Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate the QOL in patients with vitiligo. Methods: This study included 30 patients with vitiligo. All the patients filled out questionnaires Skindex- 29. Data were compiled and analyzed statistically. Results: Among the 30 vitiligo patients, 73,3 % were women and 26,7 % were men. Mean age of patients were 40.53 ± 12. 91 years old. The mean duration of vitiligo was 9.07 ± 7.643 years. The mean total Skindex-29 score of the subjects was 24.68 ± 7,72. There was significant difference according to age’s group (p = 0,035) and sex (p = 0,01) but there is no significant difference according to duration of disease’s group (p = 0,582). Conclusions: The study findings showed that vitiligo has a significant effect on the patients’ QOL. It seems counselling is needed as part of treatment in vitiligo patients.

Abstract

Chronic kidney failure is a public health problem throughout the world, and the number of sufferers is increasing. Chronic kidney failure can cause clinical symptoms in various body systems, one of which is a disorder in the skin that becomes dry (uremic). This study aimed to examine the effect of Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO) on the skin moisture among uremic patients undergoing hemodialysis. This type of research is a quasi-experiment with pre-test and post-test equivalent control group. The study was conducted at the Regional General Hospital, Dr. RM. Djoelham Binjai. The study population was 80 people, divided into 2 sample groups of 40 people each. The results showed that there was a significant effect of skin moisture on the intervention group before and after being given Virgin Coconut Oil, p = 0.000<0.05; There was a significant effect of skin moisture in the control group before and after lotion (post-test), p = 0.000<0.05. There is no need for special emulsions such as VCO to moisturize the skin in uremic patients undergoing hemodialysis because using ordinary lotions can moisturize the skin. It must be used regularly, twice a day after bathing. The lotion used must also be a lotion that does not contain mercury and chemicals that can harm the skin. To increase the skin's moisture becomes normal, giving lotion is better than VCO because by providing lotion, more skin becomes normal, while using VCO, the skin becomes more oily. It is recommended to health workers (doctors, nurses) to practice correctly and appropriately how to administer Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO) to uremic patients undergoing hemodialysis to be done at home

Abstract

Background: Acne vulgaris is a chronic inflammation of pilosebaceous follicle that can spontaneously heal with clinical manifestations such as blackhead, papules, pustules, nodule, and cyst on the face, upper chest, arms, and back. Until now, the effect of lipid metabolism on sebaceous gland secretions in the pathogenesis of acne vulgaris is still under research.Materials and Methods: An analytic observational study with cross sectional design involving 30 acne vulgaris and 30 control subjects was conducted. Blood samples were taken from subjects and lipid profile levels were measured. The data were then statistically analyzed. Results: From this research, there was no significant association between lipid profiles with acne vulgaris. There was not any significant difference between the acne vulgaris and the control subjects for total cholesterol, High Density Lipoprotein (HDL), Low Density Lipoprotein (LDL) and triglyceride levels (p>0.05).Conclusion: There is no significant association between lipid profiles levels and acne vulgaris. Keywords: acne vulgaris, lipid profiles, total cholesterol, HDL, LDL, triglyceride

Abstract

Background: Vulvovaginal candidiasis is an infection caused by Candida sp. especially Candida albicans, with symptoms include pruritus, dyspareunia, dysuria, and abnormal vaginal discharge. It is estimated that 75% women experience one episode of vulvovaginal candidiasis and 40-45% experience two or more episodes. The high prevalence of vulvovaginal candidiasis has become a problem. Antifungal resistance also increases risk to recurrent vulvovaginal candidiasis. Proven adjuvant therapy to lower risk of recurrent vulvovaginal candidiasis is needed. Vitamin D is potentially used as adjuvant therapy, indicated by its liposolubility which disrupt the integrity of Candida albicans’ cell membrane. Methods: Search of literature was conducted on 9 databases according to clinical question and appropriate keywords. Articles were selected according to inclusion and exclusion criteria, the selected articles were critically appraised for its validity, importance, and applicability. Results: One article fulfills the inclusion criteria and components of critical appraisal. Conclusion: Vitamin D as adjuvant in treatment of vulvovaginal candidiasis is proven to lower recurrent vulvovaginal candidiasis risk.

Abstract

This study aims to develop guidelines for decubitus ulcers in the ICU at USU Hospital. This type of research is action research in 1 cycle. The instrument used was a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) guide and a nurse's knowledge questionnaire about decubitus ulcers. Participants in this study were 15 nurses who were selected by purposive sampling. The results showed that the percentage value before the formulation of guidelines for the prevention of decubitus ulcers was 66.67% which stated that the level of knowledge was good and 33.33%, which noted that the level of knowledge was sufficient and the level of expertise lacked as much as 0%. After the formulation of the guidelines, the results were 93.4%, where the nurses' level of knowledge was declared good. The level of expertise of nurses that was reported sufficient was 6.6% and the level of expertise of nurses that was insufficient was 0%. In conclusion, with the implementation of decubitus ulcers guidelines, ICU nurses' knowledge of decubitus ulcers prevention has increased. The components of the decubitus ulcers guide consist of the concept of a decubitus ulcers, scope and Standard Operating Procedure (SOP).
