Abstract

In Indonesia, students and teachers often engage in disciplinary behaviour. Discipline is the only educational characteristic that needs to be emphasized in schools. Most students have not shown good disciplinary character, where students are not on time to enter class during study hours, like to skip class during learning, and do not do assignments so the character of poor student discipline becomes a habit. This study aims to determine the role of the guidance and counselling teacher in the formation of the disciplinary character of students at MTS Al Washliyah. The research method used in this study is descriptive qualitative which examines the role of guidance and counseling teachers in the formation of students' disciplinary character. The data were collected through interviews, document analysis, focused discussions, and observations as outlined in field notes. The results of this study indicate that the role of the guidance and counselling teacher in the formation of the disciplinary character of students is going quite well. Guidance and counselling teachers collaborate with student representatives, homeroom teachers, and parents to solve the problems of students who lack discipline. Students who lack discipline are given individual counselling services and guidance and counselling teachers also make visits to students' homes to find out the factors causing these students to lack discipline and to discuss student problems at school with students' parents. The findings of this study are the role of guidance and counselling teachers in shaping the disciplinary character of students in MTS Al Washliyah.

Abstract

Self confidence is essential for academic success; however, many students still experience low levels of self-confidence, which hinders the development of their potential and academic achievement. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of group counseling services using the Rational Emotive Imagery (REI) technique in improving the self confidence of 8th grade students at Madrasah Tsanawiyah Hifzil Qur'an, Islamic Centre Foundation of North Sumatra, in the 2024-2025 academic year. The research method employed is quantitative with a pre-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design. The research sample consisted of 30 students selected through purposive sampling based on the criterion of having low self-confidence levels. Data were collected using a self-confidence questionnaire that had been tested for validity and reliability. The data were analyzed using a paired sample t-test. The results showed an increase in the average self-confidence score from 65,5 in the pretest to 87,75 in the posttest. Normality and homogeneity tests indicated that the data were normally distributed and homogeneous. The t-test results showed a significance value (p-value) < 0,05, indicating a significant difference between the pretest and posttest scores. Therefore, it can be concluded that group counseling services using the REI technique are effective in increasing students’ self-confidence.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of group counseling services using bibliotherapy techniques in improving student tolerance at State Junior High School 1 Natal. The background of this research is the low level of social tolerance among students, which is reflected through discriminatory behaviors such as teasing peers. The research was conducted from April to May 2025 using a pre-experimental approach and a one group pre-test–post-test design. The research population consists of all 90 seventh-grade students, with a sample of 10 students selected purposively. The data collection instrument is in the form of a tolerance scale, while the data analysis technique uses a paired sample t-test through SPSS version 25. The test results show a significance value (2-tailed) of 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test scores. Thus, it can be concluded that group guidance with bibliotherapy techniques is effective in increasing students’ tolerance. The implications of this research indicate that this service can be a strategic alternative in counseling interventions to shape students’ more tolerant character. The success of increasing tolerance is also noted.

Abstract

The issue of low social skills among junior high school students can hinder interpersonal relationships and collaboration during the learning process. This study examines the effectiveness of group guidance services that integrate cooperative game techniques in improving the social skills of seventh-grade students at SMP Negeri 3 Galang. A quantitative approach was employed using a quasi-experimental design of the Pretest-Posttest Control Group type. The study population consisted of 101 students, with 16 students identified as having low social skills. The sample was divided into experimental and control groups, each comprising eight students selected through purposive sampling. The intervention was conducted over six sessions. The research instrument used was a social skills scale, and the data were analysed using the t-test with the assistance of SPSS version 27. The analysis results showed a significance value (2-tailed) of 0.000 (< 0.05), indicating a significant difference between the experimental and control groups. The t-values were 17.616 and 8.981, with a significance level of 0.000. These findings demonstrate that group guidance services based on cooperative games effectively enhance students' social skills. This result implies that such an approach can serve as an alternative strategy for school counselling services.

Abstract

Extracurricular activities play a crucial role in developing students' career preparation at the elementary school level. This study examined the role of extracurricular activities in developing students' careers at Bandar Puteri Jaya National School, Malaysia, with support from parents, teachers, environment, and school facilities. The research aimed to analyze the role of extracurricular activities in developing students' careers by comparing Malaysian and Indonesian schools. This qualitative study employed descriptive methods including interviews, observations, and documentation. Data were collected from guidance counselors and analyzed through data reduction, display, and conclusion drawing. The findings revealed that extracurricular activities in both Malaysia and Indonesia share similarities and differences in implementation approaches. In Malaysia, the school offers diverse activities including sports (football, basketball, handball), dance, arts, marching band, and music with systematic scheduling and comprehensive facilities. Indonesian schools focus primarily on scouting activities due to resource limitations. Both schools demonstrate that extracurricular activities effectively develop students' potential, interests, and talents while building essential character traits such as teamwork, leadership, discipline, and responsibility. The study concludes that extracurricular activities serve as vital platforms for career preparation, enabling students to explore their capabilities and develop skills necessary for future educational and career advancement.
