Abstract

This study examines the phenomenon of religious and scientific conflicts related to vaccination in the dynamics of handling Covid-19. There are two research problems in this study; How is the religion-science conflict related to the Covid-19 vaccine? How to mediate religion-science conflict in Covid-19 vaccination, from the perspective of Ian G. Barbour? Methodologically, this study uses qualitative research methods. There are two types of data in this study, namely primary data sourced from both print and online media in the period January 2020 to December 2022, and secondary data obtained from library sources. Using Ian G. Barbour's theory of the religion-science relationship, this study finds two important findings; First, one of the crucial problems in the midst of the efforts of many countries to fight the Covid-19 pandemic is the existence of conflict or friction between religious circles and scientists. The friction arose along with the differences in their mindset regarding the prevention and control of Covid-19, in this case the Covid-19 vaccination. In response to this polemic or conflict, it is necessary to have a breakthrough at the level of thought, namely by developing the idea of ​​a middle way, through which sages and clergy can meet, make peace, and compromise with each other. Second, in Iai G. Barbour's perspective, the relationship between religion and science can be mapped into four patterns, namely patterns of conflict, independence, dialogue, and finally the pattern of integration. Of these four patterns, the most ideal approach as a middle ground for religious and scientific conflicts related to Covid-19 vaccination is integration.

Abstract

Studi ini berjudul, Strategi Pembangunan Pariwisata Daerah Pamekasan Berkelanjutan melalui Konsep Ekowisata Berbasis Kearifan Lokal. Terdapat tiga isu utama yang akan dibahas dalam kajian ini, yakni konsep ekowisata, pembangunan berkelanjutan, dan konsep kearifan lokal. Ketiga isu tersebut akan dijabarkan melalui dua pertanyaan penelitian, apa yang dimaksud dengan konsep pariwisata berkelanjutan, ekowisata, dan kearifan lokal? Bagaimana membangun pariwisata Pamekasan berkelanjutan melalui konsep ekowisata berbasis kearifan lokal? Studi ini merupakan studi kualitatif dengan pendekatan kepustakaan. Teori yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah adalah teori pembangunan kawasan daerah dari Richard Florida. Secara teoritis, studi ini memiliki sumbangsih besar dalam hal memperkaya khazanah keilmuan sosial, khususnya yang bersentuhan dengan isu-isu pembangunan. Sedangkan secara praktik, studi ini memiliki sumbangsih besar dalam menawarkan gagasan solutif, khusunya berkenaan dengan pembangunan pariwisata daerah Pamekasan. Secara umum, temuan besar studi ini memuat penjelasan deskriptif perihal keanekaragaman alam–sosial di Pamekasan, serta analisa mendalam tentang peran dan fungsi  strategis kearifan lokal Pamekasan dalam mewujudkan pembangunan ekowisata daerah yang berkelanjutan.

Abstract

Madura society are identical with people who have religiosity, one form of their reigiosity is in the strong influence of religious symbols. In this context, religious groups such as the Madura ulama alliance (AUMA), is a contemporary Islamic movement that has significant influence, not only in terms of social religion, but also social politics. The study entitled, Neo Sufism and the Contemporary Social-Political Religion Movement in Madura. Some crucial issues discussed are; the concept of neo sufism from Fazlur Rahman, and Islamic religious-political social movements in Madura (AUMA). The two main issues above are then elaborated in two research questions; 1) What is the definition of neo sufism 2) How does the existence of AUMA, as a contemporary Islamic neo-Sufism movement, play a strategic role and function in the social dynamics of the religious-political community of Madura? This study is a field study based on qualitative research. The data in this paper were obtained through two sources, namely primary and secondary. he written findings contain an explanation of the existence of AUMA as a contemporary neo Sufism movement on Madura; the strategic role of AUMA's neo sufism in the social dynamics of the Madurese religious-political community. Generally, , this paper has made a major contribution in terms of explaining the dynamics and social discourse of the religious-political community of Madura, and the strategic role and function of the neo sufism religious group (AUMA) in the socio-political context of the local community

