Abstract

The high number of stunting cases in Indonesia is in the spotlight of WHO, so that stunting cases are given serious attention by the government by making preventing and reducing the number of stunting cases a national program through the collaboration of several ministries. Based on this, the government launched food estates as a national strategic program for 2020-2024. It is hoped that this program will be a solution to overcome the high number of stunting cases while reducing the number of stunting cases that have been found. The food estate program approach, which is expected to have an impact on reducing and preventing stunting cases, uses the "zero waste furming system" method, namely the use of corn and oil palm plantations that have developed so far as beef cattle farms where corn and plantation waste are processed into animal feed. and livestock manure and urine are processed into biogas and organic fertilizer which are really needed by corn and oil palm plants. The intervention program to reduce and prevent stunting rates in Central Mamuju Regency is carried out comprehensively through a food security program (food estate) and providing additional nutrition and other nutritional needs, especially for community groups who are vulnerable to nutritional and protein deficiencies.

Abstract

Peternakan broiler memiliki potensi ekonomi yang besar. Usaha ini dapat memberikan keuntungan finansial, terutama jika dikelola dengan baik. Banyak peternak yang tertarik untuk memasarkan hasilnya karena potensi pendapatan yang menjanjikan dari penjualan broiler. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui minat peternak dalam memasarkan hasil usaha ternak broiler di Kecamatan Bajeng Kabupaten Gowa. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan pada bulan April hingga Mei 2023 di Kecamatan Bajeng Kabupaten Gowa dengan sampel sebanyak 30 peternak dan menetapkan Desa Bone, Desa Bontosunggu, Desa Lempangang dan Desa Pabentengan sebagai lokasi penelitian. Jenis penelitian dengan menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif kuantitatif. Analisis data yang adalah deskriptif statistik, yaitu suatu analisis yang memberikan gambaran secara umum mengenai karakteristik dari masing-masing variabel penelitian. Penyajian data penelitian ini dalam bentuk distribusi frekuensi dan pengukuran dengan menggunakan skala likert. Setiap pernyataan dari indikator yang menggambarkan masing-masing variabel diberi nilai skor 1 sampai dengan 5 (sangat tidak setuju hingga sangat setuju). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa minat peternak dalam memasarkan hasil usaha ternak broiler di Kecamatan Bajeng Kabupaten Gowa berdasarkan permintaan ternak broiler, ketersediaan ternak broiler dan pendapatan berada pada kategori Tinggi, sedangkan ketersediaan modal berada pada kategori Cukup. Penelitian ini sangat bermanfaat untuk memberikan pandangan baru dan dalam pemasaran hasil ternak broiler, yang pada akhirnya dapat membantu meningkatkan kesejahteraan peternak.

