Abstract

Stunting is a condition where children aged 0-2 years have a height or length that is less than their age. The way to measure this condition is characterized by a height or length that is more than minus two standard deviations of the median of child growth standards from WHO. Stunting is currently still one of the nutritional problems in toddlers in Indonesia that needs to be addressed. This study aims to determine the risk factors that cause stunting such as LBW, Immunization, Infectious Diseases, Exclusive Breastfeeding, Maternal Occupation, Maternal Education and Maternal Knowledge about stunting in toddlers at the UPTD Ibrahim Adjie Health Center, Bandung City in 2024. Data collection was carried out using an interview method using a questionnaire, and nutritional status (H/U) was directly measured in toddlers aged 24-59 years with a sample of 126 respondents. Bivariate analysis used the Chi-Square Test and Fisher's Exact Test. The results showed that there was no relationship between LBW (sig. 0.560), Immunization (0.560), Infectious Diseases (sig. 0.554), and Maternal Education (sig. 1.000) with the incidence of stunting, while Exclusive Breastfeeding (sig. 0.048) and maternal knowledge about stunting (sig. 0.001) had a positive relationship with the incidence of stunting at Ibrahim Adjie Health Center, Bandung City in 2024. The conclusion of this study is that there are 2 factors that are significantly related, namely exclusive breastfeeding and maternal knowledge and 4 factors that are not significant, namely LBW, immunization, infectious diseases and maternal education. It is recommended for mothers who have toddlers to increase their insight into the incidence of stunting in order to prevent stunted child growth and development and provide exclusive breastfeeding.

Abstract

Oil palm (Elaeis guineensis Jacq) is a domesticated plant with promising industrial potential in domestic and international markets. This study aims to determine the effect of a 15-15-15 NPK fertilizer mixture and eggshell powder on the growth parameters of oil palm seedlings. This study used a non-factorial randomized block design (RAK) with 5 treatments and 5 replicates, resulting in 25 experimental units, with the following treatment sequence: P0: Control (without fertilizer) NPK 15-15-15 and eggshell flour, P1: NPK 15-15-15 fertilizer (2 g/polybag) + 50 g eggshell flour, P2: NPK 15-15-15 fertilizer (2.25 g/ polybag) + 50 g eggshell powder, P3: NPK 15-15-15 fertilizer (2.50 g/polybag) + 50 g eggshell powder, P4: NPK 15-15-15 fertilizer (2.75 g/polybag) + 50 g eggshell powder. The parameters observed were soil pH, number of leaf sheaths, plant height, and stem diameter. The results showed that the NPK 15-15-15 treatment combined with eggshell flour had a significant effect on stem diameter at 40 DAP but no significant effect on stem diameter growth at 50-60 DAP, on the number of leaf sheaths, on plant height, or on soil pH. The coefficient of variation obtained was below 25%.

Abstract

Plant Growth Regulators (PGRs) are organic compounds that are not classified as plant nutrients but are biologically active at low concentrations and can stimulate, inhibit, or modify plant growth and development. The objective of this community service program was to develop a fermentation technique for bamboo shoots into a PGR solution and to enhance farmers’ capacity through extension services and hands-on training. This program was implemented by lecturers and students of Politeknik Indonesia Venezuela in Cot Cut Village, Kutabaro Sub-district, Aceh Besar Regency. The activities included field observation and the fermentation of bamboo shoots to produce PGRs. The fermentation process successfully yielded a dark-colored PGR solution with a characteristic aroma. The local community of Cot Cut Village showed strong enthusiasm for this program because it used natural materials that are inexpensive, readily available, and environmentally friendly. This activity demonstrates that bamboo shoots have significant potential as a source of natural PGRs and can serve as an innovative component of environmentally sustainable agriculture. Through this approach, bamboo shoots are expected to provide a simple yet impactful solution in supporting sustainable, locally based agricultural practices in Cot Cut Village, Kutabaro Sub-district, Aceh Besar Regency.

Abstract

Increasing age leads to physical, psychological, and social changes that affect the quality of life of the elderly, especially those suffering from chronic diseases such as Diabetes Mellitus (DM). The elderly are prone to cognitive function impairment, including decline in memory, concentration, and problem-solving abilities. Data from BPS (2023) show an increase in the elderly population, with the Special Region of Yogyakarta being the province with the highest proportion. A preliminary study at Sleman Primary Health Center indicated that 40% of the elderly experience mild to severe cognitive function impairment. To determine the relationship between cognitive function and quality of life among elderly patients in the Prolanis program at Sleman Primary Health Center, Yogyakarta. This study employed a quantitative research design using a cross-sectional approach. The total population was 476 respondents, with a sample of 83 respondents selected through purposive sampling. The study was conducted at Sleman Primary Health Center, Yogyakarta. The research instruments used were the MMSE questionnaire and the WHOQOL-BREF questionnaire. Bivariate analysis was performed using Kendall's Tau test. The majority of the elderly were aged 60–74 years (69.9%), female (75.9%), unemployed (49.4%), and had had DM for more than 5 years (44.6%). A total of 48.2% had moderate cognitive function, and 62.7% had moderate quality of life. The Kendall's Tau test showed a positive and significant relationship between cognitive function and quality of life (r = 0.301; p = 0.002). There is a positive and significant relationship between cognitive function and quality of life among the elderly. The better the cognitive ability of the elderly, the higher their perceived quality of life.
