Abstract

The population of the pelagic thresher shark (Alopias pelagicus) in Indonesian waters continues to decline due to intense fishing pressure and weak implementation of conservation policies. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of Indonesia’s thresher shark conservation policies and to assess the role of local communities in supporting conservation efforts. A qualitative descriptive approach was applied through literature review, policy document analysis, and interviews with relevant stakeholders, including fishers, local authorities, and conservation organizations. Data were analyzed using content analysis to identify gaps between policy formulation and field implementation. The findings show that although national regulations protect A. pelagicus, their enforcement remains limited due to inadequate monitoring, lack of public awareness, and insufficient livelihood alternatives for fishers. Local communities possess significant potential to contribute to conservation through community-based monitoring and marine ecotourism initiatives. The study concludes that successful conservation of the thresher shark requires stronger synergy between national policies and local initiatives. Key recommendations include strengthening community capacity, enhancing law enforcement, and developing sustainable economic incentives that support conservation.

Abstract

Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO) is extracted coconut oil containing medium chain fatty acids that have been believed to have many health functions. These fatty acids are easily digested and absorbed by the intestines because the size of the molecules is relatively small so that they can be directly burned by the body to produce energy. In addition, VCO contains lauric acid which can dissolve the virus membrane in the form of lipids so that it will interfere with the immunity of the virus, so that the virus becomes inactive. VCO is processed without heating, no additional chemicals, dyes, and preservatives so that it can survive as pure vegetable oil so that it does not change the composition or characteristics of the oil. VCO has high economic value. The manufacturing process is easy. The methods in this Community Service are Counseling, direct Practice and discussion. It is hoped that the use of coconuts will not only be sold in the form of unprocessed fruit but coconuts are processed into pure coconut oil or Virgin Coconut Oil and can be developed more widely through group entrepreneurship programs so as to increase the income of the congregation, especially the Women's group in the GMIT Marturia Oesapa Selatan Congregation, Kelapa Lima District, Kupang City.Keyword: coconut fruit; processing; utilization; virgin coconut oil Abstrak.

Abstract

This community service initiative aims to empower young generations and housewives in Manulai II Village, Alak District, Kupang City, through the development of homemade shrimp paste sambal production as a creative economic opportunity. In the context of contemporary economic dynamics characterized by digitalization and changing consumption patterns, the micro-culinary sector offers significant potential for empowerment, although young generations and housewives often face limitations in access to technical knowledge, capital, and marketing strategies. Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency of East Nusa Tenggara Province (2023), the fisheries sector contributes 12% to the regional GRDP, with abundant rebon fish production that has not yet been fully utilized innovatively. The main objectives of the activity are to enhance creative skills in shrimp paste sambal production, form independent micro-business groups, and contribute to inclusive local economic growth. The applied methods include a participatory approach with stages of preparation, training, mentoring, and evaluation over six months, involving 30 participants and collaboration with local stakeholders. The results indicate a 75% increase in technical knowledge, the formation of 3-5 independent business groups with an initial sales volume of 200 kg per month, and an average 20-30% increase in household income. The discussion highlights the effectiveness of Freire's (1970) model in critical education and the relevance of Schumpeter's (1934) innovation theory in opening new market opportunities. The conclusion emphasizes that this initiative strengthens community economic resilience and supports sustainable development agendas, with recommendations for long-term monitoring to ensure business sustainability.

Abstract

Liquid organic fertilizer (LOF) is a fertilizer produced through the fermentation of organic materials that contains complete nutrients and is easily absorbed by plants. The use of LOF offers a solution to reduce dependency on chemical fertilizers, which have negative impacts on soil fertility. This study was motivated by the need for environmentally friendly fertilization technology to improve the growth and yield of green amaranth (Amaranthus tricolor L.). The research was conducted from March to May 2025. The objective of this study was to determine the effect of applying TOP G2 LOF at different doses on the growth and yield of green amaranth, as well as to identify the most effective dosage. The method used was a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with four treatments: P0 (control), P1 (5 ml/L), P2 (10 ml/L), and P3 (15 ml/L), each replicated three times. The observed parameters included plant height and number of leaves. Data were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA) and the Least Significant Difference (LSD) test at the 5% significance level. The results showed that the application of TOP G2 LOF had a significant effect on the number of leaves and plant height. The P3 treatment (15 ml/L) produced the best results with an average plant height of 97.33 cm and an average of 23.67 leaves. Thus, the 15 ml/L dosage of TOP G2 LOF was effective in enhancing plant growth.