Abstract

ABSTRAKTelur merupakan suatu produk peternakan yang mengandung zat gizi baik, telur merupakan bahan pangan sempurna yang berperan sangat penting dalam pemenuhan kebutuhan hidup sehari hari. Telur dapat kita diperoleh diberbagai tempat salah satunya di pasar modern. Kelemahan dari produk peternakan ini mudah rusak dan daya simpannya pendek. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk untuk mengevaluasi secara interior dan eksterior kualitas telur ayam ras di pasar modern Kota Makassar. Pengambilan data penelitian dimulai dari 10 September – 1 Oktober 2020, tempat penelitian 4 pasar moderen di Kota Makassar Sulawesi Selatan. Sampel sebanyak 180 butir telur ayam ras diambil secara acak dari 4 pasar moderen di Kota Makassar di beri kode (A, B, C dan D), dengan jumlah ulangan sebanyak 3 kali. Telur ayam ras yang diambil berumur 1-14 hari yang memiliki packaging mengikuti syarat SNI. kemudian dilakukan pemeriksaan kualitas telur di Laboratorium Terpadu Jurusan Ilmu Peternakan Universitas Islam Negeri Alauddin Makassar. Pemeriksaan kualitas telur berupa Eksterior dan Interior merujuk pada SNI 3926: 2008. Eksterior terdiri dari pemeriksaan kondisi kerabang telur (bentuk, kehalusan, keutuhan dan kebersihan). Interior terdiri dari pemeriksaan kondisi kantung udara, (kebebasan bergerak dan bau), kualitas putih telur (kebersihan dan kekentalan), kualitas kuning telur (bentuk, posisi, penampakan dan kebersihan). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa telur ayam ras yang beredar di pasar moderen Kota Makassar masih ditemukan variasi nilai mutu eksterior dan interior telur, mulai mutu I, mutu II, dan mutu III. Pada kualitas eksterior telur ayam kisaran 90-100 % mutu I. Pada kualitas interior mutu I lebih sedikit dibanding mutu II dan mutu III.Kata Kunci: kualitas ekterior, kualitas interior, pasar moderen, telur ayamEvaluate the Quality of Interior and Exterior of the Purebred Chicken Eggs in the Modern Market of Makassar CityABSTRACTResearch has been conducted to evaluate the quality of the interior and exterior of the purebred chicken eggs in the modern market of Makassar City. Collecting data started from 10 September to 1 October 2020, when 4 modern markets were researched in Makassar City, South Sulawesi. as many as 180 purebred chicken eggs were taken randomly from 4 modern markets in Makassar City with a code (A, B, C, and D) and repetitions as many as 3 times. The purebred chicken egg taken was 1-14 days old which has packaging based on the SNI requirements. Then examined the quality of the eggs at the Integrated Laboratory of the Animal Science Department, State Islamic University, Alauddin, Makassar. Examination of the quality of the eggs neither exterior nor interior refers to SNI 3926: 2008. The exterior consists of an Examination of the eggshell condition (shape, smoothness, wholeness, and cleanliness). The interior consists of an examination of the air pocket condition, (freedom of movement and smell), The quality of albumin (cleanliness and viscosity), and yolk quality (shape, position, appearance, and cleanliness). The results showed that purebred chicken eggs that circulate in the modern market of Makassar City were still found in variations of the value of the exterior and interior quality, ranging from the quality I, quality II, and quality III. On the exterior quality of chicken eggs ranged from 90-100% of quality I. In interior quality, the quality I was less than quality II and quality III.Keywords: eksterior quality, interior quality, modern market, chicken egg

Abstract

ABSTRAK Penelitian mengenai reduksi metana (CH4) pada ternak ruminansia semakin intens dilakukan mengingat efek emisi gas metana ke lingkungan lebih besar dibanding efek yang ditimbulkan oleh emisi gas karbondioksida (CO2). Selain itu gas metana yang dihasilkan juga mengindikasikan kehilangan gross energi bagi ternak. Salah satu alternatif untuk mengendalikan emisi gas metana pada ternak ruminansia adalah dengan manipulasi pakan menggunakan limbah hasil panen tanaman perkebunan. Makalah ini merupakan studi literatur mengenai pemanfaatan limbah perkebunan untuk mengendalikan produksi gas metana dalam rumen, Teknik memanipulasi pakan dengan mencampurkan pakan berkualitas rendah (limbah pertanian/perkebunan) dengan pakan berkualitas tinggi merupakan langkah praktis untuk diimplementasikan. Beberapa jenis limbah tanaman hortikultura yang menghasilkan produksi metana yang rendah dalam proses fermentasi di rumen antara lain daun dan batang pisang, daun jambu, daun sirsak, daun nangka. Rendahnya produksi gas metana biasanya berbanding lurus dengan produksi gas hasil fermentasi dalam rumen. Untuk tetap menekan produksi metana dalam rumen tanpa membahayakan kondisi rumen, maka teknik manipulasi pakan perlu diperhatikan. Persentase bahan asal limbah perkebunan yang umumnya mengandung serat kasar tinggi juga mengandung senyawa anti metanaogen, harus diimbangi dengan bahan penyusun lain dalam ransum misalnya yang kaya protein seperti lamtoro ataupun menggunakan dedak sebagai sumber karbohidrat mudah tercerna.  Total jenis dan jumlah kandungan senyawa sekunder dari semua bahan yang akan digunakan dalam ransum juga penting untuk dipertimbangkan untuk menghindari efek negatif dari senyawa sekunder yang berfungsi sebagai anti metanaogen tersebut.Kata kunci: metana, ruminansia, limbah pertanian, hortikulturaABSTRACT Over the last decades, there has been much research conducted in reducing methane emission from ruminants considering that is 23 times more potent than carbon dioxide, and that the amount of methane produced represents a significant loss in gross energy for the ruminants. One alternative solution is through feed manipulation using horticultural waste, such as banana plant leaf and stem, guava leaf, soursop leaf, and jackfruit leaf, in such a way that it can reduce methane production while maintaining the ruminant’s productivity. Additionally, utilizing such waste is cost-effective and beneficial to reduce environmental footprints. This paper is a literature review that describes the role of horticultural waste to suppress methane production without depressing the overall rumen condition. Generally, the low amount of methane production in the rumen is in line with the total gas production from the fermentation process in the rumen. To eliminate methane production without harmful rumen conditions, the percentage of the horticultural waste needs to be adjusted with the other feed sources that will be mixed. For example, a high protein legume, Leucaena or an easily digestible carbohydrate source, rice bran.  It requires further experiments before feeding it to the real animals to get the proper amount in the ration and to prevent the effect of the anti-microbial compounds or anti-methanogenic compounds that may or may not interfere with the fermentation process in the rumen.Keywords: methane, ruminants, agricultural waste, horticulture

