Abstract

This study aims to extract the inclusive soteriological formulation of Aswaja from the text Jauharah al-Tawhid and the tradition of syarh, assess its implications for the design of intra-Islamic dialogue, and develop operational tools in the form of SOPs, checklists, rubrics, and facilitation protocols that are publicly accountable. The study uses a two-track qualitative approach. The text track is carried out through a close hermeneutic reading of ibarat-syarh by mapping usul/furu and the status of dalil (qat’i/zanni). The application track involves interviews and FGDs with facilitators, kiai, and community activists. Data were analyzed using Reflexive Thematic Analysis, supplemented by source-method-researcher triangulation, member-checking, audit trail, and a Delphi-based consensus test. The research findings formulate five principles of Aswaja's inclusive soteriology: firmness in proposals (qathi), openness in furu (zanni), rejection of takfir (contempt) against sinners, tawaqquf (religious tolerance) in the face of inconclusive evidence, and recognition of the udhr bil-jahl (the evil-doer) and ahl al-fatrah (the people of fatrah) as soteriological variables. These principles are mapped into dialogue SOPs in the form of issue classification, freezing of khilafiyyat (the wrong-doer), reason-giving procedures, tawaqquf (the wrong-doer), restorative language, the udzr bil-jahl protocol, and official clarification channels. The findings can be applied in the Religious Moderation program, the framework for Islamic intra-faith dialogue, the design of community-based conflict prevention policies, curriculum development in Islamic universities, and mediator training. These results are useful for Islamic boarding schools (pesantren), government institutions, interfaith organizations, and community facilitators in promoting tolerance and reducing sectarian tensions. This research introduces a two-track Delphi-based model that weaves classical texts into a community policy framework, as an example of "hermeneutics that yields policy." Its contribution lies in combining normative theology with practical instruments of facilitation, offering transferable design principles for building tolerance and religious dialogue in a structured manner.

Abstract

Purpose: This study investigates the digital strategies employed by Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) and Muhammadiyah, two of Indonesia's largest moderate Islamic organisations, in countering radicalism on social media. The research aims to evaluate the effectiveness of these strategies in reaching and influencing the younger generation, particularly in the context of growing radical content online. Methodology: A qualitative approach was utilised, involving direct observation of social media content, in-depth interviews with key figures from NU and Muhammadiyah, and a review of relevant literature. The study also included interviews with Generation Z students to gauge their responses to the digital strategies of these organisations. Findings: The study found that NU's innovative approach, particularly through creative social media campaigns like "Merah Putih vs. Radikalisme" on YouTube, has been more effective in capturing broad public attention and reinforcing moderate Islamic narratives. In contrast, Muhammadiyah's more relaxed approach, while meaningful, has not achieved the same level of impact among younger audiences. However, Muhammadiyah's digital applications like SalamMu and Edumu contribute significantly to promoting moderate Islam and countering radical influences. Research Implications: The findings underscore the importance of continuous innovation in digital strategies for religious organisations to maintain relevance and effectiveness in combating radicalism. The study suggests that both NU and Muhammadiyah need to refine their approaches further to better engage with the younger generation, who are more susceptible to radical ideologies online. Originality/Value: This research contributes to the understanding of the intersection between religion and digital technology in a predominantly Muslim society. It provides unique insights into how moderate Islamic organisations can leverage social media to counter radicalism and foster a culture of tolerance and inclusivity in the digital age. The study also highlights the potential and limitations of current strategies, offering a foundation for future research and policy development in digital counter-radicalism efforts.

Abstract

This study examines how religious resources are mobilized to strengthen social solidarity in Bumi Ratu Village, South Rawajitu District, Tulang Bawang Regency, Lampung, Indonesia. In the context of rural communities that still consider religion as a moral foundation and social guideline, religious values play a central role in regulating community interaction patterns. The theoretical approach used is Resource Mobilization Theory (RMT), which views collective action not as a spontaneous response, but as the result of conscious and organized management of moral, material, human, and symbolic resources. The study was conducted through a qualitative approach with data collection techniques in the form of in-depth interviews, participant observation, and documentation. Three informants were selected purposively: a village head, a religious figure, and a representative of the general public. The results show that religious values, religious figures, mosques, and social networks are the main resources mobilized to build social solidarity. Religious figures act as moral motivators who interpret solidarity as part of the practice of religious teachings, while village leadership utilizes religious legitimacy to mobilize residents in collective activities. The mobilization process takes place through the mechanisms of da'wah, deliberation, organizing mosque-based activities, and reinterpreting social activities as worship. This research confirms that religion is not merely a source of spiritual doctrine, but rather a strategic instrument in building social solidarity at the community level.
