Abstract

Abstract

After the 2024 Election, the emergence of the hashtag #IndonesiaGelap on social media has become a symbol of public unrest regarding the direction of national leadership. This wave of criticism reflects a moral crisis and loss of public trust in the practice of power that is considered to deviate from basic values such as justice, integrity, and trust. This phenomenon indicates a degradation of ethics in politics and government. This article aims to examine this phenomenon through an ethical philosophy approach, using the framework of Aristotle and Immanuel Kant's thinking. The research method used is qualitative-critical with interpretive-reflective analysis techniques on library data and media discourse. The results of the study show that in the context of Aristotle, Indonesian leadership lacks aretê (moral virtue) and deviates from telos (moral purpose) in the form of common welfare. Meanwhile, from Kant's perspective, the leader's actions fail to fulfill the categorical imperative principle, because they are based more on the desire for power than on universal moral principles. The conclusion of this study emphasizes the need to renew ethical values in the practice of national leadership. Restoring the legitimacy of power is not enough only through structural reform, but also through the revitalization of public ethics and moral partisanship towards the people. This research is expected to contribute to building a more ethical, democratic, and public interest-oriented leadership model

Abstract

Abstract This research begins with the issue of the representation of beauty, which is often associated with the practice of violence against women. In Eka Kurniawan's novel Cantik Itu Luka, beauty is not positioned as something neutral, but rather presents as a discourse that normalizes women's bodies while simultaneously opening up opportunities for subjugation and violence. Based on these problems, this study aims to uncover how the discourse of beauty is constructed in the text, how this construction is related to the practice of violence, and how the female body is represented as a locus of power and a space of resistance. This research uses a qualitative-descriptive method with a literary discourse analysis approach. The research data consists of narrative excerpts, character descriptions, and events in the novel, which are analyzed through Michel Foucault's theoretical framework, specifically the concepts of power-knowledge, discourse, and the body. The results show that beauty functions as a mechanism of power that disciplines women's bodies, trapping them in colonial and patriarchal domination, and giving rise to various forms of physical and symbolic violence. However, the novel also presents a representation of resistance through characters who refuse to submit to the dominant discourse of beauty. The conclusion of this study confirms that Cantik Itu Luka reflects the power relations over women's bodies, which remain relevant to contemporary phenomena related to beauty standards, gender-based violence, and women's resistance.

Abstract

Debates over the nature of revelation (wahy) in Islam have long occupied a central place in theological and hermeneutical inquiry. Classical Islamic theology generally understands revelation as a transcendent and ahistorical divine communication, thereby positioning the Prophet Muhammad as a passive recipient of God's message. Although this paradigm has been effective in preserving the sacred character of revelation, it has significant limitations when confronted with contemporary questions concerning interpretive plurality, the reformulation of Islamic law, and the demands of modern human values. This article critically examines Abdolkarim Soroush's conception of revelation as the Prophet's religious experience articulated through historical and human mediation. Using a qualitative, library-based method and a philosophical-hermeneutical approach, the study explores the epistemological and theological implications of Soroush's theory. The findings show that the distinction between religion and religious knowledge, as well as between the essential and accidental elements of religion, provides a philosophical foundation for contextual and dynamic readings of the Qur'an. At the same time, the article identifies major ontological and theological challenges in Soroush's framework, particularly with regard to the status of revelation and the authority of prophethood. Soroush's thought is therefore best understood not as a replacement for classical theology, but as an epistemological corrective that enriches contemporary Islamic theological discourse.

Abstract

This article examines the humanitarian thought of Abdurrahman Wahid (Gus Dur) and Martin Luther King Jr. through a comparative analysis grounded in religious ethics, peacebuilding, and social justice. Both figures are widely recognized as religious leaders who translated faith-based commitments into concrete responses to injustice, yet they operated within distinct sociopolitical contexts and adopted different strategic approaches. This study employs qualitative library research and comparative content analysis to examine three analytical dimensions: theological foundations, core humanitarian principles, and the contexts in which those principles were implemented. The findings show that Gus Dur and King share a fundamental ethical convergence in treating religion as a public moral resource for defending human dignity, equality, and justice, as well as in rejecting violence as a legitimate means of social change. Gus Dur articulated humanitarian commitments through Islamic concepts such as rahmatan lil ‘alamin and al-maqasid al-shari‘ah, emphasizing pluralism, dialogue, and institutional reform within a multi-religious society. King grounded his humanitarian vision in Christian theology, particularly Imago Dei and agape, and advanced disciplined nonviolent action as a moral and strategic response to racial segregation and structural injustice. The analysis also reveals a significant divergence in operational strategy. Gus Dur primarily pursued reform through engagement with political and religious institutions, while King mobilized mass participation and moral pressure from outside the state. Read together, their approaches offer a complementary framework for contemporary humanitarian practice that links civic resistance with institutional responsibility. The study contributes to scholarship on religion-based peacebuilding by demonstrating how shared ethical commitments can generate different strategies shaped by political opportunity, social structure, and conflict configuration.

Abstract

Abstract

Maladaptive perfectionism intensifies anxiety by imposing rigid internal standards, amplifying fear of failure, and making self-worth contingent upon achievement. This study examines the functional distinction between sakinah and tuma'ninah in the Qur'an as two Qur'anic modes of inner serenity and reconstructs their conceptual relevance for responding to anxiety generated by maladaptive perfectionism. Employing a qualitative library-based design, the study applies the thematic exegetical method (tafsir mawdu'i) and analyzes selected Qur'anic verses through classical and contemporary exegetical works. The findings are then mapped through perfectionism theory as an analytical lens. The study demonstrates that sakinah denotes situational tranquility that stabilizes the inner self in moments of acute emotional pressure, whereas tuma'ninah signifies an enduring and internalized tranquility grounded in faith, dhikr, and acceptance of divine decree. In the context of maladaptive perfectionism, sakinah mitigates the immediate surge of anxiety caused by failure, while tuma'ninah reorients self-worth from achievement-based validation toward the meaning of servitude (ubudiyyah). These findings generate a two-stage model of inner transformation: emotional stabilization followed by the reorientation of self-worth. This model offers a Qur'anic conceptual framework for interpreting the movement from maladaptive perfectionism toward a more adaptive and spiritually integrated form of striving.
