectively. Meanwhile, the TPC of the bacteria from sellers' sauce samples number 1 to 8 were 2x102, 1,8x103, 1x101, 1x101, 1,5x101, 7,9x103, 1,7x105 and 1,7x103 cfu/mL, and there was no contamination of Salmonella sp. on cilok nor its sauce samples. All the cilok samples that has been examined had TPC bacterial value that did not exceed the standards set by SNI 7388-2009, so they were still safe for consumption. Meanwhile, one out of eight sauce samples had a bacterial TPC value that exceeded the standard, making it not safe for consumption.

Abstract

Ampenan is one of a coastal area with a dense population in Mataram City. There are lots of people activity in Penghulu Agung and Sekip beach since they are the recreational area in Ampenan District, and therefore diseases transmission through mosquito bites becomes easily. The research aims are to determine the abundance and habitat characteristics of Aedes albopictus as a vector of dengue fever in Penghulu Agung and Sekip beach. This esearch is a descripftive explorative research using random sampling and explorative methods. According to research results it can be conclude that the relative abundance value of Aedes albopictus from both location is 53.80% (high). The breeding habitat mostly in the form of bucket and boat with a dense of vegetation or canopi. environmental factors in the research location such as water temperature range between 29.8 - 30.5 Celcius, air temperatur between 25.5 - 29.9 Celcius, humidity between 52 - 76%, water acidity 6 - 8, salinity 0%, and light intensity 105 - 30,430 lux.

Abstract

 Penyakit infeksi merupakan penyakit yang disebabkan mikroorganisme seperti virus, jamur, protozoa dan bakteri yang terus berkembang. Pengendalian penyakit infeksi umumnya menggunakan antibiotik sehingga perlu ditemukannya antibiotik baru. Salah satunya yaitu dengan memanfaatkan senyawa metabolit sekunder yang terkandung dalam tanah. Mikroorganisme yang memiliki senyawa ini yaitu Actinomycetes. Senyawa metabolit sekunder dapat ditemukan pada tanaman mangrove. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengisolasi, mengkarakterisasi dan mengidentifikasi serta menguji aktivitas antibakteri pada sedimen mangrove di Dusun Ketapang Sekotong Barat. Metode isolasi dilakukan untuk menumbuhkan Actinomycetes pada media SCA (Starch Casein Agar) dan uji antibakteri dilakukan dengan agar blok, uji biokimia dan reduksi gula dilakukan untuk mengetahui karakter dari Actinomycetes. Hasil pengujian didapatkan sebanyak 10 isolat Actinomycetes. Karakter isolat yang didapatkan yaitu gram positif, berbentuk batang dan filamen, berwarna cream, kekuningan, dan coklat. Empat isolat mampu menghambat pertumbuhan bakteri yang dilihat dari terbentuknya zona bening.

Abstract

Kembang Kuning resort is one of the Mount Rinjani National Park Resorts that have high biodiversity, so it has the potential for plant growth-promoting bacteria. Bacillus sp. is one species of bacteria that has great potential as a plant growth-promoting bacteria. The purpose of this study was to isolate and determine the ability of phosphate solubilization, nitrogen-fixing and anti-fungal activity of Bacillus spp. isolated from the Primary Forest of Kembang Kuning Resort, Gunung Rinjani National Park. This research is an exploratory study consisting of the isolation of Bacillus sp., phosphate solubilization test with spot inoculation method on Pikovskaya Agar media, qualitative nitrogen fixing test using Jensen's Nitrogen - Free media, and anti-fungal activity test against Fusarium sp. with dual culture method. There were 21 isolates of the genus Bacillus successfully isolated in this study. The phosphate solubilization test showed that 16 bacterial isolates could solubilize phosphate, where the highest phosphate solubilization index was produced by isolate P3.1 namely 0,52. A total of one isolate, namely isolate P3.1, can fix nitrogen on Jensen's Nitrogen-Free medium. In the anti-fungal test against Fusarium sp., three bacterial isolates were obtained that were able to inhibit the growth of Fusarium sp., where the highest antagonism was produced by isolate P2.8 which was 46,66%. Bacillus spp. isolated from Kembang Kuning Resort has potential as PGPB in terms of crop protection.

Abstract

Ecotourism is a nature-based tourism activity where natural conditions are still natural and generally aims to introduce biological conservation activities. Gunung Tunak Nature Tourism Park (TWA) in Central Lombok is a tourist area that has a wealth of flora and fauna that can be developed as ecotourism. The natural beauty in this area has not yet been developed much, due to the local community's lack of understanding of ecotourism. This community service activity aims to develop interpretive routes within the Gunung Tunak TWA area, provide knowledge about ecotourism and help promote ecotourism in the Gunung Tunak TWA. Service activities are carried out in 4 stages, namely surveying interpretation routes and unique flora and fauna, creating interpretation routes and route maps, counseling and creating promotional media. This community service activity has run smoothly thanks to the very cooperative cooperation of partners in discussion forums and the creation of signboards and interpretation paths. Mount Tunak TWA has potential fauna for ecotourism in the form of birds, mammals, reptiles and insects. Animal information signs on the Bilasayak and Teluk Ujung interpretation routes have been created to help tourists find wildlife that can be observed on Mount Tunak.
