Abstract

In this sophisticated era, the metal manufacturing process cannot be separated from welding process. Welding is a process of joining two metals using electrodes or filler metals which are commonly used in the world of fabrication and industry. Heat energy greatly affect the quality of the weld. Three parameter in heat energy is Ampere, Voltage and Heat input. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of heat input to value of hardness on materials Superduplex Stainless Steel S32750 with GTAW process welding. The hardness of the material is very important to determine the resistance of a material. In the fabrication process threre are still material that have a hardness value that exceeds the standard value of the material manufacture. The welding process is carried out from root, hotpass, fill pass and capping with five variations of heat input to five the specimen of the test object, then do the hardness test with Vickers with a test kit portable UCI Sonodur 3. The hardness test carried out on weld metal, base metal and heat affected zone. From the analysis carried out with five variations of heat input and comparing the hardness values at each test location, a low heat input of 0.97 kJ/mm resulted in the highest average hardness value of 299.2 HV in the base metal area, the area exposed to heat (HAZ) of 265.9 HV, and the weld metal area of 229.5 HV. Based on this, it can be concluded that the hardness value in GTAW welding with low heat input has the highest hardness value compared to high heat input.

Abstract

Penelitian ini dilakukan berdasarkan hasil survei dan investigasi pada industri elektronik yang berlokasi di Bintan. Perusahaan tersebut bergerak pada bidang Design and Manufacture of Precision Engineering Plastic Components and Electronic Connectors.

Abstract

A welding manipulator is a specialist apparatus engineered for welding extensive and elongated pipe plates on both interior and exterior surfaces, as well as in vertical and horizontal positions. During the assembly process, a challenge occurs when the platform is excessively distanced from the nozzle, complicating the operator's task with the welding manipulator. Brackets are an effective option to mitigate hazards and address issues throughout the cutting process. The aim of this research is to design and evaluate the safety of the bracket utilized for the platform component of the welding manipulator. The research utilizes Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to assess the simulated values of the safety factor and stress distribution. The findings demonstrate that the bracket design satisfies strength criteria, producing a maximum stress value of 98,327,504.00 N/m². The recorded maximum displacement is 1.094 mm, and the maximum strain is 0.00022. The computed safety factor is 2.1, indicating that the design parameters surpass established safety criteria.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the ideal heat input to remain within the constraints set in the preliminary Welding Procedure Specification (pWPS). Heat input greatly influences weld quality, mechanical properties, and residual stresses, yet accurate determination during Procedure Qualification Record (PQR) trials remains challenging. This research involved field data collection during PQR testing using two coupon specimens made of ASTM B564 UNS-N06625 and ASTM B444 UNS-N06625 Grade 1 materials, each with dimensions of 11.07 mm in thickness and 60.3 mm in diameter. The Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) process was applied in the 6G position. The acceptable heat input ranges in the pWPS are: Root (1.0–2.5 kJ/mm), Hot (1.0–2.6), Filler (0.69–1.39), and Cap (0.6–1.1). In coupon test 1, two passes failed: Pass 3 (1.51) and Pass 5 (1.43). In coupon test 2, three passes exceeded limits: Pass 4 (1.64–1.97), Pass 5 (1.42–1.72), and Pass 8 (1.19). To ensure compliance, recommended heat input parameters were formulated. For the root pass, use 97–103 A, 9–10 V, over 4 min 40 sec (2.04–2.41 kJ/mm). For the hot pass, use 98–106 A, 9–10 V, for 4 min 48 sec (1.85–2.23). The filler pass should use 79–97 A, 9–10 V, for 3 min 39 sec (1.01–1.37), and the cap pass 81–90 A, 9–10 V, for 3 min 17 sec (0.64–0.79). These parameters aim to achieve high-quality welds in line with pWPS specifications.

Abstract

The use of plastic is often found in human life. Therefore, many manufacturing companies are competing to increase the production and quality of their plastic products. One way to increase production is to redesign a Mold base so that the Mold has a larger production capacity than before. The increase in product demand from consumers, which was initially 65,000 pcs/month to 95,000 pcs/month, is also the background for conducting this research. The purpose of this study is to redesign the soft tool using the old Mold base. The design uses Siemens UG NX 5 software. The Mold used is a two-plate Mold. The manufacture of the core cavity uses NAK 80 steel and plastic raw material in the form of Polycarbonate (PC). At the end of the study, a simulation was carried out using the Moldex 3D Flow Mold software to see the cycle time of the old and new Mold injection processes. From the results of this study, production capacity increased from 67,804 pcs/month to 118,536 pcs/month resulting in twice as many products as the old Mold design, with an increase in cycle time of 14.37% longer than the old Mold design also ensuring the quality of the product is maintained.

Abstract

In the oil and gas industry, welding errors frequently necessitate replating. Preheating is a heat treatment method used to minimize temperature gradients between the weld area and its surroundings, thereby reducing the risk of weld defects. This study employs an experimental approach to evaluate the effect of preheating during rewelding and to assess the resulting mechanical properties of the weld metal. The experiment involved two rewelding cycles with preheating. The minimum preheating temperature was set at 50 ºC, and the minimum interpass temperature at 240 ºC. Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) was used to weld ASTM A36 carbon steel. The experimental procedures included tensile testing, bending testing, and macrostructural analysis. Welding was performed on A36 steel using E7016 and E7018 filler materials, with a current of 94.1 A and a groove configuration featuring a 30º bevel angle. The findings of this research can inform the development or revision of procedure qualification records (PQR) to meet industry quality and safety standards.
