Abstract

BUMDes is one of the income sources for the village managing assets, services, and other businesses for the village community's welfare. BUMDes empowers rural communities as an autonomous region in increasing productive efforts to alleviate poverty and unemployment. Therefore, the measurement of BUMDes's performance needs to be done through the level of local resources used and the implications of the results achieved. It was required to formulate appropriate development policies so that BUMDes have high competitiveness and fulfill their role in increasing the community's economic independence. This study was conducted in East Java BUMDes because East Java province is the third province with the largest number of BUMDes in Indonesia, so it was quite representative to represent the presence of BUMDes in Indonesia. This research used a quantitative approach carried out using the structural equation modeling-partial least square (SEM-PLS) method with the Resource-based View (RBV) approach to measure the effect of BUMDes resources used on its competitiveness. The analysis showed that structural capital had a positive effect on human capital and relational capital. Human capital had also been proven to have a positive effect on relational capital. The indicator that influenced competitive advantage was human capital. Training is needed to increase the human resources capacity, online marketing training and organizational reform, infrastructure, and professional management systems need to be done.

Abstract

The aims of this research on technical efficiency analysis of chili pepper farming in Ngantru Village are to analyze the production factors that affect the production of chili pepper, the level of technical efficiency, and the factors that cause the technical inefficiency. This research uses Stochastic Frontier Analysis (SFA). The sample calculation uses the Parel formula, obtained as many as 40 respondents. The results showed that there were 5 production factors that had a significant effect on the production of chili pepper, land area and manure with coefficients of 0.230 and 0.386 with α = 5%, labor with coefficients of 0.192 with α = 10%, seeds and chemical fertilizers with coefficient of 0.193 and 0.159 with α = 15%. On average, chili pepper farmers in Ngantru Village are not technically efficient with the average of technical efficiency value at 0.67, with a maximum value of 0.995 and a minimum value of 0.34. Socio-economic factors that affect technical inefficiency are the level of education, experience, age, and agricultural extention. Education and experience have a significant effect on α = 5% with a negative coefficient. Agricultural extension has a significant effect on α = 10% with a negative coefficient sign, which means that education, experience and counseling can increase the level of technical efficiency. While the age factor has a significant effect on α = 5% with a positive coefficient, which means that the age factor of farmers can increase technical inefficiency.

Abstract

Agrotourism has an important role in developing the economy and has been a source of job opportunities in the villages in Indonesia. Many BUMDes’ (Township and Village Enter-prises/TVEs) manage agrotourism as their core businesses. Meanwhile, most of them have experienced a turnover-declining during the Covid-19 pandemic and need new managerial strategies to survive this pandemic. Human resource holds a strategic function in this problem since most of the BUMDes recruits their employers locally since it is designed to reduce unemployment in the village while utilizing the resources possessed by their villages. Contrarily, the pandemic of Covid-19 has given a severe impact on agrotourism in Indonesia and has pushed BUMDes’ to cut their employer numbers for reasons of efficiency. This study aimed to describe the human resources management conducted by BUMDes during the Covid-19 Pandemic, employing a qualitative approach with the chairman and employees of BUMDes as the informants. Data from this research were analyzed by Miles and Huberman’s model. The research was held on agrotourism-based BUMDes in Malang and Batu. The results indicated that the BUMDes’ managers used the strategy of the temporary off-work system when the government implemented community activity restrictions (PPKM). During this off-work time, BUMDes did not pay their employees but gave a food package as social assistance to the workers. It proved that BUMDes was applying a social systems approach in managing their employees during the pandemic to hold its function as one of the economic pillars for villagers.

Abstract

Increasing the amount of rice production is needed to meet the needs of rice as the main food of the Indonesian people. One of the efforts that can be made to increase production and or productivity is to use inputs efficiently. Efficient use of inputs can be influenced by the managerial ability of farmers, where the managerial ability of farmers can have an impact on technical inefficiency. Farmers in Babaan Hamlet as the research location are suspected to be technically inefficient. Some of the causes include management capabilities derived from social factors and the ability to adapt to climate change. Therefore, the objectives of this study are to analyze the factors that affect rice production, analyze the technical efficiency of rice farming in Babaan Hamlet, and analyze the factors that affect technical inefficiency. The method used to answer the first and second objectives is Stochastic Frontier Analysis (SFA) with Cobb Douglass production function and Maximum Likelihood Estimation (MLE) approach. While the third objective was answered by using tobit regression analysis. The results showed that rice farming in Babaan Hamlet has not been technically efficient, which has an average of 58% so that it can still be increased by 42%. Factors that positively affect the amount of production are land area and the amount of pesticides. Meanwhile, social factors that negatively affect inefficiency include education and frequency of participation in counseling. On the other hand, the number of adaptation strategies to climate change has a positive effect on technical inefficiency.

Abstract

Senggreng Village is one of the areas in Sumber Pucung District, Malang Regency, promising to be developed in agriculture, animal husbandry, fisheries, and agro-tourism. Abundant water resources mainly support the fisheries and agriculture potency due to its position near the Sutami Dam. One of the community groups in Senggreng Village, "Sumber Duren", is "engaged in developing a small amusement park that integrates culinary, fishing park and freshwater fish farming business, managed through a cage system. Regardless of its considerable potency, fish farming has not been carried out intensively, especially due to the high prices of commercial fish feed. Therefore, this community service team proposed a solution by initiating mealworm (Tenebrio molitor) cultivation as a cheap, high-protein, and sustainable source of fish feed to increase crop yields. Experienced mealworm practitioners also provided intensive mealworm cultivation education, training, and profitable business planning. Through this program, the community group "Sumber Duren" has been" successful in cultivating mealworms starting from the seedling phase to becoming broodstock and laying eggs. Based on the questionnaire data collection, most community group members stated that this community service activity helped provide new knowledge interested in cultivating alternative feeds, and 80% of respondents expected the activity to continue in the following years.

Abstract

This study explores the relationship between climate change adaptation strategies and household food security among rice farmers in Jenggolo Village, Kepanjen District, Malang Regency. Unlike previous research that primarily examines the impact of climate change on agricultural productivity, this study focuses on how adaptation strategies influence household-level food security. Using descriptive analysis, the Household Food Insecurity Access Scale (HFIAS), Propensity Score Matching (PSM), and probit regression, the study identifies adaptation strategies, measures food security levels, and evaluates factors affecting farmers' decisions to adopt these strategies. Results show that farmers adopting intensive adaptation strategies (three or more) tend to have better food security compared to those adopting fewer strategies. Socio-demographic factors, such as family size, education, participation in farmer groups, and land ownership, significantly influence these decisions. Strengthening farmer access to resources and comprehensive adaptation efforts is essential to improving household food security amid ongoing climate risks.