Abstract

Since the 1998 reform, Indonesia's general election system (PEMILU) has undergone significant changes, from what was originally a representative system to direct elections, from which previously were held separately to now take place simultaneously. However, in the midst of these improvement efforts, it must be admitted that the building of the current election system still leaves problems. One of them is the problem of organizing elections, especially those related to campaign financing regulations. This study is a critical study of the existence of the Indonesian general election, especially with regard to the regulation of election campaign funds. There are two main issues in this study; 1) Collective campaign funds; 2) Elections with an open proportional system. To make this study focused, these two main issues are then elaborated into two major research questions, what is meant by regulation of collective campaign funds based on open proportional elections? What are its strategic roles and functions in an effort to create transparent and fair elections? This study is a qualitative study with library techniques. The entire data of this writing is sourced from secondary data in the form of library data. In general, the findings of this study contain a conceptual-theoretical explanation of the regulation of collective campaign funds based on open proportional elections, a description as well as an in-depth analysis of the problems of regulation of Indonesian election campaign funds, especially after the implementation of the 2019 simultaneous elections.

Abstract

Abstract: This study examines the strengthening of religious moderation in Madura through religious social networks of pesantren. There are two research questions discussed in this study, how are the dynamics of religious moderation in Madura? How to strengthen religious moderation in Madura through pesantren religious social networks? This study is a literature review that uses qualitative research. Sources and types of data in this study are secondary data, especially data from the literature. By analyzing based on the perspective of social networking theory from John Arundel Barnes, this study finds that in the culture of the Madurese community, pesantren is an institution of da'wah and religious education that has a major role and influence in shaping the religious reality of the community. The magnitude of the influence of the pesantren is clearly reflected in the Islamic patterns and behavior of the Madurese community who always make the pesantren a religious reference, both in thought and ritual. In terms of strengthening religious moderation in Madura, pesantren has a strategic role and function. Apart from having a high social position, Islamic boarding schools also have quite strong tools and social capital. The social capital is in their religious social network which is widespread throughout the Madura area. The concept of social networking here refers to the main elements in the religious structure of pesantren. The main elements include Kiai, santri, and finally Islamic organizations, in this case, the Nahdatul Ulama (NU) organization.

Abstract

The negative public perception of the vaccination is one of the most important concerns that occur while dealing with Covid-19. This viewpoint is based on the belief that vaccinations include ingredients that are prohibited by religion making their usage not halal. This study investigates the benefits of vaccinations in the Covid-19 preventive measures from a theological and scientific standpoint. This study employs qualitative research methods. Primary and secondary data were gathered from a variety of sources, including literature, information media, and statistics data. This study discovered several findings applying the maqashid al-syari'ah theory as an analytical tool: First, vaccines are medical instruments that aim to strengthen the immune system so that it can increase immunity and reduce the risk of Covid-19 transmission; Second, from the standpoint of social theology, the role of vaccines in protecting and preventing the body from transmitting Covid-19 is relevant to the dimensions of benefit found in maqashid al-syari'ah, one of which is the protection of the soul or self (hifzu al-Nafs); Third, the religious perspective plays a role in elucidating the reasons for the halal status of the Covid-19 vaccine from the standpoint of its value in social theology. In terms of science's viewpoint, it serves as a tool in articulating how the notion of self-preservation (hifzu al-Nafs) should be implemented through medical goods such as a vaccine.

