Abstract

The aim of this research is to analyze the Transitivity System of Epic Rap Battle of Presidency, a song by SkinnyIndonesian24, which was popular in 2019. To reveal the constituents of Transitivity System, it was considered to use theory by M.A.K. Halliday about Systemic Functional Linguistics in the branch of Ideational Metafunction, and the data were analyzed by using composite qualitative descriptive method where numbers and percentage were also involved. This research shows that the song is dominated by Material Process type for about 37 occurrences (40.2%) and it is followed by 33 Relational (35.9%), 12 Mental (13.0%), 7 Behavioral (7.6%), 2 Verbal (2.2%), and 1 Existential Process (1.1%). The dominance of Material Process indicates that the Epic Rap Battle of Presidency song is on the state of Material Process where the song is mainly talk about action and event. Abstract

Nowadays, most people throughout the world learn English because English has an important role in economics, politics, and other aspects, especially for facing free trade in the ASEAN Economic Community (MEA). However, Teaching English as second language becomes more challenging to teach, particularly for young learners. In this case, Information and communication technologies (ICTs) has a pivotal role in assisting teachers in teaching and learning English and for helping students to learn English easier. Numerous scholars, educators and teachers believe that ICT has positive effects in teaching and learning English. Through ICT by incorporating local cultures and values, gender equality, and the others, it will make the activities in classroom to be more interactive and interesting. Language, cultures and IT should be embedded and incorporated. Teachers can encourage children’s motivation and improve their English abilities through ICTs. This reviews some theories of using ICTs by integrating the diversity of cultures and values either local or national and international cultures and values in the teaching and learning process. It can assist teachers to establish their teaching and learning in classrooms to be more effective, interactive, and communicative.

Abstract

This research aims to describe moral value in One Piece Anime Movie of Chopper Plus Bloom in The Winter created by Eiichiro Oda. The researchers obtained the data from the movie Video through watching, screenshot the video and copied the every single of scene in the movie video. Researchers took data only the appropriate the data which contained the moral value. The method used of this research was descriptive analysis method. The result of the research found that moral value was intrinsic moral value and three types of moral values that were the issue of human relationship with themselves, the human relationship with others, and relationship with God. Three types of those moral values shown (1) Chopper couldn’t accepted by others and It was shot by inhabitants (2) Luffy as a captain of the straw hat Pirate crew took responsibility to his crew by taking care of his crew (3) Chopper was considered as disgrace of his family because chopper has got blue nose and he was isolated by others and he found his the first friend dr Hiluluk as a form gratitude. Abstract

This research was done to reveal the dominant form of Directive Speech Act (DSA) usage in Ready or Not Movie by Guy Busick and R Christopher Murphy, which was released in 2019. To reveal the form of directive speech act used by some characters in the conversation, it was considered to use theory by Yule about the directive speech act, and the data were analyzed by using a qualitative descriptive method. This current research shows that there was 52 (fifty-two) form of directive speech act used in the movie. The detail forms were 29 (twenty-nine) or 55.7% command, 20 (twenty) or 38.4% requests, 5 (five) or 9.6% suggestions, and 3 (three) or 5.7% warnings. Abstract

This research is entitled A Morphological Study of Affixes Used by Major and Minor Characters in the Novel Through the Looking Glass. The objectives of this research are to identify the affixes, to find out the derivation and inflection changes used by characters in the novel Through the Looking Glass and to find out the most dominant affixes. The method of this research is qualitative research. The results of this research are: (1) affixes found at major characters are suffix, prefix, and confix. Afterward, affixes found at minor characters are suffix and prefix, (2) this research found 40 derivations and 85 inflection used by major characters. Besides, this research found six derivations and 17 inflections used by minor characters, and (3) the most dominant affix found at characters are suffix. In total of suffixes used by major character, there were 31 –ing, 10 –ly, 42 –s, 3 –y, 3 –able, 2 –ation, - -d, 15 –ed, 4 –er, 3 –es, 1-est, 2 –ful, 1 –ination, 1 –ish, 3 –ment, 1 –ness, 1 –or, 1 –ous, 1 –t, and 1 -th. Afterward, suffix found at minor characters there were 1 –ance, 4 –ing, 2 –es, 10 –s, 1 –ly, and 1 –ed.