Abstract

Penyakit jembrana sangat berbahaya bagi sapi bali, khususnya di Kecamatan Tanete Riaja Kabupaten Barru. Dibutuhkan pencegahan secara massif dengan melakukan kegiatan pengabdian kepada kelompok peternak sapi. Tujuan dari kegiatan adalah untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan peternak mengenai penyakit jembrana, meningkatkan kesadaran peternak mengenai pentingnya pemberian vaksin JD-VET serta pentingnya pemberian vitamin pada sapi bali dalam rangka mengurangu outbreak penyakit Jembrana. Metode pengabdian yang digunakan dalam kegiatan ini yaitu observasi, sosialisasi, pelaksanaan kegiatan, dan evaluasi kegiatan. Hasil dari kegiatan pengabdian yang dilakukan adalah terdapat peningkatan pengetahuan peternak mengenai penyakit jembrana (kategori tinggi), pemberian vaksin JD-VET (kategori tinggi) dan pemberian vitamin pada sapi bali (kategori tinggi). Hal ini untuk memberikan kekebalan tubuh bagi ternak dengan tujuan untuk melindungi dan mengurangi outbreak kasus jembrana pada sapi bali di Kabupaten Barru Sulawesi Selatan.

Abstract

Horse breeding can provide various benefits in improving welfare, both for individuals and society as a whole. Horses can mainly be utilized as a means of transportation and a source of labor pulling carts. This study aims to determine public perception of the benefits of horse farming. This research was conducted from June to July 2022 in North Tolo Village, Kelara District, Jeneponto Regency. This research is descriptive quantitative with survey methods. Simple random sampling of 55 horse breeders. The data obtained were analyzed descriptively with frequency distribution and measurements using the Likert scale (strongly disagree – strongly agree) to determine public perceptions of the benefits caused by raising horses. Based on the results of the analysis, this study shows that the public responds strongly agree to the benefits of raising horses to improving welfare, consumption purposes, and as a workforce.