Abstract

This study examines the resistance behavior of conservative Islamic organizations to regional tourism development in Madura, especially entertainment-based tourism. There are three research questions in this study: how is the reality of conservative Islamic organizations in Madura to the religious dynamics of the local community? How is the existence of conservative Islamic organizations to the dynamics of tourism development in Madura? How is the resistance of conservative Islamic organizations towards tourism development in Madura? Qualitative data were collected through observation, interview, and literatures study. The findings show: First, the conservativism values of Islamic organizations in Madura were born and spread widely from local traditions and religions; Second, the tradition of conservatism of Islamic organizations in Madura seen in several Islamic organizations, mainly right-wing Islamic organizations such as AUMA, FKM, and GUIP; Third, the conservatism of Islamic organizations in Madura is related to their resistant behavior towards tourism development in Madura, which reflect in their thinking and religious paradigms which tend to be traditionalist, puritanical, and reactionary. They use anarchism approaches that lead to violence, for instance burning the Bukit Bintang tourist site in Pamekasan Regency. Studi ini mengkaji perilaku resisten Ormas Islam konservatif terhadap pembangunan pariwisata daerah di Madura, khususnya pariwisata berbasis hiburan. Terdapat tiga pertanyaan penelitian pada studi ini: bagaimana realitas Ormas Islam konservatif di Madura dalam dinamika keagamaan masyarakat setempat? Bagaimana eksistensi Ormas Islam konservatif dalam dinamika pembangunan pariwisata di Madura? Bagaimana resistensi Ormas Islam konservatif terhadap pembangunan pariwisata di Madura? Kualitatif data dikumpulkan melalui observasi, wawancara, dan studi kepustakaan. Temuan studi ini menunjukan: Pertama, nilai-nilai konservatisme Ormas Islam di Madura lahir dan menyebar luas dari tradisi dan keagamaan lokal; Kedua, tradisi konservatisme Ormas Islam di Madura dapat ditemukan di sejumlah Ormas Islam, terutama Ormas Islam yang secara ideologi berhaluan kanan seperti AUMA, FKM, dan GUIP; Ketiga, konservatisme Ormas Islam di Madura terkait perilaku resisten mereka terhadap pembangunan pariwisata di Madura, tergambar pada paradigma berpikir dan keagamaan mereka yang cenderung tradisionalis, puritan, dan reaksioner. Mereka menggunakan pendekatan anarkisme sehingga berujung pada tindak kekerasan seperti pada kasus pembakaran lokasi wisata Bukit Bintang di Kabupaten Pamekasan.

Abstract

Social restrictions during the pandemic have caused Islamic authorities in Indonesia to create a number of adaptations of religious rituals. Worship and socio-religious activities that were previously carried out offline (traditionally) have 'moved' to digital platforms. Through a descriptive qualitative research approach with virtual data collection techniques on the internet and social media, this article aims to discuss the phenomenon of disruption of Islamic ritual practices in Indonesia during the pandemic. The results show that this disruption phenomenon has led to a number of debates about the validity and reduction of the sacredness of certain worship practices in Islam. However, on the other hand, the process of disrupting religious ritual facilities has also become a new innovation for Islamic organizations such as NU and Muhammadiyah to organize certain worship practices that require a larger mass and cross regions using digital platforms, for example, the practice of praying together (istighosah), dhikr together (tahlilan), and religious lectures.Pembatasan sosial di masa pandemi menyebabkan otoritas Islam di Indonesia melakukan sejumlah adaptasi ritual keagamaan. Kegiatan ibadah dan sosial-agama yang sebelumnya dilaksanakan secara offline (tradisional) telah ‘berpindah’ ke platform digital. Melalui pendekatan penelitian kualitatif deskriptif dengan teknik pengumpulan data virtual di internet dan sosial media, artikel ini bermaksud untuk membahas fenomena disrupsi religiusitas Islam di Indonesia di masa pandemi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa fenomena disrupsi ini telah memunculkan sejumlah perdebatan tentang keabsahan dan reduksi sakralitas praktik ibadah tertentu dalam Islam. Namun demikian, di sisi lain proses disrupsi sarana ritual keagamaan ini juga telah menjadi inovasi baru bagi organisasi Islam seperti NU dan Muhammadiyah untuk penyelenggaraan praktik ibadah tertentu yang memerlukan massa lebih besar dan lintas daerah. Seperti misalnya praktik doa bersama (istighosah), dzikir bersama (tahlilan), dan ceramah-ceramah agama.

