Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a non-communicable disease with a high prevalence in Indonesia and is a public health problem that requires continuous prevention efforts. This study aims to describe the effectiveness of community-based interventions in increasing public knowledge and awareness regarding DM prevention. The research design used was descriptive with a community-based participatory approach. The study population included the community in the Field Learning Experience (PBL) activity area of ​​students of the Faculty of Public Health, UIN North Sumatra in July–August 2025. The sample consisted of 525 participants divided into several target groups, including the elderly, elementary and junior high school students, women in religious schools, and DM sufferers. The sampling technique was purposive according to the activity targets. The research variables included increasing knowledge and awareness regarding DM prevention. Data were collected through observation, short questionnaires, and recording of activity results, then analyzed descriptively and presented as a percentage. The results showed that the success rate of the intervention varied between 70–90%, with the highest achievement in low-sugar snack education (90%) and the lowest in leaflet distribution (70%). The conclusion shows that community-based promotive and preventive interventions are effective in increasing health literacy and public awareness regarding DM prevention.

Abstract

Wasting is a nutritional status problem where a toddler's weight decreases drastically, or even below the normal range where the toddler's weight does not match his height or z score. Objective: The aim of this research is to determine the relationship between mothers' knowledge, attitudes and actions regarding balanced nutrition with the incidence of wasting in toddlers in Medan Deli District, Medan City. Method: The type of research used is analytical research with a cross sectional approach. The population in this study was 32 mothers who had wasting toddlers. The samples used in the research were mothers who had wasting toddlers aged 24 months - 59 months in the work area of the Medan Deli Health Center, Medan City, totaling 32 respondents using total sampling techniques. Results: The research results that have been collected using questionnaires and data analyzed using univariate and bivariate analysis show that the majority of mothers have sufficient knowledge, 16 respondents (50.0%), 16 respondents (50.0%) have positive and negative attitudes and 27 respondents (84.4%) had good actions. The chi square test shows that there is a relationship between mothers' knowledge about balanced nutrition and the incidence of wasting in toddlers, p = 0.048, there is a relationship between mothers' attitudes about balanced nutrition and the incidence of wasting in toddlers, p = 0.033, and there is a relationship between mothers' attitudes about balanced nutrition and the incidence of wasting. in toddlers p = 0.033. There is a relationship between maternal actions regarding balanced nutrition and the incidence of wasting in toddlers, p = 0.032. Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between mothers' knowledge, attitudes and actions regarding balanced nutrition and the incidence of wasting in toddlers in Medan Deli District, Medan City.

Abstract

In the 2021 Indonesian Nutritional Status Study, there are 5 districts/cities with the highest stunting in the province of North Sumatra, namely South Tapanuli, Padang Lawas, Mandailing Natal, Pakpak Bharat, Tapanuli Tengah, Asahan Regency ranked 15th out of 33 City Districts. Stunted toddlers at the Meranti Health Center will experience an increase of 7 cases in 2022 to 8 cases in 2023. This research aims to analyze the implementation of the 1000 HPK program policy at the Meranti Health Center. Descriptive qualitative research method carried out in March 2023. Research informants include the Head of the Meranti Community Health Center, Nutrition Coordinator, KIA Coordinator, Promkes Coordinator, Cadres and Mothers of Stunting Toddlers. Data were collected using observation, in-depth interviews and documentation studies. The results of research on the input of inadequate human resources and facilities/infrastructure at the Meranti health center. In the process, ANC examinations, monitoring the growth of toddlers, providing immunizations, PMT, and counseling on stunting have gone well, although there are obstacles in their implementation. In terms of output, many programs have achieved targets. However, it is necessary to increase programs to prevent stunting so that they can be maximized.

Abstract

Yellow pumpkin has a very high fiber content. Fiber is very good when used in making a soft diet in maintaining health and can launch metabolism The use of yellow pumpkin as flour in making steamed sponges has not been done much research on its nutritional value and advantages. Yellow pumpkin can be processed into free gluteen flour so that it is safe for consumption by the public, facilitates storage and can increase selling value. One bakery product that allows to add or replace some of the flour is steamed sponge. With the creation of the innovation of steamed sponges, yellow pumpkin flour is expected to be a healthy snack high in fiber. This study aims to obtain organoleptic test results and fiber content from steamed sponges made from yellow pumpkin flour. The method used was a true experiment with the Posttest Only Control Group design, which was then analyzed descriptively. This research consists of three stages, namely product development, product acceptance testing by panelists, and fiber content testing at the Organic Chemistry laboratory of FMIPA University of North Sumatra. The results of organoleptic tests obtained a very liking level for color by 48.0%, very liking for aroma by 36.0%, liking texture by 44.0% and a very liking level for taste by 36.0%. The results of the fiber content test were obtained at 55.14% from the mass of 33.58 grams of steamed sponge yellow pumpkin flour. The conclusion that based on the overall results of organoleptic tests of steamed sponge yellow pumpkin flour can be accepted by the public in terms of color, aroma, texture, and taste.

Abstract

Nutritional problems in toddlers are still a major problem in the population order, one of which is stunting which is still a major nutritional problem in developing countries such as Indonesia and even still a serious global problem. The purpose of the study was to determine the factors causing stunting in toddlers in the working area of the Puskesmas Terjun, Medan Marelan District. This study used analytical survey research using a case-control design. The population of cases is mothers who have toddlers <5 years old who are stunted in the working area of the Puskesmas Waterfall Medan Marelan District, which has 23 stunting cases. Sampling is done by total sampling technique. Case and control samples were taken based on a ratio of 1: 2 with a total sample of 69 respondents. The results showed that there was a relationship between birth length (p-value 0.000), exclusive breastfeeding (p-value 0.000), maternal height (p-value 0.000), and maternal education (p-value 0.001) on the incidence of stunting. There was no relationship between birth weight (p-value 0.081) and birth distance (p-value 0.085) with the incidence of stunting in toddlers. This study concludes that there is a relationship between birth length, exclusive breastfeeding, maternal height, and maternal education with the incidence of stunting in the work area of the Puskesmas Waterfall, Medan Maryland District. It is recommended that researchers conduct further research by adding direct causal variables to enrich information about the factors that cause stunting in toddlers.