Abstract

The level of awareness about education in general and the ability to speak English is still low, especially in the millennial community, so it is necessary to make innovations in learning English. In order to support the implementation of English language learning in millennial communities during the COVID-19, it is necessary to apply an online method. During the pandemic, the government's efforts, one of which is face-to-face learning, cannot be done because it is to reduce and prevent the spread of COVID-19. Based on this explanation, our team held a devotion activity by the title "Implementation of Online Methods as Optimizing English Learning for Millennials in the COVID-19 Pandemic". The results of these activities ran well. It is hoped that this activity can improve the language skills of the millennial community by being much practice, especially English.

Abstract

Internet of things (IoT) merupakan topik yang banyak dikembangkan pada dekade terakhir. Pada saat ini, banyak pengembang teknologi membuat perangkat-perangkat pintar yang dapat mempermudah pekerjaan manusia. Sistem rumah pintar adalah salah satunya. Pada sistem rumah pintar, perangkatperangkat fisik dapat melakukan komunikasi melalui jaringan internet atau jaringan near cable lainnya untuk bertukar informasi atau melakukan perintah dari penghuni rumah. Agar bisa bertukar informasi maka perangkat fisik tersebut di integrasikan dengan sensor dan aktuator. Salah satu implementasi dari rumah pintar yaitu pengontrolan lampu yang dapat diaktifkan atau dinonaktifkan menggunakan perintah suara atau menggunakan gawai pengguna. Tujuan dari penelitian ini yaitu agar pengguna dapat mengontrol lampu rumah dengan menggunakan perintah suara dengan bantuan google assistant untuk mengenali kalimat yang di ucapkan oleh penghuni rumah. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yaitu IoT. Metode komunikasi berbasis IoT memungkinkan terjadinya pertukaran data antar device. Hasil dari penelitian ini yaitu dapat dibangun sistem kontrol lampu menggunakan Blynk-Google assistant. Pada sistem tersebut telah di tambahkan fitur untuk memantau konsumsi daya listrik pengguna. Dari hasil pengujian yang dilakukan maka didapatkan hasil bahwa presentase keberhasilan dari sistem tersebut yaitu 96,667%. Keberhasilan dari sistem tersebut dipengaruhi oleh kekuatan sinyal internet dan ketepatan dalam pengucapan kata yang telah terprogram.

Abstract

This research was carried out to investigate students’ anxiety in group discussion of learning modern cultural studies at Universitas Bumigora. It’s used to identify whether factors that may contribute to anxiety in learning of modern cultural studies based on students’ perspectives. The method used in this research is qualitative with case study approach seventeen anxious students were chosen as participants. The data gained by using observation and mediated interview. The result of this research showed that speaking or expressed opinion by using English via audio or camera of video on, incomprehensible input, lack of reading, students’ beliefs of learning modern cultural studies, and lack of preparation were the five factors that are able to contribute to the students’ anxiety in discussion activity of learning modern cultural studies

Abstract

This study reveals a common error in English department students writing in Indonesia, particularly in one of the private universities in Padang by extracting 25 narrative essays written by the students. The respondents are English department students of STBA Prayoga who are in the fourth semester. This research is conducted to identify the most common grammatical errors within 25 essays that were submitted as writing assignments. They were 16 women and 9 men students in the fourth semester in essay writing subject. The data were collected and identified the errors. The errors are classified into several categories and presented in frequency and percentage. The research results show that one of the most errors in students’ writing is errors in word usage and followed by errors in tense, 38%, and 28% respectively. Meanwhile, errors in using article, preposition, and conjunction are the same percentage, 8%. This research result has good potential for the students and lecturers in the future to identify and use another method in learning and teaching English.

Abstract

Learning speaking has many challenging, particularly for students who have obstacles speaking in public places. This study reports on a project designed by the students to evaluate the development of their speaking skill through the digital storytelling with mobile devices.  This study explores the perception of the learners on the digital storytelling in learning speaking and how the digital storytelling effects on students’ speaking. This research involved English students for Department of English Literature in the second semester who took speaking subject. A qualitative research was used in this study adapted a workshop approach and RASE (Resources, Activity, Support, and Evaluation) with three phases pre-production, production, and post-production and supported by a quantitative data by filling a questionnaire. The research results show that digital storytelling has positive impact to students because they believe that it encouraged them to learn writing, grammar, pronunciation, writing, and reading with the highest percentage of the students’ response is 55.6%. The learners also agree that the project can support them to be more confident and familiar with social phenomena involving women issues. This research is expected to contribute to the teaching and learning second or foreign language.
