Abstract

This article examines the practice of Ta'zir, a form of discretionary punishment, within the context of Islamic boarding schools. Ta'zir holds a significant place in Islamic jurisprudence, allowing authorities to determine penalties for offenses not explicitly addressed in religious texts. However, the application of Ta'zir has raised concerns, particularly in the context of Islamic boarding schools, where traditional practices intersect with modern notions of human rights. Drawing upon a multi-disciplinary approach, this study delves into the historical, cultural, and religious aspects of Ta'zir, elucidating its evolution from its inception to its current manifestations within Islamic boarding schools. By analyzing primary sources, legal texts, and case studies, the article underscores the diverse interpretations of Ta'zir and its malleability in adapting to contemporary circumstances. Furthermore, the article critically evaluates the potential conflicts between the traditional practice of Ta'zir and international human rights standards. It examines instances where Ta'zir punishments might be perceived as infringing upon human dignity, bodily integrity, and freedom from cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment. The study also explores the role of Islamic boarding schools in shaping and perpetuating these practices, considering the interplay between religious education, discipline, and the protection of children's rights. The findings of this research reveal a complex landscape where tradition clashes with modern sensibilities. The article advocates for a nuanced dialogue between religious scholars, educators, and human rights advocates to strike a balance between preserving cultural heritage and upholding universally recognized human rights. It highlights the importance of reinterpretation and contextualization of Ta'zir in line with the principles of justice, mercy, and human dignity as emphasized within Islamic teachings. In conclusion, this article contributes to the ongoing discourse on the compatibility of traditional Islamic practices with contemporary human rights frameworks. It calls for a thoughtful reevaluation of Ta'zir within Islamic boarding schools, promoting an inclusive approach that safeguards both religious heritage and fundamental human rights.

This study analyzes the implementation of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) values in the moral development of grade X students at SMA 30 Juz Al Qur’an Serang Banten to overcome moral degradation among students. Using a qualitative approach with in-depth interview techniques, participatory observation, and documentation, the data were analyzed following the Miles and Huberman model. The results show the implementation of Islamic value-based character education requires a holistic approach through the integration of Curriculum 2013 with Core Competencies (KI) 1 and KI 2. Five methods of value cultivation proved effective: contextual role modeling, value-based project-based learning, integrated spiritual habituation, experience-based reflective dialogue, and individualized spiritual counseling. These methods follow the stages of value internalization from knowing, feeling, to acting. The successful cultivation of PAI values requires tripartite collaboration between school, family, and community, with the role of teachers as role models according to the principle of “ing ngarso sung tulodo”. The research confirmed significant changes in student behavior in consistency of worship, honesty, discipline, and social care. Effective Islamic religious education is not only transferring cognitive knowledge, but forming character through the appreciation and practice of noble Islamic values.

Abstract

This study examines fundamental concepts and implementation of library research methodology in educational contexts through systematic methodological review. Utilizing frameworks from Cooper, Hedges, and Valentine, the research analyzes theoretical foundations, systematic approaches, and practical applications of literature review methodology in education. Analysis reveals that library research has evolved from preliminary activity into sophisticated research methodology built upon constructivist epistemology and social constructivist frameworks. Key findings demonstrate three critical dimensions: robust theoretical foundations integrating multiple philosophical perspectives, systematic methodological frameworks ensuring comprehensiveness and rigor, and practical implementation strategies addressing complex educational research questions. The study identifies essential components including systematic search strategies, quality assessment procedures, technology integration, and collaborative approaches. Results indicate that effective implementation requires careful planning, strategic decision-making, and quality assurance procedures. This methodology enables educational researchers to bridge theory-practice gaps, inform evidence-based decision making, and advance educational knowledge systematically
