Abstract

Abstract. The development of technology in the current era is very rapid and has an impact on increasing electrical energy which is a major need for large industries and households. One of the electrical energy delivery equipment in the transmission system is a PMT or High Connection Breaker. This PMT is a mechanical equipment equipped with sulfur hexafluoride (SF6) gas arc extinguishing media. The process of extinguishing the arc occurs due to contact due to work from the movement that causes the contact to cause an arc. This decrease in SF6 gas pressure greatly affects reliability when operating, because the arc extinguishing process is not perfect. This is determined by the age of the equipment and the number of operating breakers. The results showed that SF6 gas which is in accordance with the standard normal pressure of 6.4 bar with an ambient temperature of 34°C can minimize the occurrence of equipment damage because it is able to approach arc pressure with SF6 gas velocity of 58 cm/s.kA, with a contact gap of 3,61224. cm, while the PMT cannot be operated at a pressure of 5.2 bar with an ambient temperature of 34°C because the speed of SF6 gas is 82 cm/s.kA with a contact gap of 5.10696. It is concluded that the higher the pressure affects the speed and distance when extinguishing the arc. several factors that affect the decrease in SF6 gas pressure using the FMEA method based on the highest value of the Risk Priority Number (RPN) of 810. Keywords: fire arc, Breakdown, Voltage breaker, SF6 . gas pressure

Abstract

The potential of solar energy in Indonesia is quite large as a renewable energy source, usually called solar panels or photovoltaic (PV) technology as a device capable of converting solar radiation into electrical energy. When solar panels operate, only about 15% of solar radiation is converted into electrical energy, while the rest is converted into heat. The intensity of solar radiation and the temperature of the surrounding air affect the voltage and current produced by solar cells. This condition requires a device that can regulate the temperature state of the solar panel. This study was conducted to overcome the heat problem in solar panels through optimizing the thermal properties of the cooling fluid by adding nano-sized SEM/EDS-tested particles to the W/EG base fluid, which is commonly called nanofluids, then making serpentine channels as a heat exchanger was also carried out. The experimental test process was carried out with a flow rate variation of 1 to 3 LPM and the inlet temperature was kept at 35˚C. The results showed that the highest cooling fluid flow rate was the most optimum condition. The Reynolds number shows that the heat transfer coefficient increases by 1011.72 W/m◦K, 1321.72 W/m◦K, and 2070.39 W/m◦K, respectively. The Nusselt number tends to increase as the Reynolds number of the nanofluid increases. An increase in Nusselt number indicates an increase in heat transfer coefficient, while Reynolds number indicates laminar flow of the coolant. Similarly, the pressure drop increases with increasing flow rate.

Abstract

The fossil fuel crisis in Indonesia, which contributes 85% of the national energy mix, has driven the need to utilize renewable energy sources, one of which is exhaust wind as industrial waste energy that has high speed (5-7 m/s) and good flow continuity. This study developed a vertical Savonius turbine with variations in exhaust-turbine distance (20, 30, 40 cm) and measured wind speed (5.3, 6, 6.4 m/s) to optimize the utilization of this energy. The results showed that the 20 cm configuration produced the best performance with a maximum power of 5.98 watts at a speed of 6.4 m/s and a Coefficient Performance (CP) of 0.16, which is 31% more efficient than a distance of 40 cm, proving the potential of exhaust wind as a renewable energy solution that is applicable in industry with a payback period of less than 3 years and the potential for reducing the load on the electricity network by up to 15%.

Abstract

Mechanical seals in industrial pumps play a critical role in preventing heat transfer fluid leakage, especially under high-temperature operating conditions. A key component of this system is the seal head, which functions as a compression mechanism through a spring to maintain contact between sealing surfaces. However, the spring's performance can deteriorate due to the accumulation of deposits resulting from prolonged exposure to elevated temperatures, operating pressure, and fluid degradation—ultimately leading to seal failure and fluid leakage. This study aims to investigate the thermal stability of the reservoir fluid Therminol 66 (TM-66) and its impact on seal performance under long-term thermal exposure. The methodology includes direct observation of failed seals, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) at temperatures of 75, 150, 250, and 350 °C for durations of 3, 6, and 12 hours, and chemical characterization using Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR). Additionally, thermal degradation behavior was assessed through activation energy estimation based on weight loss data obtained from TGA. FTIR results revealed that phenylcyclohexane is the dominant compound in TM-66, with a relative intensity of 0.803119. The thermogravimetric data demonstrated that higher temperatures and longer exposure times significantly accelerated fluid evaporation and mass loss. The activation energy analysis confirmed that thermal degradation is more likely to occur under extended high-temperature conditions. These findings highlight the importance of maintaining reservoir fluid temperature below 75°C to minimize deposit buildup in the seal chamber and ensure the long-term reliability and efficiency of the mechanical seal system.

Abstract

A potential solution to mitigate exhaust emissions and air pollution is converting conventional motorcycles into electric ones. This study carried out the conversion of a gasoline-powered motorcycle to an electric motorcycle and analyzed changes in its dynamic characteristics through measurements of the center of gravity, suspension load distribution, and two-degree-of-freedom vibration response. The methodology involved determining the motorcycle’s center of gravity before and after conversion using the moment-of-force approach and conducting vibration analysis with a two-degree-of-freedom undamped model. Tests were performed in unloaded and loaded conditions with a 70 kg passenger to evaluate the effect of additional mass on suspension performance. Before conversion, the motorcycle’s center of gravity was located at x = 526 mm and y = 147 mm, shifting to x = 577 mm and y = 133 mm after conversion. With a passenger, the center of gravity moved from x = 754 mm and y = 704 mm to x = 762 mm and y = 687 mm after conversion. The total load decreased from 267 kg (74.8 kg front and 192.2 kg rear) to 239.6 kg (66.9 kg front and 172.7 kg rear). The vibration analysis revealed that the main natural frequency slightly increased from ω₁ = 19.507 rad/s (≈3.10 cps) to ω₁ = 19.654 rad/s (≈3.12 cps), while the secondary frequency remained stable at ω₂ = 4.52 rad/s (≈0.71 cps). The amplitude ratio changed marginally from (A/B) = 6.028 m/rad to 6.088 m/rad. Overall, the conversion does not induce significant additional vibration, indicating that the structural dynamics remain stable. However, fine-tuning of battery placement and suspension stiffness is recommended to optimize stability and ride comfort.
