Abstract

A good and efficient generating system is essential to meet the growing demand of electricity. Stability is required in the generation process to operate optimally. One of important stability parameters is frequency stability. This stability can be achieved by controlling the frequency of power plant (i.e. steam power plant). Turbine-generator is one of the important parts in generating system where it converts mechanical energy into electrical energy. On a turbine-generator, frequency becomes the main reference parameter that identifies the normal or abnormal condition of power plant. The main problem in the power plant is sudden load changes that result in abnormal system frequency (to drop or to rise). This abnormal frequency may cause damage on part of power plant, therefore it is necessary to adjust the flow rate of steam into the turbine to obtain the nominal speed of turbine by putting a proper gain controller. The gain was estimated by using LQR method. It has been found from the results that power plant with proper gain controller is better to bring the frequency back to normal compare to without controller.Keywords : Frequency, steam power plant, Optimal Control, Matlab/Simulink, LQR

Abstract

Short circuit from phase to ground (ground fault) occurring in one of the stator windings of the synchronous generator can cause serious damage to the winding. Therefore, graund fault protection system is required to protect the stator winding of the generator. The method used is to analyze the magnitude of the ratio of the third harmonic voltage of the generator terminal and the generator neutral (V3n/(V3n+V3t)). This method is proven to be able to protect ground fault near neutral point or when low fault current occurred where conventional method is not able to react. To understand that the method is able to protect the fault near the neutral point then the simulation of faults were varied by the variation of fault resistance. It has been found from the result of the simulation that the method has capability to protect 60% stator winding from neutral. The 40% of unprotected winding will be protected by using conventional method in order to have a100% protection performance.Keywords: matlab, stator ground fault, the third harmonic protection

Abstract

Oxigen in the water is obtained from 2 processes specifically the first is, photosynthesis by water plants and the second is aeration which included in the diffusion process. Aerator is a device that serves to produce oxygen through the diffusion process for the needs of living creatures in the water. Aerators themselves have several types, those are ; gravity aerator (gravity influence), surface aerator (surface), diffusier aerator (mixing), turbine aerator (windmill), and combination. The aerators which designed here are aerator type of turbine (turbine aerator) similar to the aerator used in the research area generally. The purpose in the making of an aerator with this automatic system is to simplify the management and also to reduce the operational costs of the ponds. Aerator is made using 2 pieces of waterwheel with each pin having the same 6 blades with a mill used in ponds at the research site. As the basis of the automation system, the aerator is a smart relay programmed with 2 input which are the light sensor and the sensor temperature parameters in the programming obtained from the results of research on dissolved oxygen levels in the water. From the results of the testing, when dissolved oxygen levels are relatively high in the range of 30mg/L light intensity > 100,000 lux and for temperature < 350 C. Then the results of the data retrieval is made into the input parameters in the programming. The results of the device testing shows that the performance which is as expected. Aerator can work well in increasing oxygen from 8mg/L – 14.4mg/L in 45 minutes and the controller work as programmed when dissolved oxygen level below standard with indication of light intensity < 40 lux and temperature >350 C.Keyword : Aerator, Dissolve Oxygen, Smart Relay

Abstract

Budidaya ikan lele merupakan salah satu usaha di Pondok Pesantren Markiz Daarul Qur’an Kecamatan Lipat Kain, Kabupaten Kampar Kiri dengan tujuan untuk memenuhi kebutuhan sehari-hari bagi santri yang ada di pondok. Kegiatan utama pengabdian masyarakat ini adalah memanfaatkan teknologi tepat guna untuk pemberian pakan ikan lele di ponpes Markiz Daarul Qur’an sehingga kegiatan pemberian pakan ikan dapat diberikan secara teratur dan otomatis. Selain mempermudah dalam pemberian pakan juga mengurangi tingkat kanibalisme ikan lele, sehingga ikan lele dapat diproduksi dalam jumlah yang sama dengan padat tebarnya. Kegiatan ini dimulai dengan melakukan survei oleh tim pengabdian dan mahasiswa Kukerta. Kedatangan tim pengabdian disambut oleh pihak pesantren dan mengantar tim untuk melakukan pengecekan ke tempat kolam budidaya ikan lele yang menjadi tempat pemasangan alat teknologi tepat guna (TTG) pemberi pakan ikan otomatis. Kondisi kolam dalam keadaan baik. Padat tebar benih ikan lele yang dibudidayakan yaitu 750 ekor, dengan jadwal pemberian pakan pada tiga waktu yaitu, jam 07.00 WIB untuk pagi hari, jam 15.00 WIB untuk sore hari dan jam 21.00 WIB untuk malam hari. Penerapan TTG pemberian pakan ikan lele di ponpes ini secara tidak langsung telah membantu  biaya operasional dan penyelenggaraan pendidikan santrinya, karena kebanyakan berasal dari golongan masyarakat kurang mampu dan anak yatim dari berbagai usia.