Abstract

MOCAF is a flour product that uses the principle of modifying fermented cassava cells and has a higher fiber content than wheat flour. The purpose of this study was to fortify fiber in muffin products by modifying using MOCAF flour and adding oatmeal, and organoleptic acceptable. This research method is a true experimental and Post-test only control group design. This research was conducted in 3 stages, namely the product development stage, acceptability test, and fiber content test. Fiber test results on modified muffins of 1.85 grams per 100 grams (1.85%). Based on the overall results, the acceptance test of modified muffins was acceptable in the community and the color aspect became the most desirable aspect by the panelists and fiber fortification on modified muffins was declared successful due to the increase in fiber content. Further research needs to be done in fiber fortification in muffin products, in order to further increase the fiber content in muffins significantly.

Abstract

Avocado seeds contain a lot of starch and can be processed into foods such as avocado seed flour (TBA). TBA is classified as low-protein flour but has a lot of nutritional content, so it can be made into noodles or other food products. This research aimed to determine the acceptability of avocado seed flour nuggets with chicken, catfish, and shrimp variants. The research design in this study is a pure experiment with a simple experimental design. A simple experimental design is also called a posttest-only control group design. This research design was a nugget design with 25% avocado seed flour and 25% tapioca flour with three treatments (three flavor variants), chicken, catfish, and shrimp (50%). The results of this study showed that there were significant differences in the chicken, catfish, and shrimp nugget variants based on color categories because the results were p<0.05. In terms of texture, the test shows a p-value of >0.05, which means that there is no real difference between the three variants of avocado seed nuggets. In conclusion, this research is based on the results of the ANOVA test on avocado seed nuggets with chicken, catfish, and shrimp variants. The results obtained were that there were real differences in the chicken, catfish, and shrimp nugget variants based on the color, taste, and aroma categories. Meanwhile, in the texture category, the test results obtained were that there were no real differences between the three avocado seed nugget variants.

Abstract

This study explores the potential of mackerel tuna as a nutritious complementary food source (MPASI) due to its rich protein content and high availability, which could play a crucial role in a balanced diet for toddlers. The aim of this research is to investigate the potential of mackerel tuna as a protein source in nutritious complementary foods for breastfeeding infants. This study employs experimental and observational methods to evaluate the potential of mackerel tuna as a complementary food. The results are analyzed descriptively, and protein content analysis is conducted on mackerel tuna nuggets. The research is carried out in three stages: recipe creation, recipe modification trials, and protein content testing. Protein content analysis, conducted at the Biochemistry Laboratory of FMIPA, Universitas Sumatera Utara, using spectrophotometry on mackerel tuna nugget samples, showed a protein content of 0.35 grams per gram, indicating 35 grams of protein in 100 grams of nuggets. Processed mackerel tuna in the form of nuggets represents a promising variation of MPASI menu rich in protein content. Protein is crucial for supporting the growth and development of toddlers as it is a primary nutrient essential for physical growth, including bone and muscle development. Additionally, protein plays a role in brain development, enhancing cognitive function in toddlers.

Abstract

In 2023, there will be 454 prospective brides and grooms in the city of pematangsiantar with a total of 454 female brides and grooms. Based on Tetanus Toxoid (TT) immunization, in 2023 the target number of non-pregnant women of childbearing age is 43.333 with the number immunized being 351 with a percentage of 0,81%. This shows that Tetanus Toxoid (TT) immunization among women of childbearing age and prospective brides in Pematangsiantar City is still very low. The aim of this research is to determine the relationship between factors in the utilization of Tetanus Toxoid (TT) immunization program services among prospective brides in Pematangsiantar city. The type of research used is quantitative cross sectional design. The research was conducted in the city of pematangsiantar. The population was 454 female cats, the sample was 48 people, the sample was obtained using the lemeshow formula. Data analysis is univariate analysis and bivariate analysis (chi-square test) using the SPSS application. The result of the reseach show that variables related to Tetanus Toxoid (TT) immunization in prospective brides are Employment (p=0.311), Education Level (p=0.131), Knowledge (p=0.035), Attitude (p=0.031), Confidence in Health Services (p=0.933) and Ease of Information (p-value= 0.000). The most dominant variable related is ease of information. Conclusion in this study there are 3 factors related to the Tetanus Toxoid (TT) immunization program, namely Knowledge, Attitude and Ease of Information. The benefit of this research can be used as input in order to improve the quality of health service for the community.

Abstract

Changing times emerge along with advances in technology created by humans, the more sophisticated technology is, the greater its influence on individuals throughout the world and the more individuals who want to have and want to be able to master sophisticated technology. Learning concentration is the main asset for students in receiving material and is an indicator of successful implementation of learning. Theoretically, if student concentration is low, it will result in low quality activities and can lead to a lack of seriousness in learning. The method used to obtain the research results contained in this article is qualitative with a case study approach. Peliti has carried out direct observations in Kedai Damar Village, Tebing Tinggi District, Serdang Bedagai Regency, this process took place from 18 July to 18 August 2023. The results show that more than half have knowledge about gadgets, but do not know how to use gadgets properly. correct, thus disturbing the student's concentration.
