Abstract

This study was conducted with the aim of 1) analyzing the effectiveness of coconut water on the production of microgreen lettuce. 2) to get the optimal plant density level in producing microgreen lettuce. 3) To analyze the interaction of coconut water and plant density on microgreen lettuce production. The research was conducted at Fresco Organic Farm, Paccellekang Village, Patallassang District, Gowa Regency, South Sulawesi Province. The research took place from May to August 2024. This study used a completely randomized design (CRD) two-factor factorial pattern. The first factor is coconut water with four levels of treatment, namely without coconut water (Control), coconut water 100 ml, 200 ml, and 300 ml. The second factor is the plant density level with three treatment levels, namely 100 seeds, 150 seeds, and 200 seeds. 12 treatment combinations were repeated three times, resulting in 36 experimental units. The parameters observed were plant height, number of leaves, fresh weight, fresh weight of consumption, and protein content. The results showed that applying coconut water as much as 100 ml gave the most effective results on plant height of 7.29 cm, fresh weight of 8.42 g, and fresh weight of consumption of 7.64 g. Plant density level produced the best effect on plant height. The level of plant density produced the best effect on plant height, which was 7.14 cm, fresh weight of 9.27 g, and fresh weight of consumption of 8.35 g. The interaction of coconut water and plant density resulted in the best effect on plant height. The interaction of coconut water and plant density level had no significant effect on the production of microgreen lettuce.

Abstract

Traditional institutions function to regulate the order of community lives in the political, economic, socio-cultural, and security fields. This study aims to describe the structure of traditional institutions and explain the role of these institutions in supporting food security for small island communities. The research was carried out in April-December 2021 in the Islands of Wakatobi Regency, Southeast Sulawesi Province, Indonesia. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and literature study with the data triangulation method and analyzed qualitatively. The results show that traditional institutions such as Sara Liya on Wangi-Wangi Island and Sarano Wali on Binongko Island have a management structure that is directly responsible for the community's food security system. Sara plays a role as the person in charge of community welfare, regulates the control and management of agricultural/fishery land, organizes rituals to maintain the stability of food production, and regulates the distribution system and food consumption. Based on the results of this study, it is recommended that the community continue to trust Sara as a traditional institution that can partner with the government. Sara's management is expected to have high adaptability to changing community conditions while still maintaining the values of local wisdom. In addition, the government is expected to provide support for strengthening customary institutions

Abstract

The income of vegetable farmers in Wakuli Village comes from production results and the prices received by farmers. Efficient management and increased production should have an impact on farmer welfare. However, in reality the exchange rate and the existence of farmers are often neglected in the economic system, especially in the distribution system for vegetable crops, so they are unable to provide positive profits. The aim of this research is to analyze the role of middlemen from the perspective of vegetable farmers and to determine the type of dependency of vegetable farmers as patron-clients. The informants in this research consisted of 1 key informant from village officials, the main informant consisted of 7 vegetable farmers and 3 middlemen, as well as 1 supporting informant from the head of the farmer group. The data collection techniques used in this research are observation, interviews and documentation. The instruments in this research were an interview guide, writing tools and recording equipment. Data analysis uses the Miles and Huberman interactive data analysis model. The research results show that middlemen in agricultural activities in Wakuli Village have an active role as capital owners, buyers and marketers. There are several types of middleman roles that are considered to be able to help farmers in dealing with economic and social problems. The role of the middleman covers all aspects (production, marketing, financial and social) needed by farmers in Wakuli Village. In the vegetable production process, farmers depend on capital provided by middlemen and in the marketing process the vegetables are sold to middlemen. Of all the farmers who were informants in this research, on average, they channeled their vegetable harvests to middlemen.

Abstract

Coastal areas and small island communities in the Wakatobi archipelago carry out traditional agriculture. Farming is held with a rainfed system on dry land and a dry climate. This system theoretically has non-optimal productivity. Even so, farmers still farm because extrinsic motivation influences how they manage farming land. The productivity of their farms is relatively able to meet the needs of farmers. This study aims to determine extrinsically motivations attached to the traditional agricultural systems of the Binongko community in the Wakatobi Islands. The research lasted eight months, from June 2019 to February 2020. The research data was collected with the triangulation method by observation, interviews, and literature study. The research informants were determined purposively with a chain information collection system. The data were analysed qualitatively using a phenomenological approach. Based on the results of this study, it is known that the Binongko Island community has an extrinsic motivation attached to traditional farming systems, namely, to obtain agricultural products economically, socially, and ecologically. In addition, farmers are also extrinsically motivated by the support from the government. These local wisdom techniques are implemented starting from land preparation and clearing, planting, maintenance, harvesting and post-harvesting.

Abstract

The oral tradition of kaƃanti pengantar tidur (lullaby kaƃanti) is a cultural expression of the Wangi-Wangi community, functioning not only as a medium to lull children to sleep but also as a vehicle for transmitting life values. This study aims to explain the representation of agriculture in the oral tradition of kaƃanti lullabies in the Wangi-Wangi community, identify and analyze the metaphors used to describe aspects of agriculture, and interpret the cultural meaning of these metaphors within the context of the Wangi-Wangi community's cultural perspective. Using a qualitative descriptive approach and ethnolinguistic methods, data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, documentation, and textual analysis of kaƃanti songs. The findings reveal that kaƃanti contains various agricultural metaphors that reflect the worldview of an agrarian society, such as metaphors related to fertility, life cycles, productive age, and the value of hard work. Agricultural symbols are represented through depictions of the body, plants, and crops, emphasizing the deep connection between humans and nature. These results confirm that kaƃanti carries not only aesthetic value but also functions as a medium for social reflection and meaning-making in the local Wangi-Wangi culture. This study recommends preserving kaƃanti as a cultural heritage and a valuable source of education based on local wisdom.

Abstract

This study examines the discursive strategies employed in Prabowo Subianto’s inaugural speech following his designation as the elected President of Indonesia in 2024. Using Teun A. van Dijk’s Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) the study argues that the speech functions as a strategic instrument to construct political legitimacy and reconcile post-election polarization through a structured set of linguistic strategies. The primary data consist of the full transcript of the speech delivered at the General Elections Commission (KPU) Hall, analyzed through three dimensions of van Dijk’s model: textual structure, social cognition, and social context. The findings revealed; first, at the level of textual structure, the speech is constructed around macrostructures of reconciliation and inclusivity, realized through rhetorical strategies such as the neutralization of in-group/out-group polarity, the use of family metaphors, euphemism, and presuppositions that affirm electoral legitimacy. Second, at the level of social cognition, the discourse represents post-election collective mentalities—such as political fatigue and aspirations for unity—while advancing a nationalist-populist ideology characterized by anti-elitist and religious elements. Third, at the level of social context, the speech operates as a hegemonic strategy to consolidate power, achieved through the appreciation of state institutions, symbolic reconciliation with opposition groups, and the projection of populist policies focused on public welfare. This study proved that language plays an important role Indonesian political discourse by demonstrating how linguistic resources are mobilized for strategic political purposes within an electoral democratic context.