Abstract

Artikel ini bertujuan untuk menggambarkan kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat yang dilakukan oleh tim pelaksana pengabdian Universitas Riau. Lokasi kegitan pengabdian ini bertempat di Gedung Politeknik Pelayaran Sumatera Barat (Poltekpel Sumbar). Adapun kegiatan yang dilaksanakan bertujuan untuk melakukan evaluasi penghematan konsumsi energi listrik pada bangunan tiga lantai di Politeknik tersebut. Secara umum, tahapa pengabdian ini terdiri atas survei awal dan survei lapangan, melakukan pengukuran system penerangan, menganalisis konsumsi energi system penerangan Gedung, dan membuat rekomendasi potensi penghematan konsumsi energi system penerangan. Program pengabdian ini telah dapat terlaksana dengan baik dimana pihak poltekpel sumatera barat teralibat aktif saat survei dan penyediaan data. Dari hasil survei dan evaluasi yang telah dilakukan dapat diketahui bahwa kuat pencahayaan penerangan saaat digunakan pada malam hari masih dibawah ketentuan yang disyaratkan. Potensi penghematan konsumsi energi listrik yang dapat diterapkan adalah metode pendekatan efisiensi energi yaitu dengan cara penggantian lampu TL dengan lampu LED. Penghematan energi listrik yang didapat mampu mencapai 2.393,1 kWh/bulan.

Abstract

Generally, solar PV Panel is constructed at fix tilted angle at different locations, such as: street light poles, rooftops, residential buildings, and canopy. The energy production from solar PV generation system is vary and influenced by site (location) and weather parameters. Solar PV generation analyzed in this research is Dual Axis Sun Tracker (DAST) Solar PV Generation. Dual axis sun tracker is a system controller to ensure solar PV panel following the sun path.  Furthermore, energy production from DAST-based solar PV generation were measured and collected using energy meter as well as by using automatic weather station for the weather parameters. From these measrument data, it can be correlated the influence of weather parameters to the energy production from DAST PV generation system. The correlation between weather parameters and energy production are analyzed by statistical analysis using SPSS software and multiple linear regression models. From the results and analysis, it can be shown the amount of energy production from DAST-based solar PV Generation are influenced by weather parameters, namely: temperature, humidity, ultraviolet radiation, and solar radiation with significant level up to 98.2%.

Abstract

Rooftop photovoltaic (RPV) systems are becoming increasingly popular as a source of renewable energy. One key factor that significantly affects the performance of RPV systems is the tilt angle of the solar panels. This study aims to determine the optimal tilt angle to maximize electricity production for the RPV system installed on academic building, Department of Electrical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, University of Riau. The research method used is the PVSyst simulation. The simulation data input was used as daily weather for one year. In this study, variations in roof tilt angles of 5°, 10°, 15°, 20°, and 25° were examined. The results show that the optimal tilt angles for this location are 5° and 10°. At a 5° tilt angle, the RPV can generate 247,128 kWh per year with a performance ratio (PR) of 83%. And then at a 10° tilt angle, the system can generate 248,012 kWh per year with a PR of 82%. Based on the simulation results, other tilt angles also produced higher energy outputs but yielded lower PR values. This study provides practical recommendations for designing RPV systems in regions with similar weather conditions.