Abstract

Eggshells containing CaCO3 have potential as bioceramics for several tissue engineering applications. The content of CaCO3 converted into Ca(OH)2 can be used as a precursor to implant material. The purpose of the study was to compare two methods of converting CaO into Ca(OH)2 as the primary material for making hydroxyapatite. The method used is direct contact with air and dissolution with water. Hydroxyapatite synthesis using Ca(OH)2 is calcined from CaCO3 with a sintering temperature of 900 °C. The result of calcination is in the form of CaO. The stages of obtaining Ca(OH)2 by converting CaO using two methods, namely direct contact with air and dissolution with water. The XRD characterization results obtained that Ca(OH)2 results from direct contact with air show the formation of phase (portlandite), which is characterized by its presence at the highest typical 2θ angles = 18.18°, 28.68°, 34.30°, 47.40°, 50.92°, 54.16°, and 62.62°. The XRD Ca(OH)2 pattern with the distilled water distribution process shows the formation of a phase (portlandite) characterized by its presence at angles of 2θ = 18.18°, 28.68°, 34.30°, 47.40°, 50.92°, 54.16°, and 62.62 °. The results of FTIR Ca(OH)2 characterization of air contact and water dissolution showed strong O-H functional groups at wave numbers 3643 cm-1 and 3642 cm-1, C-O groups at 1487 cm-1 and 1483 cm-1. This suggests that both methods can convert CaO to Ca(OH)2, which synthesizes hydroxyapatite. The hydroxyapatite characterization results obtained have met the standard.

Abstract

This study aimed to identify the shell quality of Lohman brown strains. A total of 460 eggs aged 1–14 days from Lohman brown strains were collected from community farms in Gowa, South Sulawesi, Indonesia. The study variables included egg weight, egg index, shell weight, thickness, and percentage. Analysis was conducted using analysis of variance (ANOVA), and the difference in shelf life was analyzed using Duncan's multiple range test. The results revealed that egg weight, egg index, shell weight, shell thickness, and shell percentage significantly (P<0.05) affected egg age from 1 to 14 days. The study concluded that older Lohman Brown strain chicken eggs have reduced weight and shell thickness. Additionally, egg age significantly impacts shell weight, but shell thickness decreases as the egg ages. The color classification of eggshells over 14 days, as indicated by hex codes and sRGB values, shows significant variation, with the darkest brown occurring on days 6 and 11 and the lightest brown on day 1.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui tingkat kesukaan panelis terhadap telur itik asin dengan kombinasi bawang putih (Allium Sativum L.) dan Cabai Merah Keriting (Capsicum annum L.) dengan Metode injeksi. Pengujian dilakukan dengan cara uji organoleptik yang terdiri dari 2 faktor. Faktor pertama ekstrak bawang putih dan cabai merah keriting dengan konsentrasi yang berbeda (20%,40%,60% dan 80%) dan faktor kedua lama penyimpanan setelah di injeksi (3 jam, 4 jam, 5 jam dan 6 jam) dengan rancangan acak lengkap pola faktorial 3×3 dengan 3 kali ulangan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa uji mutu hedonik berpengaruh nyata (P>0.05) terhadap tekstur, tetapi tidak berpengaruh nyata terhadap warna Yolk, warna Albumin, rasa dan aroma, sedangkan uji hedonik tidak berpengaruh nyata (P>0.05) terhadap warna Yolk, warna Albumin, rasa, tekstur dan aroma.

Abstract

Developing beef cattle in Indonesia has great potential to meet the demand for beef, improve farmers' welfare, and positively contribute to the national economy. This study aims to identify development areas and analyze the growth rate of beef cattle in South Sulawesi Province. The sampling of areas was done purposively. The data analysis includes the Location Quotient (LQ) and the Growth Ratio Model (GRM). The study results indicate that Bulukumba, Sinjai, Maros, Bone, Barru, Wajo, and Enrekang Regencies are the leading (base) areas for beef cattle development in South Sulawesi Province. The growth rate of beef cattle that falls into classification I includes Selayar Islands, Bulukumba, Takalar, Gowa, Sinjai, Bone, Wajo, Pinrang, Tana Toraja, North Luwu, and East Luwu Regencies. Meanwhile, Bantaeng, Jeneponto, Maros, Pangkajene and Islands, Barru, Soppeng, Enrekang, and Luwu Regencies, as well as the cities of Makassar, Parepare, and Palopo, are included in classification II. This information on the growth rate of beef cattle serves as a basis for local governments to determine appropriate policies for sustainable beef cattle development in these areas. The growth of beef cattle to support livestock agribusiness can be achieved through the development of digital-based technology. This can significantly contribute to developing livestock agribusiness that is more efficient, sustainable, and profitable