Abstract

The massive use of social media has led to the increasing phenomenon of Islamic populism among netizens. This phenomenon is marked by the presence of contemporary religious actors. One of them is Felix Siauw. This paper aims to analyze the phenomenon of cyberspace and Islamic populism among netizens, especially on Felix Siauw's Instagram (IG) account. This study used a qualitative approach in the form of netnography, through tracing the IG Felix Siaw account. The collected data then being analyzed using Jurgen Habermas's theory of public space. The results reveal that the role and influence of the presence of contemporary religious actors, such as Felix Siauw, can be illustrated in three ways: first, the use of anti-establishment narratives; second, the use of anti-authoritarianism narratives; third, the invitation to return to the basic values of Islam (Al-Qur'an and Hadith) as a guidance for a whole life of a muslim, including his or her life as a citizen. To maximize his populist agenda, IG Felix Siauw's account uses populist themes that are close to the daily lives of netizens, such as the Indonesian without Dating Movement, Youth Hijrah, Indonesia Bertauhid, and the Khaffah Islamic Movement.Masifnya penggunaan sosial media memunculkan fenomena populisme Islam di kalangan netizen. Fenomena ini ditandai oleh kehadiran aktor-aktor agama kekinian, salah satunya adalah Felix Siauw. Tulisan ini bertujuan menganalisis fenomena cyberspace dan populisme Islam di kalangan netizen, khususnya pada akun Instagram (IG) Felix Siauw. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif berupa netnografi, melalui penelusuran akun IG Felix Siaw. Data kemudian dianalisis menggunakan teori Ruang Publik Jurgen Habermas. Hasil penelitian mengungkapkan bahwa peran dan pengaruh kehadiran aktor agama kekinian seperti Felix Siauw di kalangan netizen muslim tergambar dalam tiga hal, yaitu: pertama, penggunaan narasi antikemapanan; kedua, penggunaan narasi anti-oritarianisme; ketiga, ajakan kembali ke nilai-nilai dasar agama (Al-Qur'an dan Hadist) sebagai pegangan hidup secara menyeluruh, bahkan dalam berbangsa dan bernegara sekalipun. Untuk memaksimalkan agenda populismenya tersebut, akun IG Felix Siauw mempergunakan tema-tema populis yang dikenal dekat dengan kehidupan netizen sehari-hari, seperti Gerakan Indonesia Tanpa Pacaran, Pemuda Hijrah, Indonesia Bertauhid, Gerakan Islam Khaffah dan lain sebagainya.

Abstract

One of phenomena in the handle of Covid pandemic is the polarization of religionists and scientists. This polarization occurs because the difference of paradigms from them in understanding about COVID-19. The religionists, who leans towards orthodoxy and conservatism, emphasize literal dogmatic approach, whereas the scientists emphasize on scientific approach with the principle of positivistic-materialism. This study discusses the paradigm of moderatism in COVID-19 prevention from integration of science and religion perspective. By using qualitive research and in-depth analysis based on John F. Haugt’s integration theory, this study found the idea of integration between science and religion as a paradigm of moderatism in COVID-19 prevention. This is an epistemological effort in order to create dialogical relationship between science and religion. It means that both fulfill and reinforce each other thereby augmenting the agenda of COVID-19 prevention. There is a need for epistemological transformation that both sides need to undergo to achieve the agenda. Religion, which has been embodied by a literal dogmatic perspective, needs to display dynamic and contextual. So, it can compromise with the reality especially in scientific approach. In the other hands, science which has followed positivistic-materialism principles. It should not be conducted free from all values but it should contain many values, especially spiritual and theistic. In contemporary religious discourse, the integration of science and religion in the context of COVID-19 prevention is a form of moderatism in responding the COVID-19 pandemic situation in terms of thinking, attitude, or behavior.
